Even sleep deprivation is torture. I'm not necessarily against torture, but I hate how so many Americans circumvent what they're actually doing by referring to water boarding as "interrogation techniques etc." Darkness at Noon is a very good book (albeit fictitious, but written by someone who interviewed tortured Soviet prisoners) that shows a window into how even sleep deprivation can fit the description of torture.
