    The winter snow is dry

    The south caterpillar is crawling

Making his way towards the glow worm’s lamp.

  • ★Japanese imagine from this Haiku that

there is an ancient pond in the old Japanese style garden with extreme silence

and suddenly a frog jumps in that pond and break the silence for a while

then, after that ,silence come back again.

So, Japanese strongly feel wabi-sabi from this Haiku which is the most famous

    masterpiece in the world.

  • 閑さや

    岩にしみ入る

    蝉の声

    refrigerator.

  • snow falls gently

It falls on the ground slowly

    soft and beautiful

i dont think this is a good haiku but it is one that i made up so what do you think?

  • @blahbahcool9

Though it is beautiful poetry, it is poetry of the English.

I think that should make it a sentence to feel "soft and beautiful".

Two "falls" is slightly unnecessary, too

    I do it this way...

    舞い散る雪 Snow dances

    耳を澄ませば When I listen carefully

    微かな足音 A little footsteps

Sorry, my haiku and English is not so good.

  • @Fenrir1231 no it's ok, thanks for your opinion too, plus i don't think i'n that good at poetry.... you are way better

Un viejo~estanque (The ~ joins the vowels into one syllable)

    Una rana se tira

    Que buen sonido

    Wow, that sucks...

  • I agree.

an english haiku is in syllables. (5-7-5)

if spanish is the same, you really fail'd there. no offence.

    6-7-5

  • You know Haiku

    when you see poets

    counting sylables on fingers

  • great!

  • A tiny brown moth,

  • Thank you, frog.

  • a tiny forest glen

    men with the bulldozers came

    its a wood hair-cut

  • this is great

the poet never saw either the frog or the pond. he only heard the splash, and assumed the rest.

  • It's not 5-7-5 syllables, it's 5-7-5 'mora'...

So if you wrote it out in hiragana, there would be 5-7-5 kana.

  • 化けろ!

  • 序段

  • すばらしい

  • Haiku - A 3 line poem that has 5 syllables in the first, seven in the second, and 5 in the third. Usually about nature.

  • it needs to have a seasonal word, and ideally and elegant simplicity, among other things :)

  • A haiku poem is a form of japanese poetry written in 3 lines. The first line has 7 syllables. The second line has 5 and the third has 7. I think anyway. Correct me if wrong.

  • Almost. It is 5-7-5 :)

  • I know I'm responding late. Lol. But yeah, thanks for correcting me.

  • @iSoBoredMeIs It's actually morae not syllables, in japanese a syllable can have many morae. Tokyo (toukyou in roumaji) is 2 syllables but 5 morae. One mora is one vowel with an otopnal consonant before it, a consonant+y combination is an extra mora, a consonant at the end fo a syllable is an extra mora and a long vowel or diphthong is also an extra mora. So ryuu (dragon) has 3 mora.

  • I thaught it was 3 lines, the first having 5, next 7, then 5?

  • the poem realy makes you think.

  • dont understandddddddddddd

  • ばか かわず

    てのしげな です

    おと かわず

    stupid frog

    is gay

    frog sound

    lol,i sux xD

  • xD lol

  • so,quick questoin,so,for the syllables, does it mean in english syllabyiles,or japanese syllables ?,like a-na-ta-no which would be 4 ? or would it count in english ,which would only have one syllable ? you- i'm confused :\

  • Each sounded syllable counts as one. So a-na-ta-no would be four.

  • 韓国日本蒙古

  • Nice! It sounds good!

  • Thanks!

  • thanx for this there shoulbe all the haikus from basho on this format

  • Maybe one day... :)

  • I know a VERY little Harigana, but Yea I'm still practising x)

  • This is the first haiku i learn by heart, and there's an ancient word too! WOW!

  • This poem is like... too famous.

  • really? this is my first time seeing it. :likes the way the old word for frog was used:

Ever since I've started studying Japanese, I've wanted to work on Japanese poetry and songs! I write anyways, but I'd love to see how/if structures for Japanese poetry/songs are different than regular grammer structure.

  • sound is good for me too, no problemo :) good video as always.

  • Thanks. It is just my browser. Sometimes the cache does something weird.

  • yep the sound is fine, for me anyway :)

  • yay im first to comment!!
