  • Is the bride mad at the end because of the groom's lack of endowment or the auditors?

  • Why all the thumbs down? I thought it was funny and they definitely have a point.

  • @sleeko11

That's what I don't understand! People are treating same sex marriage ( and marriage in general) as if it isn't a contract, which it is...

  • How about the government just getting completely out of the "marriage" business? Matrimony is a religious dictum. There shouldn't be any recognition of any religious doctrine, what so ever. There shouldn't be tax regs that favor marriage or procreation. It's none of the states business, if I want to have a domestic relationship another adult (or 2,3..). It's contract law, if any.

  • All this gay and lesbian shit of them wanting to get married is just to shave it down the christens throat. If not true. Answer me this. If u are gay or lesbian. At what place do u want to get married? A nice fancy church? Where the people of that church don't agree with your point of view. So when they say they cant do it. Then you can run and look for a lawyer? Why? To shave your way of life down a Christians throat.....

  • You think christians are the only people with places of worship?

  • @Symos no.. satin has his places as well.

  • @handyman6042 What about Cotton and Leather? Do they also?

  • @Symos satan*

  • The Prop 8 doesn't concern only the matter of the equality in front of the marriage but by extension the civil rights for the minority groups and the right of a majority to legislate against a minority group while the legislative change doesn't concern them. It's unfair in greatUSA that's supposed to be a land of freedom, a model all around the worl!. While the homosexual marriage's already allowed in contries like Uruguay what do you really want? The entire world to think your contry is Dlayed?

  • America....what a truly bizarre country! How we Brits and other Europeans love the Atlantic Ocean...some moat it is and that's for sure!

  • u know i think being a bigot such as yourself is disgusting i think calling people perverts, people you don't even know, is disgusting wake up it's no longer 1923 it's 2009 bitch

  • Like I've always said, I married a person not a penis.

  • welcome to my world

  • Wow i thought people like you had died out, seriously if you actually believe the bull shit you spout. I honestly feel upset by this comment. Where does premature death come into it wheres your evidence, do you even know and homosexuals and homosexuality is not a disease you backwards man!

  • meoowcat4 - You need to understand and face the facts about the active sodomite lifestyle. Perhaps my comment will jolt you into opening your eyes and fleeing from the lifestyle that has been proven to lead to premature physical death. Check out the CDC if you don't believe my contention. God has given you the potential to be an overcomer, not a victim.

  • 1) I am not 'an active sodomite'

2)What your saying is god is going to punish me for being gay, what sort of benevolent god is that!

  • I'm sorry if i make any assumptions here but i'm going to anyway.

Thankyou Thank you so much for that!

You know what, you just made it my goal to stop people like you. The fight for equality isn't going to be won on youtube It needs to be taught. Taught to bigots and closemided people like you.

  • I mean what does it even matter to you if I have sex with men, why do you care what right do you have to call me a pervet, (and believe me you gave me the right to call you a bigot)

I mean gay people don't care about straight people, all we want is to be recognised a s equals!

Are you afraid of you to being active in our 'sin'

Are you afraid of your children getting corrupted by us.

Are you afraid of the the world burning because of peversion.

  • Homosexuality will have no real effect on your life sir.

So life there is no real reason for you to object to our rightsapart from you need to discriminate. So stay out ofit and remember that your God loves you!

    I am Alex Glass

    I am 16

    I live in the U.K

    I am Gay

and you just made it my life goal to fight for equality!

    Thankyou!

  • mytime i think your perverted for picking on people u don't even know

  • deacon i think your insane we are people like u who just love not lust but LOVE

  • Wow- and it actually passes. I can't believe Americans actually voted on human rights. Utterly remarkable.

  • this is so frickin stereotypical and not researched at all. it's based on simple rumor.

    wow.

  • im a lesbian, and my mom says not kiss my gf in front of 4 year old nephew because i might confuse him. Its funny how people think homosexuality spreads like a disease and it needs to be cured. Why should i be forced to like men when im not attracted to them? Why should anyone be told who they can love and who they cant. A democracy? a democracy doesnt remove peoples rights. So if CA voted to make blacks slaves again, it would be alright? because everyone voted for it..404 logic not found

  • okayyy esan, while we're at it, Since Old and infertile people cant procreate, lets stop them too =]

Lets leave all the children in adoption homes :) that'll teach the little brats won't it? =]

And learn to spell honey, "EVERYONE VOTED" not evryone votd.

And im all for upholding a scripture but dont shove the same damn scripture down my throat.

Prop 8 is bullshit. It shouldnt have passed.

  • Here here! :D

  • I agree that kids shouldn't be taught TO be gay, but they should be taught to be accepting of people like that. Look at what happens when they're not taught to accept others. Calling things gay and retarded has become mainstream and now that's almost all you hear out of teenagers' (and even some adults') mouths!

Many people also say "People don't want to recognize gay marriage." Did I take a vote on straight marriage? How would you feel if I didn't want to recognize straight marriage?

  • how could anyone possible be "taught to be gay"??????

  • Well, many people are saying that if we teach about gays in school, that it will turn the kids gay. It's just not possible; the kids will act upon what's in their genes.

  • you can not be taught to be gay just like you can not be taught to be straight, you are or your not, its just the way it is .. i cant teach somebody to be tall, or short, or black or white, but i can teach my kids to respect and treat everybody with love and compassion, treat everyone as they would like to be treated. that is the only way we will ever live in a better world.

  • Could you just please explain what exactly you're 'saving' marriage from? That's what I don't understand. Does the thought of two fags kissing in front of an officiate with a piece of paper seriously threaten the validity of your marriage? Are you afraid that somehow you're not going to be able to get married now? Or are you afraid that you wont be 'special' because for some reason your marriage wont mean as much?

    It doesn't make any sense.

  • Dude, it'll never make sense. Your questions are very valid and most certanly never be answered . As a married man myself, I'd like to share the institution with others, to share the joy I have. For some reason, its not meant to be....

  • The worst argument against a cause is not a good argument opposed to it, but a bad / weak argument for it. Because anyone who is undecided will then conclude that there are no good arguments for it.

If I wanted to contribute to Prop 8 without running the risk of being harrassed, I could just give a bunch of money to the Courage Campaign to run ads like this.

Meanwhile the opposition considering reasonable and unreasonable arguments. That's why you lost.

    Tekromatagi

    Think about it

  • Yes, because that makes sense. Get an education.

  • If I was a Californian I would have voted for prop 8, but I'll give you points for creativity!!

  • your bigotry, hatred towards others and language

    =

    stupidity

  • This video totally rocks! My favorite thing is that ass-backwards states in the Midwest and South have gay marriage because of this. They don't allow trans people to change their gender so when an XX guy starts to take on a more masculine appearance he can still legally marry another man. If a trans woman identifies as a lesbian, she's in the clear to marry a biological woman. Take that Gender Police!

  • notice how they didn't mention "gay marriage"

  • im sure it existed in 1780s. marriage was a private matter between two people in the 1700s. it wasnt till very recently that the state stuck its nose into peoples private affairs.

  • "I have found Christian dogma unintelligible. Early in life I absented myself from Christian assemblies."

The way to see by the faith is to shut the eye of reason

basically it means, christians dont use logic or reason. they simply use a book to do all of their thinking for them. THey persecuted people that used reason. Issac newton is one that was persecuted by the church.

My own quote, To teach a christian to accept new ideas is like trying to teach my puppy to multiply.

  • Wow jasmine you should be ashamed sterotyping an entire group of people like that based on the actions of a few.Your statment reminds me of antisemites who say that all jews are cheap, bitter, petty and hateful just because a few are.Disgusting.

  • the thing is plato is, its not just a few christians. The entire leaderhip of the vatican, cardinals, arch bishops, many of them are like what i said. a majority of christian followers are.

There are so many bigoted small thinking christians, they ruled entire nations with mindless dogma.

  • How do you know a majority of Christians are like what you describe? Entire nation? Isn't same sex marriage legal in many majority Christian nations in Europe? Being against gay marriage does not make you bigoted yet sterotyping people does.Liberal hypocrisy a'int it grand?

  • no but in some of the former christian countrys. I dont know how many actual practicing christians are left in the U.K. but its ironic that in the UK people have actually more freedom than they do in the USA that rebelled against the UK for freedom. how the tables have turned.

and being against gay marriage does make one a biggot. if two gays want to marry, its really just their business, no one elses. not mine, yours, the states. just their own

  • No. Marriage does not exist in a vaccum it is a social contract that is enforced by the state and therefore is by definition a public act. Therefore society and society alone has the right to define marriage in any way it see's fit.

  • its not a social contract. its a contract with Hashem. g-d defined marriage and the rabbi or priest or IMam performs it. its the churches business to perform it. i really think the state should butt out of religion and religion should butt out of the state. ONly in theocracy or facist dictatorships are the two entwined.

that is what really bothers me. I seee an increasing intwined in the state and chruch matters. we really dont want that because it will destroy our freedom

  • ? I am confused by your response so you think that marriage is a religious contract that the state should say out of? They how would you determine which marriages were legit and which were illegal if the state was not part of marriage? What about those who do not believe in g_d?

  • a priest or rabbi or an imam that has been approved be any of the religious orders administering the wedding.

should the state approve or perform a religious ceremony? doesn't that give the state some measure of power over religious matters?

  • Is it really just the marriage you have a problem with? You don't mind if gay people kiss and cuddle in public places but you do care if someone you've never met can call their partner of 12yrs "spouse"?

  • Yes because what two people do in there own home is there own business but when you try to redefine a social contract then it is everybody's business. They can call eachother whatever the hell they want just so long as they don't try to force the majority to recognize their union as marriages.

  • well we disagree but i think it is ok to force the majority to grand a minority their rights. The south had to be dragged kicking and screaming just to allow black kids to go to the same restrooms and schools. Some times, the majority is bigoted and WRONG so screw them.

redefine marriage. who gives a fuck if two fags marry. i dont. i dont know why its such a big dam issue but its pissing me off. I think its just bigotry.

  • LOL. Well sometime the minority is wrong so screw them too.Oh wait the people of Cali have already done that so great. If you rather to ruled by an elite maybe you should move to N.Korea or China.

  • If anybody wants to know why Prop 8 won here is your answer.

They take a very serious issue and make a mockery of the whole deal.

These kinds of ads embolden the Christians.

    We need better ads.

  • Prop 8 won

  • Oh, and also, I judge people by whats in their HEARTS, not between their LEGS. I'm not sorry that I believe in love, and the right to love.

  • To anyone that goes 'OHEMGEE GAY PEOPLE ARE BAD!! EVIL!!' shut the fuck up. I love jesus, and I'm pretty sure that he loves ME. God preaches love and forgiveness, and NO WHERE in the bible does it say 'Homosexuals are bad'. it doesn't. One person that was NOT GOD/JESUS said 'Marriage is between a man and a woman'. well, guess what? It's also between and man and a man and a woman and a woman! thank GOD! and to anyone thats going to say (and I know someone will say it) I DON'T HATE MORMONS OR GOD!

  • That. Is. Hilarious.

  • This is just another example of the sexually stimulated gay agenda. You focus on genitalia and we focus of families.

  • Gay people have families.

And you do too focus on genatalia.

Otherwise you wouldn't care about same-sex marriage.

  • This ad is silly and disgusting.

  • Hey, if the gays want a marriage license, all they have to do is fake their gender by marking male or female.

  • It's ironic that conservative Protestants are such fierce opponents of gay rights to marry, - they were the ones fighting for the right to civil marriage in the 16th century. Only catholic church marriages were valid.

The Mormons are a different case, since their religion wasn't founded till 1830. But here, too, is irony -- since their practice of polygamy was one of the reasons the U.S. Army marched against the Mormon territory of Utah in 1857. They gave up polygamy to gain statehood.

  • It's government, not religion, which makes the marriage legal and binding. All US marriages derive their legality from civil law -- even the ones done in a religious setting. It's silly for the religious right to claim that even "civil marriage" is sacred and controllable by them, when civil marriage actually divorced itself from religion several centuries ago. In the U.S. marriage is officially regulated by government. The marriage license is granted by the county clerk or clerk of the court.

  • State sanctioned marriage is a civil contract period. A contract is not a judgment of moral value. It is a legal agreement between two parties that testifies to a meeting of minds between those consenting entities. It is not a religious act or rite and so has nothing to do with Adam and Eve or Steve or even Harvey. If you want to really want to understand the contract of marriage just ask anyone who has been divorced. The marriage contract is one of property rights.

  • I think it's bizarre that anyone would think it is draconian to not allow same sex marriages.

Prop 8 doesn't ban homosexuality, or any other behavior.

People do not want to recognize gay marriages and they shouldn't be forced to.

  • russcarljohnson, are you kidding me? Prop 8 BANS GAY MARRIAGES. PERIOD. No one is being "forced" to recognize gay marriages... the "religious" faction is simply "FORCING" their religion into the California Constitution, where they DO NOT BELONG! If you don't want to recognize gay marriages, DON'T HAVE ONE! NEVER before in our history has a minority group been targeted so specifically as to REMOVE EXISTING CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS from the CONSTITUTION! If that is not discrimination, nothing is!

  • I disagree.

No one is gaining or losing any rights. this is all a battle over semantics.

The gay community wants to be included in a term in the hopes that their actions will become accepted. They don't really want any "rights" associated with marriage, they have all of those already with civil unions and powers of attorney. They just want the word.

The majority of america does not want to extend that term to cover homosexual marriage. And i agree with them.

    And stop SHOUTING.

  • no it does not carry the same weight as marriage, it is not recognized in other states

  • Wrong. Please leave your personal opinion out of this and do some research on why the gay community is fighting Prop 8.

  • The people have spoken. Deal with it, nancies.

  • WoW Fantastic Video! It must be striking a chord here - because it has people quoting Leviticus! hahaha.

  • Anyone No-On-8 people wondering why you lost this video is your answer

  • no-one gives a fuck about your fairytale book that deny's people the right to get married.

you're an idiot if you don't see the bible is only a guideline, not something to believe in, stupid little baby.

  • excuse me? millions of people believe in the bible and it is against the constitution to make fun of any religion, whether you agree with it or not. FREEDOM OF RELIGION. and im pretty sure that youre the stupid little baby because you obviously dont know the english dictinoary very well since you have to use swear words. if you WERE'NT a stupid little baby then you would use more intelligant words than the f word.

  • excuse yourself, millions of people DON'T believe in the bible.

Smart person - reads bible, see's the messages in it, and makes their life better from the examples.

Idiot - Reads bible and believes it

The bible is a guideline for confused people, not something to be taken seriously.

  • and that coming from a 13 year old is just funny, you're the baby, so go cry to mummy.

thank god i dont have to deal with the constitiution, little freak, not everyone lives in your crappy country. an american, AND a Christian. wow you're ignorance levels are off the levels.

go cry to your mum, now xD

  • Arthurrobins, are you kidding me? Only the ignorant take the bible literally...pick and choose that in which to believe. In your face;

I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself.

Leviticus 25:44 states that I may buy slaves from the nations that are around us. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans but not Canadians. Can you clarify?

    This is religion!

  • and thats old testament...get some stuff from the new then we can go at it.

  • bottom line justlove101, books are written by man. Those books (old and new test.) were written by MAN to control MAN. Period. They continue to do so for those who follow. Those who do pick and choose that which to believe and follow. Those books are riddled with hatred and discrimination. MY GOD loves all...exactly how we are; loving, caring humans. My God JustLOVEs ALL! Equality for ALL! Even bible thumping bigots. Peace and love to all.

  • jduffm: can't believe in God and not his word or law. The bible was written by God THROUGH man, or inspired by God. The God I know does more than just love but CORRECTS also. You guys use this "control" thing for an excuse to do as you please and whatever you want. Theres more to life than just this physical we see everyday, there is a spiritual part of us. If more people were intuned to their spiritual side we wouldn't even have the desire or do most of the things we do now.

  • First off, the Leviticus verses are referring to adultery, in any form. Get it straight. And 1 Corinthians was changed by MAN not your GOD.

Just like King James changed a verse, men have been changing your Bible around since it was written, just so it may suit their needs better.

So don't quote the Bible in your defense. Besides, we have separation of church and state in America.

  • @arthurrobins Leviticus chapter one tels you how to sacrifice a lamb. Have you giving God your burnt offering today? Leviticus 11:7 tells you not to eat pig. Do you eat pork/bacon? Chapter 11 also bans shellfish and seafood. So, why does the "no gay" rule still apply in Leviticus and none of the others?

  • marriage has been between man and women for thousands of yrs and no one can change that even if the government does pass a gay marriage law that doesnt make it a legit marriage, 1 man plus 1 woman, thats marriage.

  • "even if the government does pass a gay marriage law that doesnt make it a legit marriage"

What a stupid statement you just made.

ALL marriages that are recognized by the government, whether they are same-sex or ooposite-sex couples, are LEGIT marriages, whether you like it or not.

And couples don't need to reproduce to have a marriage either. Sterile and old couples are allowed to marry.

    You also don't need religion.

    Atheists can get married.

  • conail, that is wrong, actually, it would be with a man and a boy in ancient sparta, or a man and man.

  • LMAO!!! that was so funny!

  • Ok for 8 supporters out there. If we added that children learn about domestic partnership along side marriage, wouldn't that totally undermine your goal to begin with? Children would learn that gay couples have the exact same rights. Would you have any reason it shouldn't be taught along side marriage? Should we just assume all children will take part in marriage when clearly some are gay?

  • (pt 2)

On the same day that Prop 8 passed in CA, Arkansas outlawed gay adoption! Where is this going to end?

The Founders enacted the Bill Of Rights to prevent against "tyranny of the majority" which was prevalent in England back then. This is where the majority (such as Protestants) could VOTE to cause an adverse effect to a minority (such as Catholics or Jews), including taking away a right that the majority enjoys.

This is exactly what happened in CA on Nov 4. Tyranny of the Majority.

  • an that would break the right of religious freedom.. gay ppl have all rights basically, if they really loved each other they wouldnt need a piece of paper that shows that their married.. and for every choice there is a consequence.. so i think gay ppl losed their own rights wen they wanted to b gay. an noones born gay i have no hatred towards them i have gay cuzns luvem to death bt this is just my oppinion.

  • "if they really loved each other they wouldnt need a piece of paper that shows that their married"

Then why does marriage exist at all?

Let's get rid of marriage for EVERYONE! :)

  • TNUH, I can assure you that if Prop 8 failed, children would not be in danger in any way. There is no doubt in my mind that gay people are just as good at being loving parents as we are.

This Prop 8 issue is about discrimination. Gay and lesbian people only want what you and I want. Nothing more, nothing less. Shouldn't we want them to feel the happiness that we ourselves derive from love?

There's nothing wrong with being religious... until you use it to justify hate and injustice. (cont)

  • no im just saying that parents wana teach their children bout homosexuality on the parents time an if kids learn it in school they will think that its normal an that their gender doesnt matter..an gay ppl should get married too.. bt not by forcing a church who doesnt believe in homosexuality.. cause if the church doesnt then that would be so called discrimination..

  • Im sitting here wide awake. idk what your waiting for. you want to know what im waiting for? im waiting for everyone to just get over prop 8. it passed, now deal with it. im sick of all the bullshit. its done with.

  • yes. it is a tough argument and really there is no right answer... because one side will always have one belief as the other will as well. so yeah, again it is my opinion on prop 8. and i give props to yours as well. :P

  • you can call me a hater, but i respect them as a person, i just dont agree with their choices.

  • this is my opinion, i dont think that james madison had gays in mind when he stated that. he was probably thinking more of poorer, lower class, or colored people. why? because there weren't that many, or even any gays at that time. i believe that it is a choice to be gay. not a birth given mind-set. i beleive it is a choice built up to from other choices in a persons life. i mean who has heard of a gay 6 year old? i doubt anyone. it is a choice made during someones life and in my opinion wrong.

  • Hey Bubba.

Even if you believe being gay is a choice why should it matter? Religion is a choice, yet people have a constitutionally guaranteed right to practice it and are never banned from anything because they are religious. Political beliefs are a choice yet nobody has been banned from being married, adopting, etc because of their political party. Believe what you want, but you haven't the right to penalize others because of your beliefs. Otherwise why can't they do the same to you?

  • Your right... there weren't any gays back then. they just appeared one day on June 13, 1972. Before that. No gays. Nope. Probably brought here by aliens or something.

    Wake up.

  • Man, the "no for prop 8" people really are reaching with these commercials... I think they need to hire out next time.

  • They have civil unions and the same rights as married couples anyway. Check this out..California family code: 297.5. (a) Registered domestic partners shall have the same rights,

protections, and benefits, and shall be subject to the same

responsibilities, obligations, and duties under law, whether they

derive from statutes, administrative regulations, court rules,

government policies, common law, or any other provisions or sources

of law, as are granted to and imposed upon spouses.

  • It is appalling that we are even discussing this; that people would even be allowed to "vote" on someone else's rights. This is exactly what James Madison feared: Tyranny of the Majority- the majority of the people vote to cause harm to the minority.

As a straight male in a backward Red state, I have always thought Californians were tolerant. You guys have changed my mind. To those who voted for Prop 8, I hope you can sleep well at night, knowing you have TAKEN AWAY rights from someone else.

  • If only there were more like, ur a good man. :)

  • ***sorry messed up***if only there were more people like you, ur a good man. :)

  • actually theyre voting for the sake of their children an religious rights.. an gay ppl took they own rights away by being gay. sooo iono wut all the fuss is about. theres a consequence for eveything. and yes i will sleep well tonight thanks for asking. lol

  • this ad is ridiculous. y do the no on prop 8ers have to run dirty ads for?? yes on 8 didnt run any an it stio passed. lol goes to show somethings were jus meant to stay the same.. bt nice try anyways.. better lucc next time.. ;)

  • agree :)

  • Calif. appellate judges created a right to homosexual marriage that did not exist.

The justice who authored the dissenting opinion stated that the California appellate court redefines marriage because it believes marriage should be redefined and in so doing, improperly infringed on the prerogative of the voters by overriding their decision. After Prop. 8 passed, perhaps the marriage licenses wont have to say Party A & Party B. They can actually use words like, "husband" & "wife."

  • Sure, just like those uppity judges in 1967 that re-defined traditional marriage in Loving v Virginia. We were much better off with the (popular) laws that ensured that traditional marriage was only between people of the same race.

  • Djbearrob

I will give you credit for knowing the name of the U.S. Supreme Court case. However, it is a faulty comparison. Someone's race is involuntarily; Who they select as a sex partner is not.

  • Average - And when did you "choose" your heterosexuality?

The comparison is not faulty. Your assumption about sexuality is.

The fact remains that traditional marriage was re-defined by the court in 1967.

  • Government intervention should be avoided whenever possible.

  • This video is proff that Gay people want to force the rest of us to live by their life sytle. Read the Bible, it says that Gays should be put to death, I did not say that God did and Gay cannot live by God's laws so they want to rest of us to live by their laws, That is just wrong!!! May God bless this country that I love!!!!!

  • The Bible (Leviticus) also says that children who lie to their parents should be stoned too. Guess you have some catching up to do, right?

  • LamaniteChief, you should know your Bible pretty well then shouldn't you? We go to Leviticus and read on my boy!

The Bible (Leviticus) also says that children who lie to their parents should be stoned too. Guess you have some catching up to do, right?

  • eyeoftaurus, yes the Bible says many things that poeple today just cannot or will not live by.

    What is your point?

Those who live right need not fear anything in this world or the next.

  • "yes the Bible says many things that poeple today just cannot or will not live by." Maybe, if some parts of Leviticus are archaic and not followed anymore, who's to say the rest are not either. Give homosexuals equal rights and everyone will be happy.

  • the government didnt put it into effect californians did and good thing too

  • lol. this is hilarious

  • Some how I can see this happening in the future because next thing you know the bible will be edited and tell people to do this.

  • I approve of prop 8 but I don't approve of genital inspection.

  • Well too late, if you're going to get married you're going to have to have a genital inspection, in fact, you're going to have to also provide a DNA sample to prove you didn't have a sex change operation. You voted for it, we tried to talk you out of it.

  • kioo: I DON'T remember seeing that on the ballot. Goddamm fine print!.....and I don't have a great personality OR money.

  • Hahahahaha

"I'm sure you have a ... great - personality though"

  • FUCK YOU FAGGOTS!

  • ummmm no thxs mate. Thaks for the offer tho ;)

  • My rights are being violated if it is not passed if we are on that note. But i wouldnt expect you all to understand that!! Just focus on yourselves and what seems "good" to you!!

  • Its funny and ironic how violent all the people get that are against prop 8 and prop 102, You all are so busy with this idea that all your rights are being stripped from you when indeed that is far from the truth.

  • This is filth. Did it go on the air?

  • End government discrimination between married and unmarried persons and this becomes a non-issue.

So long as government claims authority over marriage (an institution of the community - not of the government) we will never see "recognized" gay marriage because it drives up the cost of doing business. Thieves in government can manipulate public fear to continue discriminating against gays.

  • It is just not right, guys, gals. Many want to believe that everything is shades of grey. This idea is black and white. It is a moral issue... but even if you do not believe in morals it is a social issue. This is because any society embracing such unions is severly weakened and eventually dissolves. While a society that strenghtens the family, grows and thrives. This fact can be verified in many places and by many means. It is a shame some will not understand that idea.

  • HA THAT WAS HILLARIOUS

  • prop 8 stops sick acts and stops the real reason for gay marriage-to get at our children-glad there is some sanity left in california-prop 8 passed and these God HATERS DID NOT WIN

  • just because a person agrees with gay mariage duz not mean that a person hates god

    i am religious

but 1st of all the bible has been rewritten so many times u have no idea if it is against or for gay mariage

and 2nd i believe that god just wants the people to be happy and find love no matter wat gender they prefer so long as they are good people and aim for heaven

    love is love so stfu

  • This is really funny! If it weren't so true about what these "religious" people do when they take away others' civil rights.

  • oh screw you guys. YES ON 8!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • LOVE IT! This is it in a proverbial {pardon the pun!} nutshell!

  • The marriage equality movement isn't going anywhere. Prop 8 will be overturned, before Obama's first term ends.

  • Okay, in that case, you should be perfectly content to give up your marriage for a civil union with your significant other, right? I mean, according to you, its the exact same amount of utility and rights, so why shouldn't everyone do it.

And to when you argue with that statement, don't ever claim that things are equal then.

  • LOL

  • Soooo... your right to religion is that much more important than the rights of fellow people? You are really that content to take away the rights and happiness of other people for the sake of religion? That just seems contradictory to me.

Seriously, if religion causes this, I am so glad I don't follow any. What should have been a great thing people have twisted so that they can justify harming others and giving unequal treatment. Because let's face it, things arent equal now. Its just sad...

  • Religion shapes people's cultural identity, so hell yes, it's that important. You have no right to tear away people's cultural identity and replace it with your own WORTHLESS, TRENDY and SUPERFICIAL bullcrap. There's a reason its mentioned in the constitution. Marriage isn't mentioned in the constitution, because in itself, it has nothing to do with the government. The ONLY reason the government is involved with it is that it protects children and promotes maintenance of healthy population.

  • What the hell are you smoking? Your precious cultural identity is so important it can decide on other people's lives? You have no right to take away equality and replace it with YOUR worthless, trendy and superficial bullcrap. Ever looked at it that reversed way? At least this country does maintain civil rights for everyone and does not discriminate based on what a dusty book claims. You fail to see how things are from both sides of the debate.

  • No, you idiot. The ones trying to impose on other people's lives are the ones who intend to teach that "gay marriage" and marriage are identical to little children. I am merely insisting that DOESN'T happen. Also, you're a moron. I have tried to explain that gays already get "married," by their definition. They get all the same rights. But the fascists want to control the language, too. That is not free speech, when the government reprograms your kids with a new lexicon reflecting YOUR values.

  • First of all let's get civilized cause I do want to understand you. Fact is I apparently fail to understand your point of view and that won't help anyone.

Do you believe they teach little kids about gay marriage here? If marriage doesn't change anything anyway, why deny them that marriage? Is this really about protecting kids and if so, from what?

  • protecting kids from thinking being gay is okay an normal. wen it really isnt. they should decide wen they grow older.. i dont think id like to see two 6th grade boys kissing. lol now thats sicc.

  • Who decides what's normal? I think it's an important value to respect other people and their oppinions even if you disagree. Respecting does not mean affecting their lives. That's why I really disapprove the choice made by the majority of voters on prop 8. This ofcourse is my oppinion and if I start forcing it on others Id be no better than those who I dislike most.

  • "just call it something else. If you're so 'progressive' why can't you come up with another name!"

Because federal law uses the same name. Frankly, I'd be happiest if "marriage" was not a word the government used for anything itself, but that was handed out as appropriate by different religions to their followers as they see fit. Call 'em all civil unions, I say. But those need to be equal, and can't be, until that happens at a state and federal level both.

  • Domestic partnerships in California ARE identical, legally. That is what is required of the govnernment under the equal protection clause.

  • Namordecai: No, they're not. Example: There's no DP equivalent of confidential marriage.

  • Propositions like this really make me lose faith in humanity... how sad that so many people could be so blind and horrible. I honestly cannot fathom how those people who voted yes on this crap can live with themselves for the happiness you have just destroyed for your petty "beliefs". I hope this gets fixed as soon as possible...

  • Gay people have EXACTLY the same rights as everyone else. All prop. 8 did was prevent the government from tricking children into believing "gay marriage" and marriage are the same, when we all know they are not. Only a moron would think, "Eh, who needs a father," or, "Who gives a crap about having a mother?" And then impose that idea on society, expecting it to have no impact. In Canada, the idea that marriage is only about romantic love has reduced the birthrate to about 1.5 kids per couple.

  • Same rights? You gotta be kidding. The federal tax differences alone are huge.

  • What makes you think the Federal government would suddenly change their definition of marriage?? Feds are COMPLETELY irrelevant tot he debate about California law. And under Obama, he'll be imposing higher taxes for married couples, so the gays will be happy about that.

  • Fed tax: that was only in re your "Gays...EXACTLY the same rights." I agree the feds won't change soon. I still think that it might someday is a real difference. But, sure, I'll play along, here's a purely state example:

Confidential marriage. Opposite-sex couples have the right to have their relationship registered without a public record. Same-sec couples don't, and that point may help us overturn Prop. 8, which would be SWEET.

  • OR maybe people will wise up and realize the ONLY interest the state has in this stuff is CHILDREN. The state would never have gotten involved in marriage AT ALL if it were not for procreation. Since "gay marriage" typically lacks a father and only 50% of gays even WANT children and since gay people can't procreate anyway, how about the government just say, "Ah, to hell with it. 'Gay marriage' is socially useless and gays technically have the right to marry the opposite sex."

  • 1. I'm still waiting for you to respond to my point on confidential marriage.

    2. Marriage became a state thing because of property and inheritance as it was about procreation, but yes, raising children well is critical, even if we disagree on the same-sex thing. I know a great same-sex couple raising adopted "unadoptable" kdis, and I'd like those children to enjoy every possible protection. P8 may end up destroying, not renaming, that marriage. Good job at protected the kids there, sly.

  • Since confidentiality is practically irrelevant, no response. As far as your second, irrelevant as well since domestic partnerships offer identical benefits to marriage. You're grasping at straws. Again, this is about how our language represents the free speech of the cultural heritage of the majority and the free speech of our ancestors. The government has no right to tear something that central to the core identity of 100's of millions of Americans and the immigrants that come here.
