you can get the first two albums as a set from most music stores for about a tenner, 100 broken windows and hope is important. 100 b w is amazing and i think the first album contains most of their ep captain

The Remote Part is their crowning glory, they have yet to match it terms of all around quality. I would deff. get Warnings/Promises, it's excellent, and more like The Remote Part than their earlier, punkier sounding albums like 100 broken windows, and Hope is Important.

My old local music shop was great for picking up CD's from bands i didnt know for dirt cheap. they always had boxes of Cd singles that werent charting anymore or didnt even chart for sale for like 50p each. used to spend my lunch money on CD's just coz i liked the album art, got into some good bands this way. also bought some awful stuff too.

it really gets on my noggin that Idlewild don't really get much recognition.

Especially when there are such poor bands being hailed as British greats, such as the kooks and the ting tings.

ya, i love hope is important, the grunge ting to it is wonderful. i agree with you in that i'm not a fan of the remote part so much and make another world (euuugh), but warnings/promises has some nice folky sounds. it's hard to call my favourite personally, but i think this is their 'opus'

I think "Gertrude Stein said that's enough / I know that's not enough" maybe means Roddy is trying to say there is more than "a rose is a rose is a rose", its deeper than that.... maybe?
