Turns out it was an upper respiratory infection. Some antibiotics, a couple days and some TLC and Gizmo recovered marvelously :-)

It looks like asthma to me. I could see him gulping air. My cat coughed for years and I just now found out it's asthma (from a chest xray). Please take kitty to the vet. Coughing is serious.
