  • Thanks!

  • ;_; *cries a river on her desk* this is so frustrating, for once i pick homework first

  • You and Feng Zhou, both of you are making my life much easier, thank you!

  • What brush are you using here?

  • I've been watching your videos for some time now and they've been very helpful. Faces look way better now that before. Bodies as well. Environments... that is still tricky, but with practice...Now onto my question. I'd like to paint few pencil drawn scanned drawings in the way you and others do it. Could you, please, give some useful articles to me too? I'm totally new to digital painting so any pointers for a starter on how to pull it off would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.:)

  • Can you draw like one of your french girls il send you mah pick XD

  • Hey I'm a pretty damn frustrated novice, and I'm trying to pull together one of my first environment pieces. Right now everything I do feels like a waste of time so I'd appreciate it if you answered these two questions.

    1. Here, you made a natural environment. But what should I do differently when painting a structure? Does the foreground, mid-ground and background still apply?

    2. Adding lighting is a giant pain. Do you make a new layer and add the color via overlay?

  • @Ultermarto Check your inbox for useful articles. All your questions could not be fit in one video. Go watch all my videos if possible. This is not magic, it is education. ;-)

  • @idrawgirls Can I get those useful articles too ^^?

  • @idrawgirls could i get some of those useful articles as well.

  • Do you always sraw from your head?

  • @Radenska512 This one is.

  • I don't suppose you have this in a type format?

  • @idrawgirls Thanks again for your reply, but unfortunately there is nothing in my inbox :/

  • @TheBearbearian What about now? ;-)

  • @idrawgirls Great vid, great tutorials, many thanks for taking the time to share them with us! A quick question: would you please elaborate in some detail the step after you're done with the grayscale silhouette and you get to the actual coloring, what setup do you use? What settings do you use for your layers? For instance, do you use multiply? Approx. how many layers do you use? My drawings look fine at the silhouette stage, but when I start coloring, it all becomes a bloody mess. Thanks!

  • @TheBearbearian No problem, yep you have a really long and many questions like a lot of folks. Check your inbox for useful tips and articles. peace!

  • hi, do you use any type of drawing board as wacom board etc? or do you just draw with your mouse?

    ty

  • @eparbt DUDE READ THE FUCKIN COMMENTS

  • Hiiii!! the brush which is used to start that looks like a chalk???

  • @427adri It comes with CS5 default.

  • @idrawgirls Ohh that leaves everything clear .... I use CS3 :S

  • do you use textured brushes or just the custom ones?

and what are their settings exactly if you don't mind me asking ?

  • @coldmemories1 Too much to write, I already wrote about that long ago. Check your inbox.

  • So your Program and Tablet you drew on????

  • @mechmash12 PS and Wacom

  • You're amazing!

  • @AjfromDamons Thanks, I wish I could be more helpful. ;-)

  • Very Nice tutorials, this one is my favorite! Can you send me the brush set?

And in which mode are you drawing the shapes at the beginning please?

    Thank you!

  • @MsZyniel Yep, brushes set is on its way.

  • Are you on Google+?

  • @prometheuszero9 easier on facebook. check your inbox

  • Whats a tablet that you recommend (or use)? Don't care about the cost, must have!

  • @ramprire Wacom intuo big! If you want to get Cintiq then get the big one, not small.

  • @idrawgirls Is a Wacom Intuos Large good for a serious artist? or is extra large the preferred? Im thinking of getting Cintiq large much much later

  • @ramprire I used Cintiq at work, save your money (unless you have extra laying around then get it), but Large intuo should be more than sufficient. Make sure you have 2-3 of +17 monitor set up. Now that's heaven.

  • @idrawgirls I think large intuo should be very good for me. I will get Cintiq XXXXXXLarge when I actually get a job to do this stuff (which is what I aim to do).

As for the monitors.... Well I have a giant screen TV and my laptop monitor. Both 17+ INCH diagnol and 34+ INCH diagnol.

  • @ramprire When you get a job to do this stuff, you get Cintiq and Intuo for free. ;-)

  • Is he uses a mouse of a tablet? I'm really good at drawing, but do not know if I can use a map to do such work?

  • @baherroth Mouse is not made for drawing. Stick to pencil or get yourself a tablet. All the pros use tablet.

  • @baherroth Go for a tablet, fersure :)

  • ur a pro

  • @yellowmangoman thx.

  • Why does this video have to have so many views?

    I don't want all this competition :(

  • @SupremeCommander360 It is a very competitive field. ;-)

  • can you also send me the link to the brushes? much appreciated! this is an amazing helping video! thank you!

  • @waterandink Thanks, sure sure. ;-)

  • @idrawgirls mee too please

  • @idrawgirls me to please :)

  • @abofuker sure

  • Amazing how you bother replying to so many comments. I respect you.

  • @jellyover LOL, it doesn't take long. And they probably wants to know. ;-)

  • Freakin awesome dude!! helped a lot this tutorial thanks! Also the brushes you used! been waitin for such man! can you give any link to the brushes?

  • @Ex0T0C No problem, check your inbox.

  • @idrawgirls me too man can you please send me the link?

  • @boyboydubdub Brushes? sure

  • This is an absolutely wonderful toturial! You've brought in many concepts that I can learn from.

Do you think you can also tell me what brush you have used in your tutorial? I really like that brush.

  • @PengunaFilms Thanks, I will send you the brushes. Check your PM.

  • @idrawgirls Could you send me the brushes as well? :-)

  • @SamyasaSwi sure

  • Comment removed

  • Very nice! I'm looking for the brush you used. Where and how did you get it? The brush lined shaped with a certain angle.

  • @Denjecho You are missing the point. But check your inbox anyway.

  • @Denjecho alright this is to you and ALL the others who are thinking how he manages to get that brush.

Photoshop, which he is using has an option called the brush tool options. to open this - select the brush tool, and press F5 ( default CS5, i think previous versions had this too). when u press F5, there should be a panel that pops out from the side. in this panel there is a circle, which is ur brush, provided you are using the default hard round brush. edit the angle and thickness from this.

  • May I please know what software and tools you are using? Im 17 and would love to get into concept art. Not sure which programs or kind of tablets or other equipments to use. You are really good at this and I hope to get a feedback from someone as experienced as you! :) Thankyou very much!!

  • @baronchuahiong PS and Wacom

  • Amazing. I am a digital artist as well, and I want to say that your tutorial helped me a lot. I am working on a landscape (winter) right now, and I can tell that just drawing out the basic shapes/layouts determines how well your piece will be once it's completed. Anyway, great video, and keep up the good work!

  • @Tonesyxx Thanks! Glad I can help. ;-)

  • Once again, amazing. Thanks so much.

  • brilliant tutorial mate!!! do you use another layer in color/overlay mode to give the initial color or u just put ur brush in that mode? and how u know when to use that texture brush??

    keep up ur great artwork

  • @jamestrife Yes and no, there are articles in my blog explain all the principle. Check your pm.

  • Do you use the mouse?

  • Hi! Amazing work! :)

I just have a quick amateur-ish question(s). Have you ever worked using Paintool Sai? If so, is there a way I can open a layered saved work from sai using PS? Because most times I want to edit sth in PS, it says its not the right format, and I'd have to go back to SAI and merge down all the layers. I dont want to do that anymore. :(

And also, for basic drawing in PS what's the best brush?

sorry for the hassle and thanks.

  • @qateralnadaov Wow, long question... check your inbox. ;-)

  • which software are u using for dis?

    plz tel me .

    ne ways gud work done.:)

  • @arbiter3431 check your PM

  • This is a brilliant video, I recently just bought a tablet and i'm now using Photoshop CS5 and I have to say this is inspirational. I hope to be as good as you someday :)

  • @lappy744 Thanks good luck, check my blog for a lot more tips. ;-)

  • What tools are you using? Iv got an idea on what i want to paint but i always fumble through the program and end up getting frustrated (im also doing this on a laptop touch pad thingy) i dont know if i should use a regular brush with low opacity or the mixer brush

    any advice would be appreciated.

  • @OutlawSoto Tablet is made for drawing and painting. Not touchpad. Get a Bamboo to start off with or if you really want to get serious, get Wacom Intuos series. Check your pm.

  • It always amazes me to watch people create something beautiful out of nothing. :)

  • @SalladSupport It is more amazing to me that all these we see are just collective combination of 0s and 1s How could this be? ;-)

  • @idrawgirls That's the mystery I suppose. :P

  • @idrawgirls

what software do you use please! :D i want to lern and start my own concept drawings :)

  • @jibster94 PS and Wacom

  • i like being a conceptual artist

  • really wow.....when will i be able to paint and draw like that:(

  • ur so pro :D

  • can you do a tutorial on how to make a dark starry sky and a cliff? If you can, can you do it on Windows 7 Paint or whatever program you use?

  • it rewind me world of warcraft

  • Your accent is really charming! I have a question, do you work on just one layer? You seemed to paint the colours over the values without switching layers.

Also, how long did it take you to make the painting?

  • how do you draw so acurate without zooming in, is that the tablet? ive got this wacom bamboo thing , its very small , do u use a very big tablet?

  • waaaa..... geram aku tgk! grrr

  • is that a Faux brush your using that you just altered?

  • i think it is photoshop

  • Wow, am I jealous!

  • what program do you use?

  • @sovann20 I guess is Photoshop

  • Nice tutorials!

  • Thing!

  • What is that flat thin brush you use at 1:50 ???

  • damn you rock! ... what else can I say, I'm in awe of your talent to take such simple brush strokes and turn them in to a masterpiece... I mean... Damn!

  • Do most concept artists use graphics pads? im 17 and would love to get into concept art for the games industry but im not sure which programs to use or if i need a graphics tablet or other equipment. Anyone that can help? it'd be much appreciated.

  • @RoryEastwayMMA yea same boat. does anyone know what program hes using? its photoshop right? yea and is he using some kind of drawing pad?

  • @davincidecoder754 yeah ive spoke to him about this, he uses photoshop 7 and a Wacom Intusio 3 tablet. I have photoshop elements and an Intusio 4 and it works the same :P hope i helped :D

  • @RoryEastwayMMA yea thanks! :D

  • @davincidecoder754 Intuos* not intusio haha

  • damn!

    so nice

  • I love your artwork! You actually made me buy one of those bambootablets and start drawing myself. :D

I'm very into these enviromental pictures you do so i've some questions about those.

    1. Do you paint in different layers all the time?

    2. What kind of layereffects do you use when painting with your brushes? Take for an exampel this picture. What effects did you use?

Thank you for regaining my inspiration back! Gonna buy a bunch of your tutorials after christmas.

    Merry Christmas!

  • Man I love your work, and not in a negative way, but I find myself wishing I didn't ever see it. I used to be able to draw and paint really well but now I just don't have the time, and I'd give anything to be able to do it like you do.

You might be pleased to know you've inspired me.

  • Ahhh, man. I don't know how you do it. But I love what you do.

  • What is this program? Pls....

  • @Flixondra Its Photoshop, looks like CS4

  • this is great but i dont know the tools ur using..

  • Man, thanks so much for this~ <3 You're amazing. ;]

  • you didn't mention a thing about layers, did you do all of this on one single layer?

  • nice, but this aint a tutorial =.=

  • @metroidgoodsuit u cant teach creativity and talent. Tips to do and watch for maybe

  • @thnikkaman2 over time through practice you develop talent and will learn creativity from things you see when you draw it seems crazy to say u can learn creativity but its not, but most people dont have what it takes to become great at Digital art there r no short cuts and its takes alot of time dont be put off it but dont wast time if u know deep down u cant spend days/weeks on a painting to make it great coz at the end of the day to be this good you HAVE to go through that process.

  • this painting is shit hot ;D

  • You have helped me a lot about digital painting ... thank you ..

  • what program are you useing?

  • What program did you use? Photoshop?

  • nicest picture i saw today. absolutely.

  • What i was wondering is what sort of basic layer and settings you work with?

    You make excellent tutorials. Thanks!

  • @kurokiss1 He's human. How's that for an answer!

  • Wow this tutorial was so professional. Speechless.

  • Brilliant video, it really helped me out a lot. It was a bit quick, but nonetheless brilliant. Are you using a Pallet by the way?

  • how to squeeze the brush?

  • what brush is he using?

  • OMG! I could only dream of doing something like this! Thanks for giving me hope. :)

    hugs,

    ~Puppet

  • Are you using a tablet? That was just amazing!

  • @JoMaaaaan

    ty :)

  • omg... this is amazing...

eeeh what kind of program are you using :) ?

  • This is what I like about digital painting, you usually start off with the darker colors and end with the light ones.. Instead of going from light to dark like in paintings :) just wanted to point that out lols x)

  • @Silversealxox - Very nice point. I'm extremely new to digital art (to the point where it's discouraging) heh.. So I'll try to bare that observation in mind. Thanks.

  • asian accent

  • @kinggambitabc And your point is??

  • @90carlw - Ah, the amusements of simpletons. lol

This video was very creative. I like how he was concise yet precise to his fluid movements during the creation of the video. <3

  • @YourDarkAccomplice What? Why are you talking to me, what have i got to do with this?

  • @90carlw - Oh, because you asked the guy "And your point is??" After he stated what he did. I figured you'd put two and two together when you saw your own comment. As for my talking about the video afterwards, well, I wanted to stay on focus on the good job of the video instead of the thoughtlessness of some people's comments. ;)

  • @YourDarkAccomplice Ok whatever, I like the artists work, im an artist myself. I was not refering to the work at all, only a comment by another user. Good day to you to.

  • @90carlw from my understanding that was his/her point. lol

  • @NobleRoyalty Just Fuck off, I cba with this stupid argument anymore.

  • @90carlw WHOA somebody's massively anal (touchy)! which only serves to prove YourDark's point. if you actually had any reading comprehension, you'd see that this was no argument and that YDA was on YOUR side the whole time. LMAO funny stuff. he/she was AGREEING with you and you had to take it up the ass and turn it into an argument. Rofl!

  • @NobleRoyalty OMG, I feel so retarded right now. I thought he/she was refering to me as a simpleton. Nevermind sorry for telling you to fuck off aswell :) BIG misunderstanding on my part.

  • @90carlw lol no probs, I understand. I hate racist comments as well. especially towards someone with great talent like this guy. sorry i agree with you too. x)

  • @90carlw - I can assure you, it is not my eyes that betrayed me. But my judgment. I had assumed, that because you said that to him, that you were more enlightened than you are. Instead, you fail to get my point and instead take things too personally, defensively, and quite destructively. I was trying to avoid giving too much life on the matter by direction your attention back to this amazing piece of work, but instead, here you are... misconstruing the matter. *sigh* Good day to you, I suppose.

  • lava cool i'm going to put lava in a land scape too good idea, but i find using the lasoo tool better for bloking in shapes and then just using the blur tool to smooth and sculpt before adding minor filter and texture

  • What is that tool you use that looks like a knife that sharpens and edges things you use towards the beginning of the video?

  • Omg, thanks a lot man. Really great and simple tutorial.

  • greatness

  • Did you use Overlay brush mode for colouring black&white picture?

  • Really Helps alot, keep them coming <3

  • The modern day Bob Ross.... amazing

  • Can someone answer this for me: How do you, without pulling up the color bar, select a color you have been using. So, i nessence, how do you pull out hte eyedropper, what button is that?

  • @MajorLeagueDoorKickr When you paint with brush press and hold ALT (Don't know the relative button in mac) - that gives you the eyedropper. Whe you release the alt you can continue with the brush.

If i understant correctly this is what you were asking?

  • @crdf yes. thank you

  • I would love to learn your brush settings once, or somebody link me where he says the settings. I might have overseen it. :)

  • Your damn amazing.Holy crap I wish I could do this.

  • Dude you are incredible!! Great work and great tutorials!!

  • where does he get all his brushes from? I need a preset like that!

  • dude thank you very much i wanna ask that do you use wacom or something like that where you draw or can i use just mouse for that i think its very hard with only mouse i think wacom is best but what you think can i start with mouse thanks and 5 stars and subscribe

  • do you use many layers?

  • someone wasn't paying attention.

  • This is awesome... Great skill buddy...

  • That's awesome...very impressive! Thanks for sharing. Can you tell me how do you record your tutorial? What software is it? Thanks. :-)

  • It's ok as a tutorial if you already know the program. Seems to also have had the audio removed for some reason. Based on the periodic arrow pointing.

  • Very nice. Not much of a tutorial though.

  • does lava give off steam?!!? good painting though :)

  • @kurzwasple it sure does.

  • waaw!!!

    so creative...........i lov it..thnx:)

  • you got great tutorials, you speak really understandable and straight to the point. i like that.

  • can i download your brushes somewhere ?

  • @FeroxX I think he just uses the standard brushes, if you click the > on the brush panel at the very bottom of the menu that has just slid out will be several brushes that aren't on the standard panel, click on them and choose "append" on the pop up. they should be there
