Brilliant performance. Just starting to learn this myself and your excellent performance gives me something to (unrealistically!) aspire to! Love it !
Thanks for the comment. My interpretation is "technically" incorrect. However, I reverse the order of the Preludes and play #1 last. It just makes more sense to me that way. My reworking of the dynamics is the result of the order of play.
As I study this piece and work out different interpretations, I like how you move to dolce at the end of B echoing the previous phrase, and how you crescendo to the end when everyone else likes to go soft. It really adds personality to the piece. -CARY
Thanks for posting and for showing the fingering so well! It is a great help learning this beautifull piece! And a splendid performance as well - Thanks!
Chris, you have only improved. You have always been great, but this is perfection. You have worked so hard to get where you are! BRAVO!! And Congratulations!
Segovia is/was the undisputed master but YOUR mastery of this piece is second to none!! I have been working on this piece. YOU are my inspiration. I have watched it countless times. Thank you for making my learning endeaver so incredibly enjoyable! Please post more!!
My favorite performance of a Villa-Lobos prelude. Chris, your playing here has an energy and a bite that I think Villa-Lobos himself would have loved. And I love your gesture at the end -- you knew you had nailed it!
Thanks! We plan to put more up after we have a chance to review old concert footage. I have some old video from 25 years ago, but I don't have a Betamax player, so I'll have to have a professional help me. We'll do some new stuff as well.
BRAVO!

You do realise that you should play it differently at 1:08-1:14?
Mitthrawnuruodo1 4 months ago
@Mitthrawnuruodo1 - It's just one of several alternate versions approved by Villa-Lobos. There's another with John Williams playing on YouTube.

At 1:09 he doesnt play the exact music, he just uses his pink, but the music says he must slide his pink and ringfinger.

I just realized it's been quite some time since I played this one.
Guess I'll have to go find my nylon-string guitar again.

Absolutely one of the best interpretations I've ever heard.
Prelude no.1 is very dear to me, and I do not like most interpretations. However, this one is amazing :)
Thank you for playing and posting it
