sorry, NZ govt gets paid 1% of oil value - it gets shipped overseas, refined and sold back to NZ at normal cost price. No extra jobs - oil companies bring in their own trained staff. many of the well points are deeper than the one in the Gulf of Mexico disaster. remember that? how they couldnt get down to block it?
well, some of the wells in the south island are ten times bigger that that Gulf pocket. can you imagine how much oil would gush out in a similar accident?
