Sideshowbobx, I did use a tillering stick to help with tillering to help with making sure the limbs were balanced. I would just use the method of scraping and bending the limb to get it close, then use the tillering stick to keep the limbs balanced.
Thanks, all. Sorry so long in answering questions. The tree is a Hickory. I cut it in August, as suggested by Paul Comstock's book, "The Bowyer's Bible". Stripped the bark right after cutting, prepped the ends with white glue and let it sit a year to dry (the glue apparently seals the ends so the wood dries through the grain without checking (cracking). The string is braided sinew, which was purchased online on a small spool. I twisted 2 pieces together to give more strength.
I just finished my first bow. I had to use a board to start with because I don't have access to trees I can cut. It is an awesome feeling shooting something you made though!
great job - did you do the tillering free handed without a tiller and a board or have you edited this part out? Watch you using a scraper as I use for taking wood off while tillering, and bending a limb with the bow fixed to the table - so was that done freehand?
que pedazo de pelotudo el flaco ese!!!, cortar semejante árbol para eso !!!
