im going to guess that if u were fishing from homer u either fished down by chugach island or down towards gore point. Because those are the two closest places that have lingcod of any size near homer.
@halibutsnatcher For several very good reasons: 1) Virtually all Pacific Halibut that weigh over 100 pounds are females. The big girls are super-breeders, able to lay up to four million eggs a year! We want future generations to have the same fishing opportunities that we do. 2) Bigger halibut have tougher meat. We ended this trip with over 200 pounds of fillets. That seemed like enough. 3) It wasn’t big enough to get us on the leader board in the Homer Halibut derby.
@neversat NOW YOU MY FRIEND ARE A TRUE FISHERMAN YOU SAID IT ALL IN YOUR MESSAGE FUTURE FISHERMAN CPR CATCH PHOTO RELEASE VERY NICE BUT HELL YEAH EAT SOME
@mikeydude319 You are correct. It is a Lingcod, which is neither a Ling nor a Cod. Lingcod live along the West coast of North America and us West-coasters often call them "Lings".
Oops ! Sorry Jesse, I saw a double post and tried to earse it and everything got trashed. Jesse , that was the best trip I could ever wish to be on. I've been a big fan of Alaska fishermens catching halibuts since I was a kid. You guys did a great job up there like a real
Alaska Pro Fishermen!
I'm so happy that you shared your fishing adventure with Youtube viewer's like me that was so much fun watching, great editing action all the way.
Thanks for the nice comments. As a true fisherman, you HAVE to get up to Alaska. The fishing is amazing. The only problem is that once you fish Alaska, you will feel the need to go back on a regular basis.
