I enjoyed it. It could of been better but if you are still doing the short films that's great. I'm guessing Gina she really didn't get into character. She could of been more convincing. Other than that it was great!
I should probably add that you wouldn't have to do any of the editing. Just email me the footage and I'll put it together myself. Unless you wanna do it; which is fine too
@DarthBug1 I may be interested. It wouldn't be a student film for me, as I'm not a student anymore. All the directing I do now is for fun and to build my resume. I'm going to be directing a music video fairly soon, and I have several screenwriting contest deadlines to hit in the coming months, so I may not be able to direct this project right off, it may be a few months before I can get to it if that's fine by you. So let me think on this for a bit. send me a message with the premise.
Wasn't that bad. If you're still making short films, I've been working on a script that you would be perfect to direct. I'd do it myself if I had any actors. It could also be your next student film. Reply back if you're interested. I promise you won't regret it
Wow. . . LOVED IT!!! My only problem was Lindsays acting. She just didn't get into character, and I've read the previous comments about how she was good reading her lines, but she didn't do to good when it came time to actaually film. Other than that I thought that the film was really good. My favorite line was "We can't fix dead" I don't know why but i liked it.
lol .. in the conversation part it looks like that the girl in white dressed is not a ghost .. cu'z the ghost talk like she is just a normal person .. and why the ghost is available to touch? the ghost is a spirit right?
@Bernachaeleeckson Ghost rules are never consistent from myth to myth and from culture to culture. Some ghosts are able to take on physical, tangible forms. The conversation that took place... I was never happy with it. I really wanted an ambient, silent atmosphere. You can tell. The first half of the film almost feels like a different film from the second half. It goes from almost complete silence to this long conversation. I had to add that in to fulfill the assignment requirements.
@KOSMOSandTELOS The second half of the script was completely rewritten to fulfill requirements needed for the assignment. Originally the ghost didn't talk, it was just Marie chasing after Amber, trying to make peace so that Amber's soul can move on. It's Marie's desperate attempt to stop Amber from haunting her. My actress couldn't pull off the the emotional range needed for the scene, even as it's written here. Marie is supposed to be frustrated and terrified throughout the entire short film.
@KOSMOSandTELOS thats my point actually... its like yer conversing to a ghost like casper but was trying to be scary but the girl isnt afraid... isnt it freaky when u see the dead? isnt it freaky when the person yer talking to or a ghost yer talking to would be like all over the place? its like a drama scene with casper.:| but like what i said, the script was nice... but the idea of conversing to the dead isnt that awesome
This is a conversation you should be having with the Director. And that they should be having with you. According to the Director, the actress didn't have strong enough acting skills for her part. She was meant to be frustrated yet terrified and that was not portrayed well by the actress. And apparently, in the initial script, the ghost never spoke.
Also, the point of my other reply was to say: "hey, I commented before watching. ignore my comment"
@rafaelliization My actress read fine during casting, but she lacked motivation to learn the lines. She was more convincing on script, but off script she was totally lost. Every line had to be fed to her. It was a nightmare. But lesson learned. And in the original script, the ghost didn't talk. It was supposed to be Marie desperately trying to plead with Amber to stop while Amber did ghostly things to scare Marie. The second half of the film was intended be as silent as the first.
I like the idea of the story. But the acting wasnt really as strong. Also, at 6:11 around there on the overlay I didnt like how you took away the part from showing the dead person, then transitioned that into showing the grass and stuff. Then you faded it out. Also the shadow kind of distracted my during the start in the background.
wow good angle shots...great lighting...looks like you have a good budget and good locations! and good editing..for a 1st time production you hit this one out of the park!
when u went to the kitchen for the water...I was distracted by the shadow moving in the background (left) I thought u were alone in the movie??? Spent too much time on the ghostgirl when going to the kitchen...camera should have followed and stayed on you, until just before u entered the kitchen... as u walk into the kitchen....we see the ghostgirl.... end scene!
only thing as a filmmaker i would be worried about is the music, the part where all the lights went off and came back up was not as shocking because the music was a bit odd, other than that it was fantastic =D very good makeup, amazing camera shots. =)
great job!! obviously one of your first films, but keeping that in mind, the film is suspenseful, you do mess with the audience's emotions as a good horror flick should do...anyway, can I ask what you shot it on?
@NexusNine GREAT JOB. IT'S A VERY WELL DONE SCRIPT WHICH IS ALSO ORIGINAL. BEING HAUNTED BY A GHOST WHO DOESN'T WANT TO BE FORGOTTEN IT'S VERY SCARY! CONGRATS!!! JOE BACCHIN>BRAZILIAN SCREENPLAY WRITER/FILM EDITOR
It was pretty good although at first when I watched it I didnt understand how she died (also because I though the other person in the car was a guy) but when I went back I noticed it was Maire.
I like the music, so dramatic. I liked how the ghost directly looked at the camera at 1:56. The acting is kinda stale. But the shadowy-atmosphere kinda makes up for it. From 4:20 till 4:23 those 3 seconds of silence actually are the only thing that scared me. But i laughed out loud when i saw the girl fell back. The part when AMBER appeared behind the girl was a good part. But was kinda ruined when girl talked xD. A- for a cool story, C+ for acting, A+ for eeriness. All in all B+ Good job
Thank you. This film was definitely a learning experience. A mean, yeah, this isn't great, but I am proud of it. I thank you for being honest and respectful. I hope you view my other short films and comment on them. Let me know what you think.
A few decent shots- 1:56, 2:50 (most professional looking part- her walking down stairwell) and 4:20ish. One funny thing- the ghost was sort of like an annoying teenager whining to her parents. She didn't seem to have any actual power to harm, which made her unscary. Anyways, keep at it- don't be discouraged by critics for trying- that's the best any of us can do.
Thank you. Trust me, I haven't given up making films. I've shot three short films since this one. I hope you go check them out. I think I've improved a lot since then. But go take a look and let me know what you think.
The acting is alright for a student production - I've seen worse acting on telly! The film in itself was alright as well considering the budget and time constraints.
okay it could have actually been okay if you got better actors I mean the main person was HORRIBLE at acting, sorry, but it's true, and the talking to the dead girl was a little cheesy.
Yea the acting was an issue but the whole thing was shot mostly over a weeks time. I helped with the production, and yea the acting isn't Oscar worthy but its something both the creator and myself have learned from, also for anyone interested the same guy and me are working on a film now, auditions will be nov 15 and 16 at SUNY Purchase, contant me or the creator for more details, dont like the acting then help us with the next one.
I just uploaded the video uncompressed, which increased the upload time a quite a bit, but was worth it for the better visual presentation. Other than that, I didn't really do anything special with the settings. I'm not sure if that helps you or not, but that's basically all I did.
Thanks for standing up for me, Whyavier, I appreciate it. But it's okay, directthis is entitled to his opinion and that's cool. It comes with the territory. But it means a lot to me that you covered my back anyway. Thank you.
wow. I have to say that i have in fact seen worse. but i think the thing that brought it down was the acting. I wish the ghost was more believable as a ghost the camera was on her for too long and gave her a more real and less scary character.
Very sorry but i think if you try a little harder you can achieve a much better finished product.
mad creepy. i know purchase well, as a former dw myself.... and im glad someone finally utilized how freaking creepy the entire place is. really slick with the music, the cinematography was great.

couldnt believe that someone wasnt afraid of ghosts...:| it was unrealistic... but good script, but it wasnt real....:)

@rafaelliization
uhhhh
some people don't believe in ghosts
therefore, they are not afraid of them
it's completely realistic.
and why did you feel the need to say "but it wasn't real"? it's not even presented as real.
