  • As macabre as these lyrics, I feel strangely lulled by this music, and it's not because it's slow.

Could be 'cause it's 4AM, but I'd rather go with the fact that it's great music.

  • psychodelic lyrics and absolutly insane music this is the quality we should keep for our ears, and not the bullshit which the labels want to sell to us!!!

  • this kind of sounds like something NIRVANA would ahve done : ) I like

  • @niamh2739 No.

  • this song gives me goose bumps :')

  • @WO0D5A me too :D

  • their stairway

  • SUMMER OF 2006!

  • Why is the second highest rated comment one of the worst backhanded compliments I've ever seen? The people who have given it a thumbs up are dumb motherfuckers. This song would be awesomely impressive if anyone else wrote it, but for QOTSA it's just them being bad ass as always!

  • @scootaymildo I diden't interperate that comment as a insult, rather the opposite. I think he is pointing out that this is so far out of their genre, that it shows their wide specter of creative ability. But then again.. How should i know

  • @Tullebananen Maybe your right and I've interpreted wrong but "quite impressive for a band like QOTSA" seems like a rather unflattering review in my opinion, kinda sounds like he's saying fair enough QOTSA have actually done an OK song

  • Fantastic song, reminds me of some of the softer Acid Bath stuff, especially The Bones Of Baby Dolls

  • i could die to this song

  • showing love. this song is beyond.

  • End of the Year type of music, can go both ways for the end of life as well

  • Such a fantastic song.....love from Greece :)

  • my funeral song :)

  • <3 mosquito song

  • best song ever !!!!

  • Linda musica

em momentos depressivos ela se encaixa bem ):

  • One of the most beautiful songs ever written, John is a pure genius.

  • che merda

  • YEa Deaner!!!

  • I Know, I know the sun is hot Mosquitoes come to suck your blood Leave you there all alone Just skin and bone When you walk among the trees Listening to the leaves The further I go the less I know The less I know Where will you run? Where will you hide? Lullabies to paralyze
  • Grew up on this album, fewkin' class

  • Chicken skin music!

  • @muggetje2006 FUCK YEA

  • Tim burton needs to use this song. Period.

  • This song scares me more than anything by Marilyn Manson.

  • I really doubt this song is about animal rights. No way. That's just not their style.

  • Queens of the Stone Age can do anything! Keep on killing

  • Is it just me or does this song sound a lot like Acid Bath's "Bones of Baby Dolls?"

  • @lateralaenima987 Weeeeird, you're right, there is a similarity.

  • Anybody know where I should go look for music that sounds like what you hear from 2:20? Not necesarrily that creepishly sad but alike. I also like some of Yann Tiersen's stuff...

  • That's life.

  • It's not about cannibalism, it's not about vegetarianism. It's not even about mosquitoes.

Songs for the Deaf is a concept album about mainstream/radio music. It relates to the music industry more than anything else. It's shocking and depressing that so many people have so little understanding of metaphors.

  • @XLVIetII I liked it so much better when I believed the song was about cannibalism. O.o

  • @FromWishingDreams Yeah, it's about cannibalism. Kind of obvious, don't see why anybody would say otherwise.

  • @StudioScarecrow Some people just see too much into things, I guess. Either way, it's still an amazing song and surprising considering the rest of the bands songs.

  • My science teacher recommended this song for me to listen to. I must thank him!

  • @fabrix36 I know, but usually the lyrics are about something. I'm not saying I'm 100% right cos who knos what Josh was thinking when he wrote these lyrics but from my point of view I do still think it's about eating meat/vegetarianism. But I agree, it's a very beatiful song.

  • This song is obviously about eating meat. Josh Homme is vegetarian and I think

"Fat and soft, pink and weak

Foot and thigh, tongue and cheek

You know I'm told they swallow you whole

    Skin and bone

    Cutting boards and hanging hooks

    Bloody knives, cooking books

Promising you won't feel a thing

    At all"

is quite clear. I think he's putting people to the same position as the animals that are killed and consumed every day.

  • @aikkul Or maybe he's a fucking mosquito?

  • Comment removed

  • @aikkul probably just a beautiful song. a song is never just "about". anything

  • @aikkul Josh is not a vegetarian.

you just gotta watch him on the No Reservations show to know that :P

  • I kinda get the feeling like the song is about the passage of time and the inevitability of aging.

Either that or I'm looking too much into it, and it's about cannibalism.

  • A gem of a song, a little masterpiece, an unmatched beauty, a rarity among mainstream rock tracks. It's all this and much more. Ladies and gentlemen, bow to the genious of QotSA.

  • @Left2GameLTU damn that's clever, whether you copied it from another video or not. :)

  • @Left2GameLTU

    haha, u thumb whore

  • @meatpuppetsucd Totally ;D

  • this is their only good song.... it sounds so differently to their other ones, they are so fucking metal..

  • @siebenny It's called stoner rock, which sounds exactly like what a rock grabbed from the Arizona desert would sound like if you turned it into sound. Pure, desert rock, be it in a energetic metal way, or a country song like this one.

  • It's quite impressive for a band like qotsa to create a song like this.

  • @dinadantj all their songs are impressive

  • @Levente20 I agree, but I'm glad to see that they can range from metal to classical.

  • The beginning reminds me the song "Heart Shaped Box" by Nirvana..? Anyway, the song's great..!! QOTSA!!! <3

  • Honestly why is this song not massive? I honestly think it's one of my favourites.

  • @kale11111 because people dont appreciate/understand good music like this nowadays.

i know i sound like an old man but i'm only 14 and this music is just amazing and takes a much more skilled artist to think of this

  • " MALDITOS MOSQUITOS "

  • The lirics are so meaningfull and deep...And i thougt that Make it wit chu is good

  • Shit son, this song is sick.

  • mosquitos meditacion! =´,=

  • Damn, this song is to short.

  • <3 Such amazing lyrics, melody, everything... So amazing.

  • @MelodicMonstrosity indeed,the song is magical!!!

  • sounds like he's talking about zombies

  • QOTSA rule

  • i first listened to this in sommer 2005, full of some opioid-based medicine i took because of toothaches...."this is melancholy" ^^

  • now this is music...one of their best songs

  • is a genious

  • This guy its a genious...

  • i wasnt really a fan of Queens of the Stone Age.... untill i heard this song.

  • Amazing musicians, amazing band, real fucking music :)

  • love this song

  • fucked up

  • 18 peops prefer listening to bieber

  • This song makes me hungry.

  • cookin books the black kids never wanted to read em

  • this helped me write draculas song for the voodoo pistols

  • I'm gonna playing it at my funeral, ahah! :-D

  • This is the perfect song!

  • isn't it, "and the knife says"?

  • great song!

  • We are all blood donors in the end

  • @tuberider007 how?!

  • this is fuckin the most beutiful song ever created : D

  • This song never fails to give me chills. Bands that can be this musical and intelligent about writing a song will always have my support because that intelligence is obviously going to show in their other songs no matter how screamy or heavy (etc.) they are. This song and Six Shooter (polar opposite songs right?) clinched this album for me right from the start.

  • @AmbientSoundz my thoughts exactly

  • This song reminds me of Elvis Costello - I want You and the Beatles - Ealanor Rigby

  • @knetterwauz010 funny, my bf said it reminded him of the Eagles

  • pretty sure its "And the knife says" not "and the light says" in the lyrics

  • i hate people that care if the song is too mainstream or not mainstream. Just listen to the song. It's queens of the god damn stone age, shut up and listen :)

  • this is the best shit ever. reminds a bit of old western times.

  • LEAVE THE POOR MOSQUITO ALONE! Just kidding, I love this song ^-^.

  • @FredrickTesla Thank you. My friends are always trying to say that I'm trying to be too cool to like their Pop songs, but the truth is, I don't hate it all, and I've sure as hell given them more than one chance. I just don't like them. I listen to Blues, Rock, Metal, Jazz, Alternative, Whatever the hell Norah Jones is. I do however get pissed off when they try to preach to me that the pop artists are so amazingly talented. No.

  • aaaaaah and these 16 misvotes are from the killed mosquitos

  • Brings back lost memories .... Believe in a better world ^^

  • 0foofighter0 is the f'in man!!!!!!

  • My favorite part of this song... "And the light says... *smallest violin solo ever*"

  • Does anyone else hear Instant Acid Bath in this?

  • @NintendoDevil Definatly :)

  • @coesify, na, i'd say ur right i mean come on, "eat you alive" "so you scream yell and whine" to me definitely sounds like eating someone while their still alive. Maybe one limb or piece at a time. Quite quaintly evil. I'm glad it's so open to interpretation and a lot of people seem to take so many different things from it, but thats my 2 cents. I think some folks might be over analyzing a little, but either way, ain't great music fun to think about =-)

    @charliejason21

    lol, yes, you are correct

  • Another QOTSA classic. Beautifully demonic in my book. Excellent track, Godamn!! I love it!

    &

    @KAsnuja

Yes it is! Wow. For as long as I've been listening to this album (since 2005) and didn't know that, it astonishes me. I just thought it was a bitchin' devil spear, didn't know it was actually modeled after the ceremonial one they used to poke jesus! mwhahaah!

  • This should have been in Red Dead Redemption. End credits FTW or what?!

  • @JVDK1000 HA! Good call my friend!

  • @JVDK1000 fuck ya it should of ben

  • @JVDK1000 That's exactly what I was thinking bout!

  • @JVDK1000 what are you talking about?

  • He sings '...bloody knives...' so tenderly.

  • it's not about what rocks looks like, i'm trying to say that rock style is the greatest style the coolest the manliest but its not about that its about what the music transmits you, if you value diversity, creativity, complexity, meaning and synergy you will like qotsa cause those qualitys are what separates good quality rock bands from bad rock bands.

  • listen to Pink Floyd wish you were here do you hear anything similar?

  • @CyoteTheKid96 nope nothing

  • is it just me or that's a Lance of Longinus on the cover?

  • @KAsnuja XD Awesome

  • part of the song reminds me of the office lol

  • how i love this

  • Id be gutted if i heard this song on some shit tv show like dexter.

  • Great new tunes!!

Call the shots tonight and Lizzard Dreams..

    Mattias Karpov @ myspace

  • i thought it was about cannibalism but maybe im not reading between the lines.

  • @coesify My take is that it's about the Food industry. Cattle in particular.

  • Brilliant song. Probably the best on the album.

  • Dean Ween on guitar on this one....how can you go wrong? Great tune.

  • know, I know the sun is hot

    Mosquitos come suck your blood

    Leave you there all alone

    Just skin and bone

When you walk among the trees

    Listening to the leaves

The further I go the less I know

    The less I know

    ..heroin.

  • swallow and cheeeew

    eaaat you aliiiiiveee!

all of us food that hasn't died

...love this song! sounds like a pirate song AAARGH!

  • This isn't about cannibalism, it's about animals. Look at the lyrics. it talks about being outside, in the wild. And plus, it talks about cook books. Why would cook books refer to eating humans?

  • @charliejason21 It is about cannibalism. Every animal in the world is guilty of cannibalism especially humans and who else would write a cook book on it.

  • @strobelbobby u idiot, cannibalism is when u eat ur own kind. humans eating humans and dogs eating dogs etc.

  • @chapinguy if you read it that's what i said you f'n twit, your mother should have practiced it 35 years ago

  • @chapinguy I'm pretty sure the song is about metaphorical cannibalism, not actual real life cannibalism, but still cannibalism either way.

  • I think I'm in love with whoever is singing this song.

  • @pennydesouza joshua tree

  • @pennydesouza joshua homme

  • desert folk

  • Lil wayne owns this.... nah jk he sucks ass, these guys fucking own

  • This reminds me of Lord of the Flies...

  • bessst song

other you think i aint worth a dollar but i feel like a million

  • the guitar reminds of the opening to one

  • Mainstream shouldn't be called garbage automatically. Don't fall for the pretentious idea that only Indy music is good. Some "Indy" bands are called that just cause they're not good enough to get a following of any kind. Don't hate bands just cause your friends or people you know hate them. Listen to all kinds of music, give every song at least one chance. And if that song just rubs you the wrong way, then you're hating it for the right reason.

  • @FredrickTesla

I'm starting to believe in humanity again! Intelligent people on the web!

(not to mention, that most of the underground music becomes mainstream in some way sooner or later).

  • @Nothization not necessarily, apparently you have never heard an auteur by the name of Steve Albini and his underground exploits.

  • @Nothization actually very little underground music is ever accepted by the mainstream

  • @FredrickTesla You said exacly what i feel about it man kudos to You :)

  • @FredrickTesla lol the idea that only indie is good? which friggin muppet came up with that, and i wholly agree with your message sir, i like most kinds of music and i dont give a shit if my mates dnt like it, I AM ME!

  • @FredrickTesla actually people should write off mainstream of this generation because for one they are sheeple that are selling out and doing what shit record producers are telling them to do and they end up garbage. That is totally wrong about indie bands. Most dont have big followings because, 1. they dont want to become big and sell out, and 2. they play to enjoy themselves and do little gigs all over the country just because they enjoy being musicians and dont care about money. case closed

  • @Mcghi3 This is pretty much exactly what I was talking about when I said pretentious. There are no less than a dozen indie bands sprouting up every year in the town I live in and typically only one out of all of them isn't pathetic. They all have the same unfinished sound with forced political/belligerent lyrics and they're all convinced that it makes them unique and edgy. They just come off as puerile, trying desperately to mimic bands that stopped being relevant or enjoyable over 20 years ago.

  • @FredrickTesla No they just do it because they live and breath music unlike the bands that make music to get famous and rich, wtf ? If you have a trade enjoy it and if it eventually makes you money then cool but dont play to become something thats what wrong with music today. Also I know the type of bands you are talking about, the ones about my area dont sing about political issues, they have decent lyrics and have there songs recorded and mastered and actually have a unique style

  • @Mcghi3 Roger Daltrey of The Who said that becoming famous was the main reason they formed the band in the first place, and they're responsible for some of the most groundbreaking and artistic applications of music the world has ever seen. Linkin Park is one of the most corporately developed bands in the world, and their last album is a musical experiment most bands wouldn't even have the balls to submit for approval. Being Indy doesn't mean it's good, and being corporate doesn't mean it's bad.

  • @FredrickTesla Yeah I know :) but I dont mean corprate as in bands I mean mainstream music like all this RnB and raping over club track and all that pop crap, thats what I mean by mainstream music. Bands are ok mainstream though they tend to not become the same all the time and become cheesy

  • @FredrickTesla Wow, its so refreshing to see people with the right take on music!

  • @FredrickTesla exactly what im doing i like scream so i naturally dont like this song lol
