I worked at a Petco as a small animal specialist... and still had to catch fish from time to time. Its not easy and she isnt required to knew everything about every department. This video of her struggling is far from helpful and pretty rude actually. Not to mention filming an employee and the animals in the store like this is against policy without permission. Your lucky they didnt catch you.

Yeah my first week in PetCare i was being taught how to catch a bird safely for a customer, and a guy was harrassing me and started recording so my manager kicked him out. (: YAYY for ignorant people getting what they deserve. Now it's two year later and if i see something like this happening i'm definitley kicking them out. A sale isn't worth being treated like this.

Oh my god, one time this man asked me to catch a very specific little fish in a tank with at least six or seven others, and it took me forever.

It was also my first day in Pet Care, and the first time I EVER caught a fish.

Thank gah I'm a dog trainer now, instead (and I do a much better job at it. :P).

I always take 5 minutes to catch my Cory Catfish... little buggers swim like hell and jump out of the water when they are alerted to danger! For such fast swimming fish, I recommend use a large net (small nets are hard because the fish KNOW its an enclosure that will trap them and consciously avoid it). Then gently place the net directly behind the fish. Then give a gentle tap on the glass, the fish will swim in the opposite direction into the big net. Scoop.

I can catch them really quickly now, since I do it 1000 Xs a day, however I can still remember when I first started. I once spent 30 minutes trying to catch a cichlid. Everyone starts out slow, it takes LOTS of practice to improve.

Seriously, give the gal a break. You don't even know if this is her normal department. For instance, I work for PetSmart as a dog trainer, but I sometimes get called to help out on the fish wall. I'm not the best at catching fish, especially if they're quick and/or a customer wants a specific fish [you try catching one specific neon tetra].

PetSmart, unlike some other companies, cross-trains most of its employees, but not all of us are as good as those who work everyday in a certain department.

when catching a fish at petsmart, we dont want to stress the fish out, so when we do bag the fish the fish isnt dead. If the assocaite is taking too long, ask them to take the ornaments out, its easier to catch the fish...Just remember at petsmart we want you to walk away with a healthy happy fish, not a dying one.

I, too, work at PetSmart. Catching some fish can actually be pretty tough. This is very insensetive . and as petcare associates, we are not allowed to wear perfume or lotions on our hands and we rinse them well after washing them.
