That's incredible. I was wondering what he deadlifts and benches. Just because I'm interested in what kind of carryover that kind of lat strength would give to someone in powerlifting. Again huge props to your teammate
@DrAlexisOlson that's incredible because i also am 180 cm and 70-71 kg(155 lbs) but i don't look as muscular as he does, i can't do a 1-arm chin-up even with only my weight and my body fat is about 11% so... what's his secret? i was expecting him to be either shorter or heavier to have more muscle.... Now if I were to swap my arms with my feet i could probably do a few like he does :)
Watching this video I was like "Fuck that gym looks familiar.", then I read in your description that he's on the TAMU Gymnastics team and I workout at the rec everyday. Nice chin-up though, I can barley do 5 with both hands, lol.
LMAO! What an idiot, it's not a "chin up" if you have to tilt your head up and stick your chin out to get your head near the bar. lmfao. put down the extra weight that you clearly can't handle pussy.
dont want to sound negative because this is great but you should hang the weight from your waist. You are cheating by holding it in your other hand and thrusting it up with your other bicep
@eamonob84 Do alot of uneven pullups, or assisted 1 arm pullups with a towel, those will really help towards you getting the oac. Try to do the negatives 2 it's best if you can control your descent for about 5 seconds, 8 seconds would be best though before you start really training the negatives
I wasn't trying to devalue your friend's strength simply saying my opinion through my experience with the skill, just click on my name to see my training with it. I can't do one yet but I can pull from a 1/4 hang, from lockout still feels far away. The reason I said I think it would at A or B was because my front lever and one arm chinup feel to be at about the same level, I am in no way saying that this is the iron rule. Although I trained the one armer longer than the front lever I believe.
@typhoon535 Like I said, there is not a much correlation between OAC strength and gymnastics strength so it's difficult to compare. Plenty of guys on our team can do crosses (and better), but Michael is the only one who can do the OAC.
That kind of strength is not often trained for specifically except by arm wrestlers, rock climbers, and such. Perhaps if gymnasts trained for OACs, it would be much more common and be valued at a B or so.
P.S. IMO a front lever is one of the more difficult A's.
Btw mine is simply my assessment and experience with the skill, I'd be glad to hear your input on where you think the OAC would rank amongst gymnastic exercises.
To put a OAC as an A is rather absurd. A value skill are things like an L hold, lever holds, or a bent arm press to handstand. Almost any competent gymnast can do these. B value strength skills such as a cross are also very common.
It is quite hard to compare since a OAC is so different, but I would probably evaluate it around a C and put the OAC + 35 lbs in the D (or possibly E) range.
@typhoon535 The problem is most high-valued gymnastic strength moves are straight arm pushing or pulling exercises which use muscle groups in quite differently than a OAC.
It is quite possible for someone who can do a OAC + weight to not be able to do practically any valued gymnastics strength moves. Likewise, even world class rings specialists aren't necessarily capable of a OAC (probably are though), much less a OAC + 35 lbs (probably are not without specifically training for it).
Don't know about stupid numbers like only 10 or 1 in whatever but this is a good feat regardless. The problem with this move is that people either tend to downplay it (no idea how hard this is) or overplay it (it isn't the epitomy of upper body pulling exercises). If say it was in the code of points for gymnastic work it would be an A without weight or a B at most but that would be a stretch. Gymnastic work goes all the way to E to put things into perspective.
@typhoon535 Actually gymnastics skill go all the way to F and G these days. (An example of an F strength move would be a back lever, pull to Maltese or a front uprise to Victorian.)
I don't really know for sure about the exact numbers either, but it's a highly specialized skill which most people don't work. If you Google "one arm chin up records", you will find that a OAC + 35 lbs is near the lower range of historical records, so I'm guessing there aren't too many people in the world better.
@MrJimmyjonesjr Lol. It would be way more trouble to fake it than it would be worth. You think I would bother to make a fake plate, set up cables, edit out said cables perfectly, etc. etc. just to put something up on YouTube? Also, if I were to fake it, why would I stick with 35 lbs instead of faking a world record?
wow nice, In my youth I could do one arm chins..miss them days, never thought about adding crazy weight like that..I can still do regular chins w/ my 10year sitting on my legs..just need to post the vid before i'm too grey to try :) great job..
lol love how the people around you dont even pay any attention as though its completely normal to do OAC with 35 extra pounds... people have no idea how hard these are lmao
@13andincrediblycut If that's true, then you are a ridiculously strong 13 year old. Keep at it and when you get to be his age, you'll be an absolute beast.
@DrAlexisOlson educated? what are you basing your facts off? how high you can count? and im not trash talking im just wondering so dont pull that crap and try to turn it around
@AdangerousRETARD Not facts, just guesses based on what I've seen and read. I've done some research, but it's possible that I'm off by an order of magnitude.
I'm curious as to why you are so skeptical. Do you have good reason (maybe you see people do this all the time) or do you just insult people without knowing what you're talking about?
well if you know tony horton. "The Godfather." and you know what exercise progam he does(p90x) then you will see that there are plenty of people that can pull up more than their body weight. just sayin.
@NickDaSlick69 You do realize that this is with one arm, right?
Anyone who is reasonably strong should be able to chin more than their bodyweight with two arms, but just a single one arm chin up at bodyweight is quite an accomplishment.
If there really are plenty of people who can match this, you shouldn't have too much trouble finding video of it. Let me know if you do.
@NickDaSlick69 It's not a matter of how "built" he is, it's a matter of strength relative to bodyweight. How many athletes do you actually know that can do a one arm chin without any extra weight?
There are tons of people stronger than he is at plenty of things, but for this particular movement there are very few.
thats amazing. i hear its one in 100,000 people that can do a one arm chin up alone without even 35 added lbs. this is probably the best chinup strength ive seen, so good job
Also to all the people commenting on "form"... C'mon are you serious, do you realize how hard this REALLY is, I can feel a difference when I am wearing shoes let alone 2, 5, 10, and 30 pounds. This feels exponentially harder when you are ACTUALLY doing them. Think I'm talking out of my ass and you can check my videos. This guy is world-class strong, period.
Man, I felt super proud of my one-arm plus 30 lbs. then I saw this video literally the next day. Now I am gonna have to step up my game, thanks for the motivation! Good to see a fellow gymnast pushing the limit of what's humanly possible.
@DrAlexisOlson He looks like he jumps slightly from the bottom, but it's hard to tell. But as an arm wrestler, it really doesn't matter. If possible though, I'd love to see a video of him starting from a deadhang.
@Iferwoman This is no joke. I bet fewer than 10 people in the world can do this.
