Hi! Nice Flying skills. Hope you were able to repair it. I got myself the same plane and I'll have the first flight soon. The plane looks a little bit fast in the videos I saw of it so far. I'll put a Hyperion engine in, it's lighter then the Hacker but it's got less power... Can you give any recommandations for the maiden flight?
It looks like a brain fail ! XD ... but I read the description 'am sorry for you dude, its always bad when someone crash a so beautiful model, hope it still flies well after repair ! ;)
I'll I am saying is some other of my planes would have pitched right into a harrier from that altitude after that dive. I had a brain fart (or dumb thumbs if you want to call it that) forgetting that the EF extra needs a lot more throttle to pitch the nose up into a harrier. It was just me forgetting which plane I was flying. But if you can't tell the difference in pitch behavior between your 71" slick and your EF Extra, then I question your judgement. On a side note, you have some nice videos.
Sorry Matt....after watching the video again it looks like a "brain fart" moment! Nothing more! I understand what your trying to say about the bigger aircraft having different "pitch" sensitivity. I routinely fly at our club A DW Foamy 48' Yak , 3DHS 48'SHP , 78" EF Extra, EF 50cc Edge, and a 110" EF Yak all in the same day! They all rotate and behave differently in pattern and 3D. Don't want to piss u off....just calling the video as I see it!. I've had a few dumb shit moments...we all have.
I just upgraded to this 78' EF Extra from the 71" 3DHS Slick. I had a lot more flights on the Slick before I sold it then I do the EF Extra. I really don't have any idea what your talking about with the airflow over the tail comment. I know you said you dumb thumbed it...but it looks like you slipped and just pushed the plane in! IMHO. BTW...nice flying skills!
The 70" slick (and 71" slick for that matter) is much more pitch sensitive then the longer 78" EF extra. That's great for 3D, not so great for precision. So dive both planes and see how much throttle you need to apply to get the nose to pitch up into a high alpha harrier. If both planes are suitable overpowered, the slick will do it in about 1/4 throttle and the EF extra will need half throttle or maybe even more to pitch up into the harrier.
Not sure about that Power 160. Just go by what EF recommends. Hackers and Scorpions tend to have the best power out there. The Scorpion 5030 F3A motor has a ton of power on this plane. Just get 2 5s 4000 or 5000mah packs (for 10S) and you will be good to go. If you get the gas version of the extra, the DLE 30 is pretty decent as well.
Scorpion 5030 F3A motor with the Hacker cage mount. It's a awesome, smooth motor with tons of power, just wish it could be rear mounted. Running it with a 21x10 xoar prop.
Nice flying and glad it is repairable. Lost my EF Yak 54 88" with 60cc gas engine :( but just got a NEW EF Extra 300 that I am building now and hope to maiden soon....
Thanks for sharing.

okay when u went straight 90 degrees ... after that it looked like it was falling/stalled and u recovered the altitude and everything .. or was that a trick =/
@gibbon21121995 I don't think 8kg servos will cut it. I am flying with HS-985's in the ailerons and they are 12kg at 6v and they are being blown back on high speed rolls. I really need to upgrade them to something stronger. 8kg torque servos will have a really hard time holding the ailerons. They might work on the elevator halves, but I would still recommend something stronger. The 24kg servo will be plenty for the rudder though.
Wow that was AWESOME Flying. I really like this plane a lot and wil have an opportunity to get one in a few months. Let me ask you, those side pieces on the Wing,,are they necessary to Fly? and what purpose do they serve.
@rhampton1914 They are called side force generators (SFG's) and they effectively add to the side area of the plane. The result of this is that the rudder is more effective, meaning that it takes less rudder to hold a knife edge and can do much tighter knife edge loops. They also slightly help stabilize the wing in a harrier so there is less wing rock by disrupting the airflow at the wings tip and forcing it backwards. They are not necessary, but it fun to try them out.
Read the description of the video, I talk about why it crashed. It was all dumb thumbs and not being comfortable with the planes behavior. This plane is slower to rotate then planes I was used to and requires a whole lot more throttle to get it to rotate. So a little dip before popping it into a harrier like I did with my 70" Slick, ended up dropping it into the grass instead.
Sorry I missed this comment earlier. The TX Tray is buy a guy named Jerry and he sells them if you email him. His email address is jericojc@comcast.net and the tray is called the flight pad. I bought mine directly from him, but he sold some into a local hobby store here in the bay area now. They go for around $50 including the strap and the newest models are a universal fit where the older ones like I have are only for specific models (DX7/9303).

How do you think an eflite power 160 will work?? I want to build this plane...leaning more towards electric than a 30cc. How do you like it ??

Great flying,
are 8 kg servo's enough on ailerons and elevater and 24 kg on rudder?
