The U.S. Supreme court has ruled in the past that farmers who choose not to farm affect interstate commerce. @19mafia84 well it wouldn't really be "enslaving" if all they're doing is requiring them to actually learn how to professionally operate a tractor and other various farm equipment to its most efficient potential. this means 10 year old Tanner Brianson can operate heavy machinery and he needs to be a certain age to do so. Statistics for the gut reaction crowd.. It's bad enough there are so many farm accidents involving the young and old alike. Just look at the osha reports on farm fatalities.
I don't know of any reports on accidents using heavy farm equipment, and if I did I wouldn't remember. Point is, if there isn't a problem then there's nothing to fix. Is there a point to this? Drivers license are obvious, even those who passed the test still drive irresponsibly and crash. But you're not driving in traffic with farm equipment.
Since farm equipment is technically heavy equipment, licensing doesn't seem like a bad idea. I'm not a farmer though, and I don't know anything about it. How would this destroy family farming? It seems like disgruntled farmers would be the only negative outcome, much like disgruntled construction workers when they were first required to wear hardhats.

Most training is offshore, in fact i think you need x amount of hours on a vessel( which can be logged while on the job) before you can apply for your A.B., mechanic, 100 ton, 200 ton, 500 ton, or unl. licensing. If they are going to require licensing for farmers, maybe they could do something similar.

Mostly just huge corporate farms left. which by the way are not very green or organic. whenever you pack that many animals into a small area you are gonna have air quality violations and animals heavily medicated to prevent disease. not to mention poor quality of life for the animals. A CDL is NOT required for "Farm Equipment". They want farm drivers who operate Truck/Tractors and trucks over 26,001 lbs to have a CDL just like all the other drivers on the road. Its simply about safety! Would you get on an airplane that was being piloted by a non-licensed piolt? Then why do you feel it is safe for farm drivers to operate big trucks on our roads without being properly trained and licensed when our our families lives at stake?

This law would be deserving of civil disobedience. How would the government effectively enforce these requirements? I suspect that this is the malicious intent of corporate interests lobbying in an attemp to gain control of what's left of the agricultural markets. If they can't use anti-trust actions they will regulate competiton out of the market and force them to sell their operations and land at a lower price. I'd recommend some law research, find out who proposed it and who's funding it.

Actually. licenses are issued by states, NOT the Federal government. The Arkansas States drivers handbook specifically states that husbandry equipment DOES NOT require a driver's license of any kind, even on state highways. At least it did when I took Driver's ed in the 1980's The Federal Government has no jurisdiction unless interstate commerce is involved, and that is not the case here. Any attempt to do would result in a revolt in even the bluest of blue states.

This is indeed so wrong. A CDL to work on ones farm? Wow now those who wish to control all are going to far. Farmers are those who help the world and not some bureaucrat who knows nothing of feeding the world but taking there money for mostly petty political promises to corporate dogs. I may have never lived on a farm but my Mom who was born in Chicago did for the most of her childhood lived on a farm in Southern Illinois. The Federal Government can regulate farming in the interest of regulating Interstate commerce. Farming products produced in one state can a,ffect a neighoring state or states. The U.S. Supreme court has ruled in the past that farmers who choose not to farm affect interstate commerce. So yes, the U.S. Government can, and does regulate farming through the Department of Arigiculture.

I don't know of any reports on accidents using heavy farm equipment, and if I did I wouldn't remember. Point is, if there isn't a problem then there's nothing to fix. Is there a point to this? Drivers license are obvious, even those who passed the test still drive irresponsibly and crash. But you're not driving in traffic with farm equipment.

Since farm equipment is technically heavy equipment, licensing doesn't seem like a bad idea. I'm not a farmer though, and I don't know anything about it. How would this destroy family farming? It seems like disgruntled farmers would be the only negative outcome, much like disgruntled construction workers when they were first required to wear hardhats.

@tdr124 From what I understand for the different degrees of maritime licensing you don't need expensive schools or anything. Most training is offshore, in fact i think you need x amount of hours on a vessel( which can be logged while on the job) before you can apply for your A.B., mechanic, 100 ton, 200 ton, 500 ton, or unl. licensing. If they are going to require licensing for farmers, maybe they could do something similar.

Their 18 wheelers packed full of grain and their giant combines tear the hell out of the roads and many of the grain truck drivers speed and drive like idiots. Well I have to say the family farm has been on it's way out since the 80s. Mostly just huge corporate farms left. which by the way are not very green or organic. whenever you pack that many animals into a small area you are gonna have air quality violations and animals heavily medicated to prevent disease. not to mention poor quality of life for the animals. A CDL is NOT required for "Farm Equipment". They want farm drivers who operate Truck/Tractors and trucks over 26,001 lbs to have a CDL just like all the other drivers on the road. Its simply about safety! Would you get on an airplane that was being piloted by a non-licensed piolt? Then why do you feel it is safe for farm drivers to operate big trucks on our roads without being properly trained and licensed when our our families lives at stake?

@ftsmallwood A "Big Truck/18 Wheeler" by defintion is a "Tractor." The purposed regulation does not, will not, and never included a tractor you plow a field or mow your lawn with! Farmers haul their own grain in big trucks---this is what is meant by "Farm Tractor." I can assure you I know what I am talking about. This law would be deserving of civil disobedience. How would the government effectively enforce these requirements? I suspect that this is the malicious intent of corporate interests lobbying in an attemp to gain control of what's left of the agricultural markets. If they can't use anti-trust actions they will regulate competiton out of the market and force them to sell their operations and land at a lower price. I'd recommend some law research, find out who proposed it and who's funding it.

The Arkansas States drivers handbook specifically states that husbandry equipment DOES NOT require a driver's license of any kind, even on state highways. At least it did when I took Driver's ed in the 1980's The Federal Government has no jurisdiction unless interstate commerce is involved, and that is not the case here. Any attempt to do would result in a revolt in even the bluest of blue states.

NOWHERE does the Constitution give the government the right to regulate who you rent to or even who you allow to shop in your store or restaurant!! the "Civll Rights" laws when aimed at PRIVATE CITIZENS are not constitutional!!

If I tried to rent a house from a Muslim and he refused because he didn't want me praying to Jesus I would respect his beliefs and look for another house! WHY are liberals so PUSHY and so ready to violate the constitutional rights of others?
