  • There's a little corn in all of us...CORN BLESS YOU ALL!

  • Comment removed

  • we are fucked

  • this looks corny

  • @ozkaa LOL.. really. i did.

  • Its the KING. No, I'm not talking about Elvis. One Word.

    Corn

  • somebody should probably tell that guy in the first 10 seconds that playing on grain is a major safety hazard. just a heads up for the next time he decides to slide down a pile of corn. easy way to fall through and suffocate. so PLEASE don't try to do that.

  • it kind of pisses me off that they feed cows corn, yeah i know their gonna die soon but they suffer until then... seriously, how fucken expensive is grass?

  • @RexTheCyberdog really expensive. To finish out a steer on grass takes twice as long as it does in a feed lot. to have enough grass to finish an animal means big acres. to have money invested in that animal for 2 years before you see any revenue from its is a huge financial risk. Land is not cheap. land that can produce alot of grass is really expensive. it is too expensive to be just grazing cattle on. Just finishing cattle on land with that much value will bankrupt you real quick

  • @gwk78 grass fed can be done. Polyface farms is the best example of that, it is a big operation that has lots of organic food. you bring up alot of good points though, but the main problem is government policy. if corn wasnt subsidized and organic farming was or some sort of next generation farm bill than things would change very quicky since farming corn isnt even profitable without government aid.

  • corn info that this video forgot to speak of,

one seed of corn, in 4 months can make an ear of corn that contains 600 seeds.

A single ear of corn is nearly a years supply of food, medicine and weapons.

for if you plant that 600 seeds in your yard, that will give you two ears of corn then a day for the next year, putting food on the table, and the corn cob can make jelly and the silk is medicine and the stock makes better blow guns than bamboo.

with many dozens of tools. (donze52)

  • One of the problems with America is that this video clip, as of Feb. 9, 2011 has only had 124,000 views on YouTube, and yet the latest gossip on Britney, Lindsay, etc. videos have over a million views. It's more than corn that is making Americans obese, lethargic and preferring low-brow entertainment over educational, enlightening content. Perhaps I need to rent a charter bus(bio-fueled?) and take some of these people corny folks to film festivals so they might open their eyes a wee bit more?

  • that corn dive looks so much fun!!!!

  • Dont plant monoculture. IF one crop fails to yield you should have several other varieties and that would be a better guarentee of having at least a good yield if one fails.

  • @lisakaylanemorris - Do you know of any farmer who doesn't plant several varieties every year?

    I don't.

    Les

  • Decent film told by some very lame filmmakers. Food inc was MUCH better. This was a major snooze fest. Could have been edited down to 35 mins.

  • I have to agree that the new diets of people today are causing the boom in obesity. However, everyone that posts on pages like this forget one small detail; the new lifestyle that has come with the new diet. If you consume a lot of sugar or corn syrup, and then sit inside all day playing X-Box, you are going to put on weight. If you watch what you eat and spend time outside, you stay healthy.

  • @kfordudflight I agree, our diet is bad. But our exercise is worse. Have you ever seen a fat person who swims laps every day? idc how much you eat, or what you eat. If you are running every day, or exercising, you will not get fat.

  • This is main stream crap of a documentary... It does not address the negative side effects of GMO corn... Corn syrup is mind control through David Icke's Hive Mind theory.

  • @cawapo tinfoil beard

  • "Subsidized crop" Pollan "subsidized corn" But subsidies don't cause the cheap priced corn where US deliberately loses money on exports, they result from it, to quiet down farmers, to partially compensate for the free market failures, losses. So getting rid of subsidies is ALSO fine with Cargill, ADM, ethanol, high fructose corn syrup manufacturers, transfat corps. Don't be duped. Really, corn, etc. lacks "price responsiveness," needs price floors/supply manag. Cf "Farm Bill Primer" "zspace"

  • Its not what we grow, its how we grow it, and how much we use it.

Its the same thing with wheat oats and corn.

As you grow a grain year after year after year without replenishing the soil, the nutritional value of the grain becomes crap. And what happens when that grain is in everything you eat? You're eating a whole lota crap then..

  • Grow cannabis, not corn. Hemp seeds alone outvalue corn in nutritional content and with all the preexisting varieties, genetic modification is hardly necessary. Preaching to the choir on this one probably

  • @flyingcricket1001 We should be worried that gmo hemp seeds will take over that industry if it gets big enough.

  • i just saw this movie on trueveo.com by going on google and typing in king corn movie online and a yahoo answers came up so i clicked on the link they gave and watched the whole thing. and no i am not advertising this sight, im just telling you where to find the vid. But im still looking for that food inc. vid. Peace!!

  • is this a movie?

  • Entertaining if you're a zombie

  • I need to watch this!!

  • Awesome Video.

  • This is so fucking scary! I won't sleep tonight, it seems like another story out of The Shock Doctrine! We should do something! I'm all freaked out!

  • corn with a side dish of raisins.

  • GUESS WHAT? NOBODY CARES.

  • I just finished watching this doc and I was disappointed. There were SO many avenues they could have chosen to go down to make an in-depth and educational and really eye-opening doc. Instead, they lazily went down the middle road, not really trying to drive any particular point home. I felt like the project just didn't have any balls, so to speak. It was interesting, sure, but not really saying enough to change anyone or anything.

  • I haven't seen it yet but your review gives the inclination that this is one of those documentaries where the filmakers try to "star" in the movie and do the Michael Moore thing and I hate that

  • It was general but does put the fact out there that what your eating and drinking is made up from corn that humans can't consume, so why would you want to put it into your body in the form of high fructose corn syrup? The movie says a lot about the truth of our farming industry and who controls it. Watch it again and view it in a different light then do some research on some names that come up in it and the truth will come out. It is killing the people and has been one major cause of obesity.

  • Plus an independent film has not much cash to work with at all. Nothing! Job well done in my opinion for the money spent. It may wake up some but the mass won't even touch the video. Too bad, probably can't get up from their couch and watch something with a purpose that may enlighten them. I do respect your thoughts and opinion though! :)

  • @Gmanbrooklyn

Well in actual fact the documentary Food Inc was packed full of really good info but was an opinionated documentary all throughout, these guys took a more objective approach , I don't recall them actually giving one opinion at all which is a more professional approach although not as slick as the aforementioned docus

  • It's not so much people are contributing to these companies, we're only helping these fat execs who probably won't live to see 70 but let them suffer to death faster. Oh well, do I feel bad for them, not at all.

  • I loved this so much I bought the DVD.

  • "We don't have to eat all of that corn. We can turn it into ethanol fuel"

Yeah, after all, who cares about the starving people in the world, we've got lots of corn, why should we waste food on them when we can use it for engine fuel for our SUVs right?.... Ay, ay, ay.....

  • you don't want to eat this corn and i certainly don't want it to go anywhere else in the world.

most of the corm is GMO corn-- which if you're aware food politics you know is not the best--this corn isn't worthy of human consumption..i say send into into our SUVs..at lest it can do some good there

  • @qjsg08

It's not my fault that that corn is GM corn. To begin with, we shouldn't be growing GM food. That's the problem, not the solution.

  • @ kzargentina

of course we shouldn't be growing GM corn, but i'm trying to go with the lesser of two evils...i see your point though and i agree but there is no one solution for what ails our society and i think if the US wants to grow GM corn and build fuel guzzling cars, i'd prefer that at least it not be done at the expense of our health...

    just my two cents

  • Yes you are right: there is no one solution for what ails our society. However, once we have put our "finger in the dike", so to speak, of fuel shortage with GM grain (for ??? time), our health will continue to be at risk from the ever-increasing amount of crap we pour into the oceans, rivers and atmosphere. "Lesser of 2 evils" might be good reasoning; however, some have used such reasoning to "justify" cruel dictatorships (just 1 example: Pinochet) so I think it's something to be careful with.

  • Even better legalize hemp and turn that into fuel like Henry Ford wanted to do before DuPont, Standard Oil, and International Paper blocked his efforts by banning it in the 1930's.

  • corn actually has low energy output and is not really cost efficient to make biofuel,

  • We don't have to eat all of that corn. We can turn it into ethanol fuel, and we can use flex-fuel cars that burn E85 fuel!

  • high fructose corn syrup....its in everything...we will continue to get fat of it and its not going anywhere and plenty more to come

  • Comment removed

  • Ending subsidies would go a long way in promoting a healthier society and environment.

  • Well... what happens is this... yea its our fault mainly if we get fat... but because we are already fat off corn, were too lazy to eat healthy now!!! So lets sue the Corn dudes, cuz they tricked us!!

  • Just because we live in a place and time where people don't have to worry about daily starvation, we get hoards of brainless followers that want to Blame (and probably Sue) someone else for their every minor problem.

If your fat ass drinks 10 bottles of Coke a day, that's YOUR fault, tubby. Not Coca-Cola's fault, not HFCS's fault, not the farmer's fault, YOUR fault. The Coke could be made with cane sugar or honey or maple syrup for sweetener and you'd still get fat.

  • ¿sabeis si lo hay doblado al español?

  • corn is a gift of god, so is hemp

    keep growing it!

  • Great Documentary. I quit soda and have tried to limit as many products with corn syrup as sweetener and have never felt better. Lost 15 lbs.

Newtguy is correct Monsanto will kill us all.

  • I watched this documentary and I came out much wiser. Corn is so cheap and grows so easily that we are looking for new uses for it. We make corn syrup and put it in everything we can. Its not even food grade corn it feed grade corn. Yuck! So bad for us.

  • I crown Pepsi Throwback to be the best invention in the world.

  • I'm a farmer, and these boys are dead right. This Monsanto nightmare of "Frankenfoods" is killing off the independant American farmer faster than ACORN is killing off the honest vote.

These GMO purveyors of world hunger have to be stopped before it's too late. The yields are LOWER, NOT HIGHER. The cost is 4 to 8 times higher! The health effects are terrifying, if humans turn out to be susceptible like cattle fertility has proven to be. And it's all done for what? More yachts and golf?

  • ACORN? really? haha.

  • @SkylinerOblique

" faster than ACORN is killing off the honest vote. "

I almost agreed with you there. ACORN never 'killed off' any vote. Or committed any crime. Stop eating corn syrup, and stop listening to Fox News Channel, the media version of corn syrup.

  • @SkylinerOblique

you've just encapsulated the American "dream", well done

  • @SkylinerOblique I agree with you on Monsanto, they essentially have a monopoly and serious political, financial pull that seems to be unfair.

Having said that. You can't really throw GMOs into a generalization like that. The future of agriculture is likely going to be a combination of GMO and organic. Breeding plants with desired traits is really not much different than genetically modifying them, it's actually a more random/unpredictable shuffling of genes. GMO's can be done safely.

  • @SkylinerOblique - The yields are LOWER, NOT HIGHER. The cost is 4 to 8 times higher!

I am a farmer ... Skyliner, you are doing it wrong.

Todays stacked trait GMO Hybrids yield twice what the workhorse conventional Hybrids of just fifteen years ago. You can't get consistant yields from any crop without controlling the pests.

I think GMOs have their place, it's better than spraying our food with insecticide.

    Les

  • @CouldNotCareLes its not better than spraying our foods with insecticide. The insecticide is now in the DNA and is causing more ecological damage than ever before. Insecticides were bad enough and cause plenty of sickness and pollution. All GMO did was put it into the DNA which is causing major health and ecological issues. The bats are now dying of a NOVEL fungus and the union of concerned scientists told us that GMO crops would introduce NOVEL viruses and pathogens.

  • @CouldNotCareLes glyphosate:~ Increases disease, reduces nutrition quality, & enhances environment degradation~ Increases the popL of Fusarium & other soilborne pathogens~Extends host range of pathogens.~Is released in the soil thru plant root exudates where is toxic2beneficialmicroorganisms.~ Persistence in soils from common "weed burn down" applications is documented ~Residual levels inhibit root uptake of essential micronutrient manganese, & restricts translocation of copper, iron, zinc

  • @lisakaylanemorris -

I'm getting the impression that you don't know the difference between and insecticide and a herbicide.

Bt is a naturally occurring soil bacterium, it is already in the soil.

Roundup Ready is a tolerance to glyphosate (salt) ... there is no pesticide in those plants at all.

How does either of these affect nutrition quality?

    Les

  • may be a dumb question, but I have to ask. Have you actually watched the documentary?

  • Seriously, have you ever heard of GMO corn. It's apply-named "Round-up Ready" because farmers can spray as much of the deadly poison on it as they want and it still survives.

Also, it has what's known as a terminator gene in which keeps it from reproducing! Thus, farmers must go back to Monsanto every year and purchase again!

This GMO corn has totally contaminated the organic corn supply and soon Monsanto will monopolize all of your food.

Do some research before leaving dumb comments.

  • @newgtguy

Farmers spray just as much or more "deadly" on conventional or non RR corn.

Infact BT corn that produces its own pesticide proteins requires no insecticide spray and you don't kill benificial insects.

Terminator gene is a farce bud, no such thing. Hybrid corn is purchased every year whether or not its GMO.

You do some research and don't pretend your an agronomy expert.

  • @OntarioCrops good then you eat that BT corn, and tell me how your health is 20 years from now.

  • hi, if you really think HFCS is just "fine" maybe do a little research and see for yourself just how right you are.

    HFCS =/= corn

  • The problem with corn is simple. We were not designed to eat it. Our bodies cannot process it and neither can an animals. It is used to fatten cows, just as it fattens humans. Corn is the cause of diseases such as Heart Failure, Obesity, Diabetes, etc. Corn does feed people, it just leaves out the nutrition part of food.

  • Read "The Omnivore's Dilemma." You know, a book. These two that did their documentary know their stuff. The information is out there. Obesity levels have skyrocketed, and I don't think ALL the blame can be on an increase in a sedentary lifestyle.

  • bamapepa: I read the Omnivore book. I also watched the king corn movie. My bullshit detector works. Why do you say they "know their stuff" so well? because they make you feel like you're justifieid in being angry?

You're right - the sedentary lifestyle isn't all of the reason for obesity etc. It's only half the reason. the other reason is overeating.

Just because your fat ass drinks 8 Cokes a day, doesn't mean it's the corn farmer's fault .

  • We are the most obese country in the world. You just saw a video that mostly explains why.

  • While I do agree with HFCS being very unhealthy, fact is there are many other contributing factors to obesity today. Video games, computers, cable TV and two working parents are just some of these.

  • The movie is RIGHT ON POINT! There IS A CONSPIRACY! The guy said "we're growing crap" and you're saying thats what the people wanted? You act like the people get what they ask for. The people been asking to legalize weed FOR YEARS! And ain't never got it. So thats BS. The production of the cheaper product is for the companies benefit not the consumer! ITS ALL FOR PROFIT! So, don't be a cop-out and say it's the consumer's fault for poor quality foods that you put with in their budget.

  • Well then whose fault is it. My family grows around 10000 acres of corn a year. ITS NOT CRAP. yes it has changed over the years and yes it contains alot more starch than the corn that originated in south america but it has to be clean free of bugs and the right moisture in order to deliver it to the elevator. We do use chemicals to keep the corn weed free but it washes of in a couple weeks. the problem is the rise in price never reaches the farmer and therefore farmers remain broke.

  • If you want food from small farms that produce 100% organic, then you should move to Africa, South America, or almost any third world country. There is a reason why we have been able to feed more people with less land and labor than these other countries. Agriculture is capital intensive in the U.S. Today, Americans pay less for food (as percentage of total income), than anyone in any country at any point in history. Some call it conspiracy, I see it as efficiency.

  • Amen, right on. I hate it when people say the US doesn't make anything anymore. We produce lots of food, of all kinds. We produce so much that we can export it too. The reason farms have gotten bigger is because of survival. One of the reasons our country is so successful is our food is so cheap. We use so little of our individual income on food, that we have a large precentage of our income to buy other things,

  • well I tell you what you can have all that GMO food and the health benefits you can reap as a guinea pig.. Ill eat organic food non gmo without pesticides, BTW I dont have to live in a third world country we grow it here in abundance and with the new hydroponic technology we will not even need soil to grow good NON GMO food anymore long live the revolution!

  • yes feed the people and create the worst health disaster the world has ever known!

  • Wow, I liked the documentary, well done, but, but I feel that one is misled about the evils of corn in our food. Corn syrup is simply sugar, period. They simply found a cheaper sugar. There is no conspiracy It is simply our competitive market providing products that the consumers want. If people would start buying more healthy foods the industry would respond. Again there is NO CONSPIRACY, ANYONE CAN EAT WHATEVER THEY WANT TO!

  • ...and by "competitive market" you mean subsidies and insane tariffs on the alternatives?

I like your conservative approach to a solution though, Boarpower. Yes, anyone can eat whatever they want to. Too many people are too lazy to eat anything that doesn't come "ready to eat" out of a box or bag these days.

When it comes to bang for your buck, corn sugar products are the cheapest and easiest way to get your fix!

  • I know, I know, I hate that stuff too. I am in theory a free trader. The subsidies and tariffs are all screwed up, our congress is in charge of keeping that messed up. Since that movie you have to understand prices have went up. At the comodity prices lately, very little subsidies are being paid out. I had to laugh at all the complaints and news stories about the increasing price of food lately. It shows you pay for your food one way or another.

  • it's not the fact that it's the same as sugar. The point is that it is in EVERYTHING and most people don't know that. Yes, we can eat whatever we want but everything that most people know has HFCS in it.

  • Why doesn't everyone know it? It is clearly on every label. My point is, sure, too much HFCS is bad for you, just like too much sugar is bad for you. We live in a country where we have many choices of food and each individual needs to make healthier choices. It is so much like sugar that the lablel can't say sugar free unless it contains no HFCS.

  • aaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • Wow with that much corn,am surprised that this country does not have a ethanol fuel tank in every car in america...

  • The ironic thing is we could never come close to providing enough corn for ethanol for this country. We could maybe provide 10-15% gasoline use. All that piled up corn already has a use for it and is simply being stored until it is needed. Corn of coarse is harvested in the fall and is used all year by consumers, like the movie said , mostly for animal feed.

  • I watched this documentary. Starts off slow but when its over all the pieces come together and what a revelation it is! That corn syrup is in so many products that we end up with corn in our hair samples. And the feed grade of corn that they use to make the syrup kills cows after 4 or 5 months. Bad stuff.

  • Corn does not kill cows in 4 to 5 mo. It does need to be fed with other feed to be a balanced and economical diet. If a cow was introduced to as much corn as it wanted all at once it likely would kill it or harm it. The 4 stomaches of a cow are very versatile and when given time to "adjust" can be fed lots of things. A cow produces its own amino acids in balance out of the raw material fed to it, Humans, horses, etc need to be fed a more balanced diet with the "right amino acids" included.

  • this makes me so hungry! I need a burger!

  • Ever since i was young my mom who is a pharmacist has preached the evils of high fructose corn syrup. It is killing this nation along with many other heavily processed or modified foods. Corn by itself is a great food but what we do to it and how we use it is nearly poison. The government does not care and the only way you can protect your helth is to be aware. I have not seen the movie but will be watching it as soon as I can. Glad someone cared enuf to put the information out there.

  • @tuffgrrrrl Yay capitalism! Go the route that makes the most money because the cost of producing and using these derivatives from corn doesn't factor in the long term health and environmental damage they do. Can we start think further into the future than the next pay day?

  • I FUCKING LOOOOVE COOORRRNN!!!!!

  • For more information about corn, read Michael Pollen's book, The Omnivore's Dilemma.

  • nice

  • corn syrup = satan

  • Im allergic to High Fructose Corn Syrup and i hate it, its soo hard to find food with out it.

  • so how does it compare to 'the world according to monsanto'?

  • I just saw this movie. Check out the scusteister blog at Live Journal.

  • I LOVE CORN!

  • I have yet to see the film since I missed it on TV, but watching the clips and reading the website have me concerned. I am surprised about how little urban people know about where there food comes from. The shocking points in the film are all common knowledge to those of us who grew up in a rural community.

So what is the bottom line? Get rid of corn in everything? Use sugar instead? Will that make Americans eat less? Only if you can barely afford to eat already food at the current prices.

  • Food for the cattle...

  • I just watched this on Independent Lens on PBS. Excellent and disconcerting. Thanks for helping keep the public informed :)

  • I recently went to a screening at the University of Michigan. This film was entertaining and informative. Nice work.

  • We've been victimized by corporate pockets...Sucks that this documentary will only affect a handful of people...the rest will watch....be sad...than head over to Jack in the Box because you don't feel like cooking, it's only 2 blocks away, and since you've had food like this from childhood, you probably are craving fast food right now from just the thought of it. Am I wrong? (I admit, I am as guilty as you, so allow this video to educate us both!)

  • Or because that's all they can afford. There's a direct link between poverty and unhealthy diets.

  • Really looking forward to this film. Does a body and a mind good!

  • DAMN!!!

  • Corn is todays Soylent green. Explains why there are so many fat-asses in this country. Ever wonder why Ketchup and Sodas taste better OVERSEAS?

  • I've been telling people a long time ago that this piss colored nugget would kill us one way or another. I think it could benefit us as a fuel but not as all the man made poisons they make it into. This is where diabetes comes in and kills you!! It has taken many of my family members. GREAT JOB GUYS!!

  • I just saw you guy's on GMA. I'll definately help you get the word out. Looking forward to the movie. "They" say that in this short life we should all "DO" something to contribute to the betterment of mankind. You've done that. Thank you.

  • Saw this last night - very well done. Definitely wish more people saw this!

  • Looking forward to the film!!!

  • go big boy jack!!!

  • My friend is the one who waves his hands and says "Carbs" its hilarious!!! I told him I'm going to get a shirt of him saying that. Like when he was in the musical "ANNIE"....and says Annie...Annie....i'm rolling on the floor laughing.....

  • Thank you for making this movie so I don't have to!! Everyone on my christmas list will be getting your movie this year! For all of you "we'd be starving to death" retards: WE ARE STARVING TO DEATH. Get it. Corn in SLAVE FOOD. High Fructose Corn Syrup is poisoning us all... Much Love!!! ~Rain

  • smokeskull, I think you missed the point...and somehow the world survived before all the genetically modified corn existed.

  • Smokeskull speaks the truth. We are getting at least 4 times the per acre yield as my grandfather did and we ARE using that to feed much of the world. Nowadays when people starve to deth it is for sociopoliticial reasons and not a lack of globally available food, as was in the past. If you want to argue that we consume too many calories and that much of those calories come as HCFS, be my guest. However that is more a matter of circumstance than cause-and-effect.

  • What about the effects that American corn producers have on foreign markets by flooding them with their cheap corn? In essence, we have forced 3rd world out of the farming business b/c the US has made it too expensive to farm there....doesn't help much that they have no wage-earning industries as well. We starve them, then won't sell them food at a price they can afford.

Spur your Cross on your back and quit being the AntiChrist....the system.

  • BamaPepa: How can you say "...foreign markets by flooding them with their cheap corn?" and then say "...then won't sell them food at a price they can afford."?

Do you know how stupid that sounds?

  • great movie

i just wish more people would see it

  • Great video! HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP CAUSES DIABETES, DOES ANYONE CARES?

  • Kansas is threatening to sue neighboring Nebraska for consuming more than its share of the Republican River. Locals oppose a proposed ethanol plant in Erskine, Minnesota, anti-refinery yard signs sprout and residents are concerned about well water. Backers of a proposed ethanol plant in North Dakota recently withdrew their application as the plant's million-gallon-a-day appetite would drain too much from a local aquifer. In Wisconsin, new plants are encountering opposition in Sparta & Milton
