  • Only one or two of these units where actually running. These units have been in storage at Cumberland, Selkirk, and Waycross waiting to be fitted with the 6000hp GEVO engine. One AC6000CW can pull an entire 120+ car train all by itself depending on the number of loads and emptys. CSX AC6000CWs are also more powerful than Union Pacifics because they weigh more and have advanced adhesion software. CSX 432,000LBS to Union Pacific 420,000LBS. The UP AC6000CWs are also notorious slippers.

  • Awesome catch. Even in Utah, Wyoming, and Nebraska, I have not heard of or seen UP putting this many AC6000's on one train.

  • Thank You. Its rare enough to see 2 of these brutes on a train nowadays, but to see 6 and all on the same train at once is just quite nice to see such a sudden change in power. Sometimes it pays to be in the right spot, at the right time.

  • 699 is the only derated CW60AC, rest are all 6000 h.p.! nice video man!

  • Sweet! Thanks For the info and Thanks Again

  • uuhhhmmm, i dont think this is 36,000 hp, the Ac66's are not rated at 6000 hp, i think i read some were, that CSX downgraded them to like 4000 or some thing like that

  • your probably right, but idk.. I think its 5,000 HP but the reason for the " 36,000 " HP is out of the name, AC6000. So 6 X 6,000 = 36,000

  • There was talk of CSX derating the prime movers by computer to 4400 hp. Whether that's the case or not, only the real AC6000's got dual exhaust stacks AND the huge radiators like the ones here, so you can call this an AC36000 consist!

  • Yes there is been talk of that. While on the subject, CSx was talking of making these brutes into ES60DC's and de-generating the power. From what I have known, it hasnt happened. But Yes, glad that CSX only de-rated one of these beauties as opposed to the entire class.

  • @xxxDeath9572xxx these beasts are loud too, when i saw a pair of um go by i was just a little too close and wah, that high pitched whine is deafining

  • Awesome, screw the GEVOS.

  • Is it the ES44DCs that have the most trouble by the way.

  • Looks like CSX did something right for once. AC6000s Live! Next thing I know CSX returns some of the C30-7s that are stored then the real fun would began.

  • Phft! Yeah i can agree for sure!!! And if that happens, i'll be one amazed son of a bitch..

  • I here they have some stored in Georgia along with a C36-7 in Conrail colors.

  • I hope so! If i see that leading a train, i'll be surely one lucky man

  • Turbochargers on the GEVOs are, well....EXPLODING, so CSX is bringing AC6000CWs out of storage while there being fixed.

  • Great catch! I had heard about this train from a guy down in Richmond VA area. Love the 6000's.

  • Thanks, and yes, most certainly so... Better the AC6000's than those annoying ES44DC's.. -.-

  • YES YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am a diehard EMD fan, and I'm glad to see those stupid GEVOs go into storage! If you ask me, I knew something would happen, some major meltdown on the ES44 meltdown!

    -Brandon

P.S- Sorry for all the yelling :)

  • You got that right!

  • Hey, im a EMD fan myself, but i'll give you one thing.. Those GEVO's do get annoying and cant pull, but truthfully its just those ES44DC's i cant stand for CSX.. That'd be put as the same with seeing all those AC/DC's for BNSf.. the CSX ES44AC's, i REALLLLLLY Like.. And Its Cool. the GE AC6000's and Es44AC's are the only GE's that are somewhat considered new ( within last 10 years or somethin ) , i like..

  • Awesome catch!

  • That is a LOT of power! Nice catch!

  • Nice, nice train! It's ashame that it turned north at Youngstown, instead of coming out here through Akron. The Super 60's are my favorite CSX unit. Never heard one negative thing about them before!! Especially with all of the EMD fans (aka GE haters) out there, I'm impressed!

Also, the GEVO's aren't "failing" so to speak. They are just going in for turbo charger inspection/replacement. The AC6000CW's and C40-8W's have been revived from storage during the GEVO's absence.

  • Thanks Rich, and yeah i hear ya.. Im a EMD fan myself, but i cannot stand those GEVO's and the dash 8's are ok.. The Super 60's are truly a real GE locomotive in my eyes. I was told quite alot of the GEVO's were stalling quite oftenly and being put into storage.

  • EMD fan,......bah!!! Too many of you guys!! :)

The GEVO's were having trouble with exploding turbo chargers, so NS, CSX and BNSF pulled them from service. NS is resurrecting the C40-9 narrow cabs and SD60's, CSX is resurrecting the AC6000CW's and C40-8W's. Not sure what BNSF is doing.

All I know, is that I'm glad to see the AC60's come back. This is going to give GE and even worse reputation, even though the GEVO prime movers were built in China. EMD fans will soon open fire! I guarantee it

  • I'm also going to start waiting for my previous comment to get "thumbs down." :)

  • One last thing. The GEVO's probably aren't all out of service as of the time of this posting, but they are on their way out. My locomotive engineer friend, Dave Mangold, who works for NS, says that he received a bulletin stating that the 7500-7600-7700 series locomotives are to be pulled from service. The story is the same for CSX. Again, not sure what BNSF is doing, but I heard they too are pulling the GEVO's from service.

  • Your correct and most are but a few arent.. Q277 had a ES44DC leader with a YN3 C44-9W trailing! But yea seems so.. Since i've got a few connections into CSX myself. The 5200 Series is the first that were pulled.. Followed by many others.. Wonder why CN, CP & UP aint having this problem

  • @xxxDeath9572xxx because cn has alot more other engines, cn has barely any gevos compared to the us roads

  • @CSXno601 well i definatly dont mind, i mean at first i didnt really know what to think, i like the K5HL horns but not the engines, bring back the good power i say

  • Lol you know it.. lol

  • Hey, Nothing wrong with that. ;) And yea i heard, BNSF is resurecting they're SD75M's and I's.. And Same here.. And Yes We will, once those GEVO's are back, its back to a shooting Gallery!

  • I saw the same Q277. It is probably one of the last runs that the GEVO will see for a while. This is a liability issue that is being taken very seriously. And yes, I'm assuming UP, CN and CP are also having these problems, and are probably dealing with them, as appropriate.

BNSF is also resurrecting their SD60M's. NS has plenty of Dash 9 narrow cabs and SD60's coming back. CSX is bringing back the AC60's and Dash 8's. It is a nice comeback, and an interesting/scary downfall.

  • one can say so.. I've truthfully wanted to see BNSF activity for years now.. And yes most certainly.. Im assuming it was taken off @ Fostoria?

  • I doubt they took the unit off, but rather let it run to it's destination, then took it out of service. Q277 terminates at Walbridge, OH (outside of Toledo).

  • Ah, ok.. But Q277 is normally a night time train here.. Whenever i see it from time to time, its running late

  • That train is a R410, all of those AC6000CWs came from storage in Waycross.

  • I know its in the info

  • Oh, my bad.

  • its cool.. its in the video too. lol

  • I've never seen so many AC6000s nice catch

  • they came out of storage. sweet that they lead elephant style though!

  • Oh Yeah!

  • Fresh Outta storage from WayCross Georgia! I missed 3 more yesterday by a minute!
