The IWC does allow a certain number of whales to be killed for scientific research but the IWC also declared that particular part of the ocean to be a marine sanctuary for whales. The japanese use one IWC ruling as an excuse to whale but dispute the other IWC ruling as not binding. They pick and chose the laws they wish to follow. The Sea Shepherds try and prevent the whaling under UN GA RES 37/7: World Charter for Nature (1982) which specifically allows persons or associations to take action.

In case the creeps haven't figured it out, i'll define it right now: At least 70% of all who see these videos and post are against the whalers! To top that, most of the rest are just kids posting for the purpose of trying to appear cold and cruel, because apparently, that's the in thing to do. They believe it makes them "the strong". So then the pared down remainder are the only pro-whalers... and some of those are just agents following orders on the ICR payroll (no matter how they feel)

get a small submersable to carry 2 men. One with underwater cutting torches and the other to drive the submersable. Use magnets to hold the submersable to the hull of the waler ship. Cut a hole in the hull and the boat sinks. No more whalers... sink a couple of ships and they will rethink the proffit in whaling..

The whale poachers are hunting in the whales' home. The sanctuary. If the whalers really were doing the mass killing for science, they'd be conducting this "research" abroad and not strictly in the sanctuary year after year! That'd be the only way to get a complete picture when using science to gain a clear answer. BUT the whalers head straight to the sanctuary!!!

The Sea Shepherds also have the RIGHT to protest in any way they wish. Anyhow, things like deer and bears and coyotes are damaging the land environments by overpopulating. Whales are perfectly inoffensive! Jap Qaeda are the only ones harming a part of nature in this scenario!

I guess the small print gives you trouble so I enlarged it. Yes, the FORMER minister - who would have had oversight over the Sea Shepherd problem - is now a board member of the SSCS.
