i just joined speech team, i've only had one meeting with the group, the usual group leader wasn't even there, the next time we meet is at a competition and i don't even know the rules...
my answer: youtube. i didn't know what i was getting myself into when they asked what theme would i would like, i thought of something i was good at, something that wouldn't take to much work, so i chose dramatic, looking at this now, i'm actually inspired to do my best~ that's the power of the internet for you
Seeing speeches like this make me wish I was a boy all the time because I feel like for boys in speech there are so many more options as far as scripts go. Sort of makes me feel bad.
I think what lost him a spot in the top 3 was he didn't really transition after the end of his piece. He kind of just shoot his head, and at that level something as minute as that will cost big
How old was he when he performed this? He really pulls off the college professor character expertly. Its a great piece, and he performs it amazingly. Only thing i have is that his movement seems a bit excessive in spots and distracts from his words, but he can somehow get away with it because he does every single action with the utmost purpose and certainty, which is the key to a sharp performance. Excellent. Very enjoyable.
I have chills! I miss forensics so much. I wish my college had a team. This piece is so controversial. He was very tasteful is his approach & I commend him in taking on such a piece.
This guy is fantastic. I normally am not one to really like DI, but he is inspirational. I see the category in a new light, and I wish him great success in the future.
@orlmgc4ever I believe he was fourth. It was harvey milk, intimate terrorism, family secrets, white people, voices from chernobyl, battle of manilla. Personally, I thin he deserved 2nd or 3rd. I didn't care for family secrets at all.

@Enieledam6 This is also a womans speech. It turns from his wife, to her sister. From him to her, I saw this brilliant girl do it. She was amazing.

This along with Letter to Harvey Mlik are my favorite dramatics of all time. Gosh, John is so talented and embodies his character so well!

...Oh....my god.
The audio was starting to hurt my ears but it just made me feel even more terrified when he was screaming.

I suppose the crappy audio adds juxtaposition to this utterly awsome DI.

Isn't this the same guy who got 1st in Oratory at Nationals in 2009? If it is, do you have his oratory video?
bubba1111111111 2 years ago
Indeed he is, it was called "Harvey and Jack" (I had the great honor of shaking his hand after a round).
