how is the rule in ice hockey actually ? they let a player get into a fight until they are satisfied then only they put them into penalty box ? i only watched NHL recently and still not really understand the rules/norm of the game

@sicoy Well, in the NHL, the rules allow for a lot of physical contact, and the fighting is there mostly so that the physical contact does not get too out of control, kind of like a way for the rough, physical players to protect the stars of their respective teams. That and it makes fans happy to see two angry Canadians beating the crap out of each other xD, but a player will usually get thrown out if he fight 3 times (I think) in a game.

After the fight a rookie the lightning had just called up went to remove what he thought was a piece of ice from his stick and it turned out to be Freadrichs tooth. After that he didn't go back into game and was sent back down to the minors the next day.

@Jeffbkb no, every once n' a while players get pissed off or have to defend another player, say if they got hit by the other team in a dirty way, and so they drop the gloves to relieve frustration/kick the other guys ass or defend their teamate. depends on the situtation. some do it just to energize their team and go out and pick a fight. that part is stupid in my opinion.
