  • i saw birds doing this once

  • So was that enterprise? Or a different one?

  • teknologi sekarang sangat super canggih

  • Omay god xD

  • it is always a huge pleasure to watch tons of metal leaving the ground!

  • if you look close , you can see Chuck Norris giving the 747 a piggyback.

  • i saw this one, s'ok superman showed up later

  • They must use one massive condom.

  • I can remember in elementary school seeing the shuttle on the back of a plane circling around Tallahassee it was so cool!

  • Kid: Mom, how are space planes made?

Mom: Well, a big jet plane and a big space shuttle hold hands and a space plane is born.

  • That 747 must be a whole different animal to fly compared to a regular passenger jet.

  • @sniperv25 minus the seats and crap no. The damn thing is 1,000,000 lbs fully loaded (fuel, passengers, luggage) or fuel and an empty space shuttle( empty its a glider that HAS to be semi light.. funny the damn thing is basically a rock with stabilizers). The 747 was WAy overbuilt; thus many decades later they are still in action.

  • fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!wow

  • Plane Id Like to Fuck

  • The space shuttle is probably the women though :O

  • now if it lands on the 747 ill be impressed

  • surprise buttsex

  • Ohh my bad wrong aircraft. I feel like an idiot. Sorry.

  • Thats defiantly not a modified Boing 747. Wow, people and aviation do not not mix unless you go to school for it like me!! :)

  • @JayKeiferHawk Actually there are 2 modified 747's that NASA use to carry Shuttlles. 747-100 & 747-100SR. Please go to the bottom of the class you have failed.

  • @JayKeiferHawk Well aren't you just the cream of the crop...

  • ...and that is how baby planes are made, boys and girls.

  • what if the pilot gets bored and does a role?

  • That plane looks like it's struggling to stay up with all that weight on it.

  • OMG THE SHUTTLE IS RAPING THE PLANE

  • Space Shuttle: WEEEEEEEEE!

  • WOLOLOL

  • they need to launch this way as well for orbit missions, once it reaches high alt the shuttle could power its way into orbit with fule carried in its cargo bay thus saving on the giant tank and booster rockets

  • @meattube4u33 They don't launch like this lol, its only for transportation...

  • @meattube4u33 You're kidding, right? If not... hahahahahahahahahahaahahahahhhahahahahaahahahahahhahahahahahahaahahahaa good luck.

  • @CubesForAKid not at all, why lift from the ground up with solid fule rockets when it could be towed or piggybacked? would you rather climb a building straight up the side or walk up the stairs?

  • @meattube4u33 If I'm trying to get into an orbit, I want to climb straight up.You need to get out of the denser atmosphere, THEN get groundspeed. You want the highest apoapsis possible for the orbit circularisation burn.

  • perfecto

  • reminds me of that documentary where those flying bugs mate in mid air

  • I've heard of this, its the new way for shuttles to get to space

  • How did the air-hostess pass the shuttle astronaut his cup of tea ??

  • just cram the shuttle in an an-225 with tail sticking out the roof and your finsihed

  • No that's...something you shouldn't know, kids

  • didn't know the NASA budget was so low that they have to put their equipment on commercial flights hahaha. Still could be a gap in the market for various commercial airlines...imagine new routes which would spring up. So one day you may be sitting in JFK and hear 'Passengers for AA520 to the International Space Station please make their way to gate 17.' (I chose AA because American Airlines as it is an American Airline and 520 because E is the 5th letter in the alphabet and T is the 20th)

  • looks like hump

  • Does the 747 has more powerful engines and stronger landing gear ?

  • @Thompoux the spaceshuttle is a glider so it provides its own lift and has low drag.

  • hey i have a bet with my dad he said the shuttel can't bring guys in the space

    please fast answer

  • This adds a whole new meaning to the phrase, "Suprise Butt Secks"

  • the 747 was like "fuck this shit, why i have to give this bitch a ride. If you so awesome flying out of space, then why don't you fly your ass to the space center yourself."

  • dude that is bad ass

  • So then the 747 drops off and falls into the ocean, right?

  • @superesonator That's hilarious! :D

  • @superesonator

    loooool

  • @superesonator No the space chuttle unconatcts the boeing 747 and then flyes away to the atmoshpere, while the 747 lands on the nearest airport

  • @BraeDoktor You are joking, right?

  • notice how the horizontal stabilizer has been widened, this is because the shuttle inturrupts the airstream, which, if not modified, could make the plane not be able to turn.

  • Impressive!!

  • Reminds me of Moonraker

  • how the fuck does that fly. lol

  • ?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! WHAT?!?!?!

  • Wow that plane makes that shuttle look like an oompa loompa!!!!

  • I know thats all just a big lump of metal and errr stuff, but damn its sexy. Is that wrong? lol

  • rule 34, no exceptions

  • NASA's attempt to beat Virgin Galactic to space tourism takes some budget cuts... XD

  • @Malbo22

You're a few years and shuttle models too late

  • @Malbo22 I wouldn't exactly call this 'Virgin' Galactic...

  • This looks more natural friendly

  • ┌∩┐(◕_◕)┌∩┐ Fuck the new layout COPY AND PASTE IF HATE THE NEW YOUTUBE

  • Lol.

  • The answer to all of these questions is because we can't. Think about it. You cannot visit space. Therefor, you want to.

When we develop technology that allows us to go to space for the price of a subway ticket, then, and only then, will we not be as fascinated with space.

  • That's the kind of screws you probably triple check the fitting!

  • it looks like the right engine is touching the ground while takeoff

  • this is from superman returns

  • this is cool but the question remains.....how the fuck did they get that shuttle on top of the plane

  • Shuttle is hoisted up and the 747 pulls under it. Its not rocket science....

  • technically it is xD

  • @mach25man Actually it IS Rocket Science!

  • @demodick Flying the shuttle is rocket science. Putting aircraft and spacecraft on top of and under other aircraft flying piggy back, this country has been doing for 50 years.

  • Mate/De-Mate Facility. Nothing more than a very precise Gantry.

  • 0:02 wtf look at the engine its like raping the ground!

  • they already have air transport to transport air transport? and we still don't have flying cars?

  • haha!

  • they are humping

  • ok that was realy rude first of all there not humping its just a bong 747 caring a space shuttel to kenety space center, florida becouse of a wrong landing destanation.

  • why?

  • It happens when the Shuttle doesn't Land in Florida (because of wheather problems). It maight land in California or other places (even europian or asian places). After they need to bring it back in Florida at KSC and certainly the Shuttle can't fly by himself like an airplane...it's a Glider (it has main engines, but any fuel :P)

  • thanks for that info :)

  • crazy how much landing gear that plane tucks away

  • "do ya think the 747 will notice" lol jokes

  • Wow, that 747 is in BEAST MODE right there. That's a big job.

  • How on earth do you suggest they do it? The 40 mule teams are rare and cost a lot too.

  • I think thats an astronaught training plane it goes up really close to the atmosphere edges

  • You think wrong.

  • No, this is the common way of transporting a shuttle from one place to another; it's cheaper and far easier than any other method. However, in the seventies when they were testing the shuttle glide and landing performance they actually launched it from the 747 at high altitude (for the 747, anyway) over Edwards. I suppose you could call that OJT for Haise, Fullerton, Engle and Truly. See wiki article on Approach and Landing Tests.

  • Also, those were the only flights that the Enterprise actually made.

  • Looks like Edwards AFB to me.

  • Nothing to see here, quite ordinary really, it's just plane sex!

  • Comment removed

  • with the shuttle on top does it create much more lift for the 747?

  • No, not very much. The shuttle's lift-to-drag ratio is atrocious compared to almost any airplane.

  • YEAH I SUPOSE , THANK

  • In soviet russia plane humps you!

  • Thats awesome. Look at all that wing flexing.

  • this is when planes get to mate xD

  • WELL SAID MATE.

  • This is how high altitude supersonic planes are conceived . . . . A space craft copulating with a boing....I want to see what comes out when that ship is on top of an airbus....And I am not even thinking about the size of the stork delivering that baby!

  • this is how ur space craft will be delivered by company to you in future

  • Lol, not quite a redneck space shuttle yet, wait for the space shuttle by some random guy that's an old van with rusty wings :P

  • i like american space shuttle with a jumbo 747 is better than ussr russia cheap buran on an-225,,,

ussr russia is always copy steal from american

  • acctualy the americas steal from russia.

  • its more mutual theft. Once someone find something better the other copies it and tries to make their own improvements on it...

  • now lets see a A380 do that

  • If I drive up to edwards AFB would I be able to get a good view of the piggyback next week? or not worth it?

  • in mid-flight you hear "3-2-1" then shoots into space lol that would be cool

  • piggy back lmao

  • ok......now

who did they get it up there in the first place?

  • good question. how did they get that thing up there?

  • possibly a crane

  • in reply to s4awd's question. there is a crane like device that they call the "mate/demate device" it actually grabs ahold of the shuttle while on the ground and lifts it up high enough for the 747 to move underneath it. Once the 747 is in possition the lower the shuttle onto the plane and mount it onto the brackets. I used to work at the Space Shuttle Landing Facility which is how I know this little piece of information.

  • Information on the shuttle carrier can be had on wikipedia at "Shuttle Aircraft Carrier". Note the pic at the bottom of the mounting point on the bracket; it warns that the shuttle has to be mounted "black side down".

  • Comment removed

  • your comment doesn't look right!!

  • it is not a rocket, it is a space shuttle.

  • I wish my Cessna could do that.

  • Yeah, great.....but can they fly my DeSoto to Palm Springs?!

  • That is well amazing, does anyone know if NASA still uses this procedure?

  • Yup. It's still how they get the shuttles back to the Cape. Fun times.

  • Space shuttle endeavour landed in california in 2008 and road back on the 747 back to Cape Canaveral.

  • Man those wings are bending badly..

  • how much would that shuttle weigh?

  • Incredible piece of engineering!

  • It's Discovery, from STS-92, leaving Dryden on 2 Nov 2002. It landed just before I retired from Dryden and I went down and got my photo taken with it, at the MDD (Mate-Demate Device).

You can tell it's well after '81 because the SCA is in the new livery, which is the blocky serif-y "NASA" in blue with the red swoop, based on the meatball. The old livery was the worm, a red sans-serif "NASA".

  • What shuttle was this? Was this circa 79-81?
