you can buy full turn key racing motors for that price that will put you in the same time bracket which probably has more than 100hp less than the suby not only is it cheaper to make a beetle faster but they are lighter and with it being rear will drive rear engine there take off is insane I will tell you now that the world record quarter mile time 4cyl. is a vw beetle using a vw engine it's on wicpidia if you would like to look it up dont get me wrong I own a 96 integra lsvtec with lots of mods
considering the fact that the beetle has a bigger engine propbably a 2200cc or biger they do not start life that way they are built that way for purpose of racing or something I'm sure the guy driving the suby put more of his money on bolt on parts which don't get me wrong work but consider that he might have spent for intake exhaust chip programer that est. at around 1,000 or so if you get good performance parts so you figure about 5,000 dollars later you have a 12-13 second suby
it says how to smoke a bug but doesnt say how just shows a beetle that brobably has a tuned porsche engine in it which if i may add is bigger than a subaru engine. realize what your saying next time !"!^**
porsche engines dont fit in a bug with standard bodywork/wheelbase,not worth the work when a tuned 4cyl bug engine can make decent hp,modern engines are computorized, electronic shite-bug design is over 60 yrs old
I don't know why many guys enjoy putting Subaru and all other asiatic-car engines on bugs. Why kill the German spirit the bug has? I mean, if you wanna spend some pennies, get a 2200 cc from an old porsche and modify it. Engine is the same type and look, just bigger and stronger. Those Porsche engines may be hard to find, but there are companies which make the 2200cc crankcases for bugs.
It is funny how the critics are popping at the Subaru based on the premise that the VW is older. I think we can all safely say that the bug is not running it's original unmodified engine, if it is running any of it's original floor pan it will likely as not have had lots of welding done too.
Looks like it could blow away most muscle cars too! What does that bad boy do in the 1/4 mile? I just picked up a Hyundai Accent,...If they make performance parts for the engine, the power to weight ratio could be very good also.
bugs r great but u gotta love subaru subys a good street car and the handling and top end a subaru has is useless on a 1/4 mile stretch, and the awd slows u down off the line Subarus r like a modernized bug engine anyways, dunno how ppl can say they dont like em n like suby only, u could always put a suby engine in a vw bug, but itd eb cheaper to build up a type 1 and u dont have to worry about annoying things like radiators and water pumps, that also add weight
People are so blind. It's not a beauty contest, it's a r-a-c-e. Helloooo. It's weight and gear ratios. The VW transmission has some of the shortest 1st and 2nd gears ever compared to other cars. Stick a strong 2.0 Liter motor in it and you're rolling death. That Impreza would have to spend $10,000 just to buy another half second. LOL.

Oh dear salemcripple really doesn't have a clue. Counterweights are designed to counter rotational forces created by a misbalanced crank. All vw racers use counterweighted cranks. And the higher the engine revs the more essential they are. Rotational mass has nothing to do with it if the engine is balanced (and conterweights play an essential part of this). From your comments i would guess your college degree has nothing to do with mechanics or physics. Spigosi is on the money here.
3 main bearings forever. I mean it. Marketing makes an engine dainty, today is a bad market... get it?
They have known how to make engines since the early days, and they don't... it would dominate the market. At least that is the only reality I can make of it. The EJ (sti) soobs are a phase to be forgotten... sooner by me than the market.
An old subaru huh? this bug is over 40 years old bitch! Subaru's will never live up to the legacy of a bug. And yeah, with the money it takes to buy an STi, you could have a straight up drag bug that will destroy a 3000 pound subie. (not very fast you know)
I know how to smoke a subaru with a VW. Spend amost as much money on that VW as you do on the subaru in that vid...on top of that, the subaru is an older 1.8 or 2.2 liter...lol. Lets see it own an Sti...
That beetle is about forty years old. Lets see how fast your STI is going in forty years. Ill bet you there wont be one 2006 model WRX left running on road by 2046, not one!!!
That beele is about 40 years old. Lets see how fast your STI is going in 40 years time!!! Ill bet you there wont even be one 2006 model WRX left running on the roads bt 2046, NOT ONE!!!

That beetle is about forty years old. Lets see how fast your STI is going in forty years. Ill bet you there wont be one 2006 model WRX left running on road by 2046, not one!!!

The year is 2046, a little boy is walking with his Gradfather. The boy looks up at his Granfather and says:"Grandad. What is a Subaru WRX STI???. The Grandfather looks at the boy with a sad face and says:"Well Grandson. thats a car that I used to drive about 40 years ago. I will have to show you a photo of one because there are none left anymore, they all fell apart about 15 years ago.
