  • broofer666--If you are right-handed, the arrow will go on the right side of the bow (opposite for LH). The index finger of your draw hand will push the arrow into the bow and it will not fall--even if you cant upside down.

  • hi wonder if you can help, when i tried to use horn thumbring on my bow( i am a complete begginer to this archery style) when i try to draw the arrow back it wants to slip off my hand thats holding the bow and point at almost 45 degrees away from the target.it just doesnt want to stay straight!!! i am right handed but it happens wither i knock the arrow on the left or right side of the grip

  • great vid

i got a 50# mongolian bow, and am kinda struggling with it (i have a hurt shoulder).

but once it heals, i am gonna use my thumb ring to shoot it. before i was just using 3 fingers

  • can u give me some dimensions of this bow i am going 2 be making one and the type of wood used thanks.

  • Nice video,

  • Nice, but you could have added some traditional korean music too instead of Dvořák :)

  • very interesting. im a decent shot with a longbow, but i could never get the hang of the thumbring.

  • That is cool!!!

  • To all of those who wrote me personally to tell what jerk I am, I have one thing to say. Do you understand sarcasm?

I have profound respect for Korean archers - the best in the world!

  • i dont see archery as a sport i see it as an art it takes some serious skill, precission, and when done right is enjoyable to watch

    great video and great archery:)

  • what is the length of those arrows?

  • Generally, about 32"

  • They know how to win medals at the Olympics. Do you?

  • Strongest man u seen..?ok....

  • Interesting anchor point, wont he get fletching nicks and cuts?

  • No problem, as the fletching is low-profile pheasant.

  • Also what draw weight is he using?

  • Man usually use about 45pound to 60pound.

The strongest man that I have seen is use about 78#

  • you can see videos on youtube of 100-138# english longbows

  • Where can I get bamboo arrows and equipment like him?

  • make it yourself is one way

  • Hey T, Nice seeing your video's on YT! This actually is the vid which got me interested for korean traditional archery. Hopefully some more video's will follow...also a higher res. one haha.

    Bye! Niels

  • whats a thumbring?

  • It's a release aid used to protect the thumb while drawing the bowstring.

  • thx

  • Thanks, he must be shooting 70 meters ?

  • 145 meters

  • Pity about the picture quality

  • Sometime, when I have more time, I'll post up a higher-rez version...

  • the music needs more of a dramatic flair....

  • very detailed, instructive, and helpful. Thanks. ... the music was a bit too much, though..

  • I always enjoy your stuff. Thanks...Flinger

  • Hey, Fling! Good to see you here.

    T

  • it isn't Korean traditional bow, it's a Turkish bow and Turks use the same technic

  • It is NOT a Turkish bow; it is a Korean horn bow (gakkung). It was crafted by a Korean bowyer who is one of only twelve left in the country. Korean bows have been made by a continuous line of bowyers for centuries right to the present day.

  • Contact Three Rivers Archery.

  • nice thumb ring demonstration. Would have liked to seen the final results of the ends

  • interesting

  • Take a look at koreanarchery . org / model25.html for more information on equipment.

  • I shoot primitive exclusively but I have never used a thumb-ring. I have seen thumb-rings on display and it's collectors but I have never seen them in use nor could those collectors tell me how they are used, thank you for the education.

  • I forget how many, but he did hit it. He often does, as he is a long-time, experienced member of the club.

  • did he hit anything????

  • i like that song at beginning. whats its name?

  • It's the '9th Sypmphony' of Dvorak, aka 'New World Symphony', movement 4. Allegro con fuoco iirc

  • gosh, just shoot the damn arrow! he takes so damn long

  • The reason he took so long in shooting is because I had him do it. The reason being, the video was made to show archers correct form when shooting with a thumb ring.

  • cool. my bad.

  • im looking for to buy some korean bows but idk where...do u kno where i can get them easliy? and the arrows and the thunb rings....i need a good quality, wooden, and far range - - is it possible? i need to keep the korean tradition going lol

  • what is so special about the thumb ring?

  • yes old turkish archer use this finger tumb ring . very old tecnigue. even our emperors have painting like this . fatih sultan mehmet has apicture he smells rose bt in hıs tumb there is a bow ring.

and ottoman archery had 3 units long bow throwers. armor pentrating and calavery bowers.

    stay well.

batur kardeşim 3 kitap var piyasada aklında olsun

  • Cool to watch. I shoot a recurve, fingers mediterranean style, so I thought it was funny when the fella shot his arrow off the "wrong" side of the bow. lol.

  • No, he is drawing with "Mongolian style, and the archer paradox is reversed. So a right handed archer shoot with a thumb ring should place his arrow on the right side of his bow.

  • The reason the arrow is on the right side is because the index finger of the draw hand pushes in towards the bow, which also pushes the arrow up against the bow. You can even cant upside down and the arrow won't fall off.

  • Thank you so much for putting this up, I was wondering how the thumb ring worked exactly.

Can you tell me how the arrow stays on the string? In Western archery the fingers hold it on.

I noticed the arrow passes on the right-hand side of the bow. No problems keeping it against the bow?

  • Mongol empire(during the Medieval) where they conquered from far east to west(Turkey/Hungary). This skill has been widely spread by them. The composite bow (horn & sinew) were 100~150lbs is very common during that period, it could go as far as 300 to 400 m. The ring is use for protection & accuracy because these bow is short(50" +/-)If my memory serves me right, Timurid & Golden Horde Empire widely spread this skill

  • just like we are turks&koreans are from the place where archery's born

  • Actually, turks and kors are the same race, believe it or not, along with tibetans, huns, mongols, and all those countries in central asia that ends with stans. We are so called "conquering clans."

  • same as ottoman archery(turkish)

  • Its probably true. do they use there thumbs too?

and it is well known in both countries that they have been calling each other a brother country since more than a thousand years ago.

it is amazing that one country in Europe and the other in far Asia have so much in common(There are other cultures similar also) and keep the relationship that long

  • very beautiful
