broofer666--If you are right-handed, the arrow will go on the right side of the bow (opposite for LH). The index finger of your draw hand will push the arrow into the bow and it will not fall--even if you cant upside down.
hi wonder if you can help, when i tried to use horn thumbring on my bow( i am a complete begginer to this archery style) when i try to draw the arrow back it wants to slip off my hand thats holding the bow and point at almost 45 degrees away from the target.it just doesnt want to stay straight!!! i am right handed but it happens wither i knock the arrow on the left or right side of the grip
Hey T, Nice seeing your video's on YT! This actually is the vid which got me interested for korean traditional archery. Hopefully some more video's will follow...also a higher res. one haha.
It is NOT a Turkish bow; it is a Korean horn bow (gakkung). It was crafted by a Korean bowyer who is one of only twelve left in the country. Korean bows have been made by a continuous line of bowyers for centuries right to the present day.
I shoot primitive exclusively but I have never used a thumb-ring. I have seen thumb-rings on display and it's collectors but I have never seen them in use nor could those collectors tell me how they are used, thank you for the education.
The reason he took so long in shooting is because I had him do it. The reason being, the video was made to show archers correct form when shooting with a thumb ring.
im looking for to buy some korean bows but idk where...do u kno where i can get them easliy? and the arrows and the thunb rings....i need a good quality, wooden, and far range - - is it possible? i need to keep the korean tradition going lol
yes old turkish archer use this finger tumb ring . very old tecnigue. even our emperors have painting like this . fatih sultan mehmet has apicture he smells rose bt in hıs tumb there is a bow ring.
and ottoman archery had 3 units long bow throwers. armor pentrating and calavery bowers.
Cool to watch. I shoot a recurve, fingers mediterranean style, so I thought it was funny when the fella shot his arrow off the "wrong" side of the bow. lol.
No, he is drawing with "Mongolian style, and the archer paradox is reversed. So a right handed archer shoot with a thumb ring should place his arrow on the right side of his bow.
The reason the arrow is on the right side is because the index finger of the draw hand pushes in towards the bow, which also pushes the arrow up against the bow. You can even cant upside down and the arrow won't fall off.
Mongol empire(during the Medieval) where they conquered from far east to west(Turkey/Hungary). This skill has been widely spread by them. The composite bow (horn & sinew) were 100~150lbs is very common during that period, it could go as far as 300 to 400 m. The ring is use for protection & accuracy because these bow is short(50" +/-)If my memory serves me right, Timurid & Golden Horde Empire widely spread this skill
Actually, turks and kors are the same race, believe it or not, along with tibetans, huns, mongols, and all those countries in central asia that ends with stans. We are so called "conquering clans."
and it is well known in both countries that they have been calling each other a brother country since more than a thousand years ago.
it is amazing that one country in Europe and the other in far Asia have so much in common(There are other cultures similar also) and keep the relationship that long

AHH! what do Koreans know about archery anyway?
Seems that this thumb ring would alter archer's paradox.
But then again, he's resting his arrow on the other side of the bow. Intersting.

Thank you so much for putting this up, I was wondering how the thumb ring worked exactly.
Can you tell me how the arrow stays on the string? In Western archery the fingers hold it on.
I noticed the arrow passes on the right-hand side of the bow. No problems keeping it against the bow?
