The planet of the apes sequels weren't terrible, but if there was ever a movie that real just didn't need a sequel, it was planet of the apes. The original movie ended in the best way imaginable, yet to squeeze more money out of the franchise, they just had made 4 more films. But that's hollywood for you.
I agree with your review. A couple of points though. The budget was less than the original and was reduced further during filming. The original had a very strong visual design and great panoramic photography. The sequel looks like TV by comparison.
well i just watched the movie i found to be a pretty disappointing movie compared to the first one but it was entertaining i also wasnt expecting much from this movie so with that mind set it wasnt horrible
Actually the budget to the original was 5 million and he second was 3 million u should definiteley watch behind the planet of the apes but Apart from that excellent review
This was the worst of the original five movies, in my opinion. My favourite in descending order: Planet Of The Apes, Conquest For the Planet Of The Apes, Escape From The Planet Of The Apes, Battle For the Planet of the apes and then beneath the planet of the apes.
And didn't the budgets for the movies constantly get lower? The budget for this was worse than the original.
@HowDaddyIsDoing this movie isn't better than the first because it's little more than a bland, watered down clone of the original for the first hour and 20 minutes the ending is by far the best part though and is certainly daring but it would've worked better if all this was spread over several films not just the climax of one
Charlton Heston openly refused to play Taylor through the entire sequel and requested that Taylor die at the beginning. They compromised and had him disappear at the beginning. Franciscus was brought largely cause he looked much like Heston.
a rather dour film in many ways and I'd say few people left the theatre smiling. All the same, decent production values (appart from some of the background artists ape masks which were god awful). Also..this didnt have a bigger budget that the original movie, its budget was quite a bit less and one of the major sets was a rehash of a set from another movie.
no way!!! this one was WAY better than the first one!!! despite its lack of good actors....there's something more powerful there. and what a daring ending!!!
my problem with this film was very little heston badassness

I didn't like this one because it didn't have roddy mcdowell. But i'm glad he's in the other 3 afterwards. Roddy Mcdowell RULES! <3

People who dislike this movie are offended that they dared to trash the heroes. Get over it.

Heston is responsible for ruining the sequel. He should have just done the sequel.

Of the Planet of the Apes sequels that are considered bad this one is definitely the least bad. The 3rd one is definitely the best of the sequels.

1:00 Actually "Beneath" only had roughly half of the budget of the original.
