  • Nice tenor solo, sounds great! Where can i buy this chart? Oh.... fire the sound guy! Thanx, Les

  • Nice tenor solo, sounds great! Where can i buy this chart? Thanx, Les

  • No energy I just dunno how they accompilshed that next time strong coffe with ex ;D

  • 84 people are retarded. SEE YOU SPACE COWBOY

  • i agree these people need alcohol and SEE YOU SPACE COWBOY

  • Awesome!! But ..the Bass? NOOO, it needs a Stand up bass, this song can't be played without a Stand up bass =( !

  • Dudes need to kick over the music stands, stand up, have a drink or two, and put on some shades.

  • could barely hear the base or trumpets there not alot of energy good job tho

  • I can guarantee you that the fault lies with the trumpet section and the drummer (bongos too). Percussion here is just not with it...they play every two and four; that's beach boys, not jazz fusion. Also trumpets aren't agile enough...maybe the 1st is hitting most of his licks, but as a whole they miss all the fast stuff.

Lastly, we cant expect a sax solo like the lead from the Seatbelts, most sax players couldn't emulate that on a good day.

  • @m0rl0rd Hahaha only on rock tunes is it 1 and 3. If there is any jazz to it or if you are doing a jazzier version of a song the emphasized beats are 2 and 4.

  • @TheArt0fWarfare me neither...

  • woooww. this is dope. GREAT PERFORMANCE

  • okay

i play in a jazz band myself

    the thing about jazz

you dont always keep teh style form the original recording

you want a mellower style to it

    GO FOR IT

dont post negatively for letting them use artistic privilege to their own style

    imean the bands name is

    "NuFusion"

  • no one can play the sole as a seatbelt player

  • Suddenly it hit me: the big band jazz just didn't have a big enough band. That's the problem, I think.

  • Comment removed

  • trhere would be more power in it if they moved a little and weren't as statues, and if it wasn't a really dumbed down version of the song.

  • @TheArt0fWarfare of course not or else theyd be internatiol hit and have recorded the entire cowboy bebop soundtrack. lol

  • These guys have failed this song:/

  • It's played well, but it doesn't blow my ass out of the seat.

There's not enough power in it, sry. :/

  • This is why Ill never be in band in college, I love my instrument but these kids obviously arent getting into any of the fun stuff

  • The solo doesn't sound that good because its partially covered by the rest of the band. It's probably the recording equipment's fault

  • that sax solo was not cool at all yo. sorry .__.

  • stop comparing them to the seatbelts. of course the seatbelts to a better job, they are professionals. Keep it up kids, I loved it!

  • that put me in a alternate universe.where i'm all alone not, cool guys.

  • weak drum intro, the drum intro is the very beginning of the song! it should be a KICK IN THE FACE not a simple eighth note progression across the TOMS! what r u drummer? a FIVE year old?

  • @themadderstatt if a 5 yr old is playing then give him some credit for being good at the drums lol

  • @themadderstatt The drummer is doing alright. He just needs to play with way more feeling and impact like the Seatbelts drummer.

  • meh

  • Even this college band isn't using upright!

  • needs more screaming trumpets

  • Not feeling the excitement... the quality is alright nothing to write home about though, oh well.

  • @TheArt0fWarfare you wouldn't feel that much energy from a nuclear bomb

  • cool

  • ehhhh....not as sexy....but WTF happened to the ending solo? since when is a guitar good for ending jazz music?!

  • SMH this shit sucks.....

  • isnt bad

  • They have pretty good dynamics in the beginning!

  • ahh....I see why you're not feeling it "TheArt0fWarfare" it's because those wind players are kinda wimping out on the exciting "dahdah..dahdah..dahdah......dahdah" part like there's no excitement involved in playing but rather just read-to-play feel to it.

  • Man I miss you guys!!! Sounded great on this arrangement too!

  • Mr. Green says:

3...2...1...Let's...jam? Naw...let's hit the pause key and find another video of this tune.

Anyone who likes this crummy arrangement/performance has got to be related to the bandmembers.

    Off topic, but:

Does anyone know if 'Souvenir of Tokyo' is available on DVD?

  • That guy with the Sax is good!

  • ok... this is a picky song amongst fans... DO NOT MAKE IT YOUR OWN!!! I noticed that during the sax solo... wtf... and youve gotta really push it... and bring the notes up... and it... does... in fact speed up in certain areas... overall...? Work on it!! Trumpet? Good job!!

  • This Blows nowhere close to the original

  • yeah the begining is missing the brushy sound the bass makes. and also theres a bunch of shit the drummer just isnt doing- thats where i think it looses alot of its energy. still pretty good tho. they just gotta bang out and play like they want to be there- blow the fucking room up. as argith said "this is a balls to the wall"

  • @drumONdrugs23 "this is a balls to the wall *song* " (my bad argith)

  • Saxes sound like someone missed some notes from 1:08 to 1:10. Trumpets at 1:21 to 1:27, the same. MOAR COWBELL (more bass). Alto solo, that should be 8va. Guitar solo ruins the feel. Feels like the energy isn't that. Part of that is a lot of the crescendos that weren't so noticeable in the original. This is a balls-to-the-wall song. Play it like one! Great effort, though, and so much better than others!

  • no no no no noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo :(

  • THESE GUYS ARE AWESOME, seriously most bands just kill this song, by these guys actually pulled it off.

  • its all in the bass...cuz its jazz...and there isnt enough bass!!! otherwise nearly perfect

  • This has no emotion or rhythm

  • thats some.. interesting liberties with the arrangement...and dynamics...

  • Comment removed

  • Ehh.. It ok but where the ending sax solo?! The end solo is the best part of the song! With gutiars it's not as cool :(

  • Ehhh, it's a nice try but it doesn't have the same character as the original. Also it's missing a lot of hits especially in the bass. Also it's not harmonically the same as the original...

  • Guitar and bass should be doubled one octave on that riff for most of the beginning. Especially the intro. The intro sounds gritty and chunky due to the acoustic guitar doubling on that line.

  • what?? how did these guys even know about this song XD

  • trumpets should be dominating most of this song x.x

  • Not sure if I agree with the swells in the earlier bits. And dumbed down trumpet parts are never good.

  • wait there where trumpets? For the love of all that is holy get your horns up so you can be herd by more than that trombone player in front of you! urgh... The trumpet part should have been screaming over the rest of the band to the point and near overbalance.

  • Haha, I agree. The bane of every trumpet player's existence - posture. Homeboy in the red shirt got a proper posture, and guess what... you can hear him. But he's 3rd trumpet... counter-melodies and harmonies... he's meant to compliment, not dominate, the other trumpets.

Acidblasta, sounds like you were in a jazz band or some other sort of band? Your director constantly scream at the trumpets to get their horns out of the stands? hehe

  • yep played trumpet through high school and into college was a music major tell i got sick... but yeah we got that all the time once our band directer made us play from marching posture tell we fixed it. so we had to constantly keep our horns above a 45 degree angle.

  • ...posted the last one before i heard the end...i didn't like the substituting guitar for sax solo lol. still pretty good :)

  • pretty good! my jazz band tried playing this in high school once lol...fail! :D i could probably try it with my ensemble now tho :)

  • I WISH MY JAZZ BAND WOULD PLAY THIS!

  • woo!

  • Needs just a tad more of the base. That's what I love about the original.

  • @cohenthebarberian spelled bass

  • way to go guys, playing that musta been fun.

  • Man, I wish I could play this with my Jazz Band. I'm first Trumpet and I'm trying to get those high notes. D: They're so high up. I respect these guys for trying to play this song. It's not so bad actually ^^

    Seatbelts rules~!! Cowboy Bebop forever!!

    <3

  • yeah i've heard the original recording and.. DAMN trumpet goes high XD

I'm a trombonist but i know when i hear insane trumpet notes and they always blast in the back of my head xD

  • Sigh... I miss Jazz Band now... I might as well sign up for it soon. I go to Henderson btw.

  • it's to fast and thier is no emphazis on the sound of the trumpets, which makes it sound like crap.

  • it was good but to fast

  • of course they're not going to be as good as the real seatbelts, but they sound pretty good to me.

  • is this really a college level band? saxes way out of tune, listen to each other man. trumpets crackin all over the place. and the whole set up is a little strange. what's up with the soloists? the overall balance of the band is below average to average of a high school/good middle school band.

  • Too fast....and they lost the style of the song :(

  • Of course The Seatbelts are going to sound badass! It's their song. This is just a cover.

  • sounds great!!!! TANK LIVES mufuckaz!!!

  • well done!

  • I think, for what they had, they did quite well. :)

  • yes it sucked hard

  • Wow, just got done watching the live version by the seatbelts and you can tell the difference, other than the volume. Awesome job guys, just got some 'ruff edges is all.

  • love the guitar.

  • And the baaaasssssssssss?

  • sounds like it is being rushed...

  • I don't care about the tempo... I fell they are ruining Tank!'s funk... other than that it's still good... Tank! is hard to do and these guys know how to play... I'll give them a 3 maybe 4 for the diferent solos, LOL!!!!!

  • In my opinion. Not enough Bass. And the Bongos wernt as tight as they should have been. But sounds good for a collage band.

  • The beginning of the close with the guitar reminds me of the guitar solo lead-in on Becker, but that was just the shittiest way you could end that song.

It does the original no justice.

  • bass guitar has no where neer the same effect as the double bass

  • it can get somewhere near it if you have the right equipment, setup and playing technique!

  • yea the bass guitar is too thin. apparently you can get a really nice effect substituting a tuba though

  • @synth77 Agreed!!! I play double bass and I love it more than electric in jazz band except when i comes to funk XD

  • AMAZING!!!...

  • Eeeeeeh.

  • eww, did i just hear a whole tone scale from the guitarist at end, that was ugly, im sorry... not a way to end a song

but overall nice performance and rendition of the song

  • i cant hate on this just because it warms my heart that someone put this much effort into performing a song i love from an anime. good job.

  • this is actually a bit disgraceful

an easy and repetative song cant even be played right by a university ensemble. my high school ensemble does a better job than this, and its actually played according to teh real thing

not only that, but the soloist cant even do fast blues runs or even hit altissimo.

    shame on you.

  • almost every video of Tank! being played by a jazz band on YT is like this dude. too many changes kill the original feel of the song.

  • Tru dat.

  • not a bad sound but man do i not like the set up u guys are using.

  • 1:22 - 1:34... Can we water down the trumpet licks any more? I don't think it is possible...

  • Бас нифига не слышно, трубачи лажают, у всех медников нестроюха. А вот соло у саксофона ништяк. Я бы сказал что даже немного лучше чем в оригинале.

  • best cover of this tune I've heard! Great solos, great feel!

  • OUT OF TUNE

  • I think its time to blow this thing, get everybody and our stuff together. ok, 3 2 1 lets jam.

  • How is that incredible, I didn't realise race had anything to do with music ingenuity.

  • No, but as he was born in Japan he grew up with japanese culture and jazz and such aren't that common in japanese culture...

And alot of other stuff :O.

  • true but she...or he...not for sure...could've listened to jazz music when he/she grew up so deathbyshinigami is right. race doesn't have anything to do with musical intelligence.

  • uh... it was a japanese WOMAN.

    RECOGNIZE, you amoeba.

  • そのとおりやよ

  • ha ha this is the best intrepretation of the original I have seen so far. A lot could of been fixed but the best so far that I have seen except of course the original.

  • This was an amazingly bad ass song to play. I was glad that I got to be a part of this band, so to whoever posted this, thank you!

  • i heard no lead trumpet...

  • The only thing I hate about this is that some of the trumpets were playing into the back of other players heads! YOU CAN'T HEAR those AMAZING trumpet SCREAMS! Thats what MAKES TANK TANK! Otherwise.... ABSOLUTLY amazing recording!

  • This song is good but it would be better with a truly nasty 1st trumpet play. But it is a really good recording of the song!

  • if anyone could tell me where to get the printable sheets of music for this that would be freaking awesome.

  • Check a japanese music site. That's where I would start.

  • Why are people getting butthurt cause this song was "americanized"? You either like it or you don't. I say they did an ok job.

  • People! Arguments concerning music are fruitless. Just enjoy what each culture, band, and region has to offer musically. You can compare, but don't criticize an interpretation just because its not exactly like everything else.

  • I don't truley care about someone making an interpretation of the song. I care about the feel of the music and the mood it makes. This doesn't cut it. If it did, I wouldn't have commented.

  • Hey, these guys get points just for choosing to perform this song.

  • agreed!

  • How does one Americanize a jazz song? I know Tank! is performed and written by a Japanese band but its still jazz none the less. Unless I'm wrong jazz is an American form of music.

  • The stupidity of your comment is currently being discussed on a popular imageboard.

    Enjoy your retardness.

  • Americans?! American's couldn't have created Jazz. The fundamental base for any other type of music that came out of the states?! I don't think so. Jazz muscians created jazz. Not Americans. The way you're putting it, it sounds like you have a bad case of American pride.

  • Most of the Musicians that performed tank were american...

  • Americans from Louisiana in the 1900's did create Jazz OSG. It's great music that people from various parts of the world love. Just like we like classical music that arose from Europe or Gagaku from Asia. Is it so hard to take pride in something that your people made? *Disclaimer* (by taking said advice, it may cure weak heart syndrome)

  • It is American but it came from African and European music traditions, mostly West African. Its well known for being in America in the 19th and 20th century, but few know its origins. I don't see why so many people gave you thumbs down, OSG. You're right. It kind of is American pride.

  • The jazz band at my high school's doing this song. Imma doing guitar. It's weird for us because there's 2 other guitars in the jazz band as well. So we gotta find a way to make that work.the drummer and bass player are solid as all fuck, though I gotta say.

  • the guitar outro was....horrible....the original is much better...im a guitarist and i dont like the outro...noob!...good job otherwise

  • Hard to compete with the original live version, but excellent job!!

  • cute melody...

  • Good performance, but why does the brass band go off tune in the ups and downs?

  • Where do you get the sheet music for this?

  • There is no double bass. WHY IS THERE NO DOUBLE BASS?!

  • there is an electric warwick bass, it is a fusion group so maybe because their other songs that require an electric bass and they couldn't bring both? they are pretty heavy and expensive....

  • But dude.

    They're playing Tank!.

    WITHOUT A DOUBLE BASS.

Just kidding, I know how much those things cost, but the sound and feel of it just fits the song much better than a standard bass.

  • double bass is standard electric is the new thing hahah, and the effect he is using sounds a lot like a double bass. (or at least his amp settings) Actually most jazz is better with a double bass haha. Except for fusion of course!

  • it suck that just to put ---> :D

i need to write more text...

  • the jazz band im in in school is doin it, its sooo much fun!

  • dude i want the sheet music for the band for thins so we can do that in jazz band!

  • i arranged it if you want it

  • id love it if u could get it for me thax ^^

  • id love to know if all the people criticizing are actually musicians who play all these instruments. id like to SEE how good they are.

and of course it was read... they didn't compose it...

  • Thank you. I agree.

  • I don't mean to sound like a jerk, but the fact of the matter is that someone doesn't necessarily have to play saxophone or trumpet to criticize someone else who does. Mind you, it does help, but a person can also offer a good opinion based off of hearing what is accepted to be "good" trumpet/sax playing.

That said, the trumpets really couldn't hit any of the high notes. The sax solo was decent, but clearly based off of scales rather than melody (i.e. lacked phrasing). It was good, otherwise.

  • Here you go. I'm a musician. I've done piano, trumpet, french horn, voice and meddled with percussion, all of which I've played in varying degrees of difficulty and style (including jazz).

This performance was vastly inferior to that of The Seatbelts.

  • hm. not bad.

  • Lay off people. It's good.

  • yeah it's different from the original version but that's what makes it jazz

  • The impression I get is that these guys have never heard the Seatbelts performance, and learned it from paper.

  • why is the trumper part watered sown at 1:22 ?

  • i like the guitar solo....

  • the sax solo is really off... geez

  • You should see the music for the original. Which is why they went with the improv version. We played this last year.

  • Awesome vid, but I missed the count-off and the wicked high trumpet part at the end of the original.

  • wtf?

  • No, no no...i prefer the original version

  • i love cowboy bebop

  • the bass line they play is wrong aswell

  • the real trouble witht this song is that the trumpet part is really high and trust me it's high cuz i play trumpet lol (well maybe high for me only)

  • yeah, its high...unfortunately, all three first trumpets of my high school's jazz ensemble can hit quite a few notes higher than the highest note in the original sheet music in this song. keep practicing, you'll get it eventually!

    we have faith in you.

  • I know, I just stare at the high A on the lead part and cry on the inside.

  • I'm willing to lend the recording some of the blame for the audio..I refuse to believe the conductor would allow the rhythm to be so overpowering, even with such a heavy, funky tune. It really was good, considering how some other covers have turned out. Not the original, but great fun all the same.

I really missed the countoff (3, 2, 1, Let's Jam!) in the beginning, though. Nobody had the guts to get up with a mic and do the intro? :P I would fight for the right, if I were in that group.

  • kinda killed the style

  • i mean i like this arrangement cause it's a octave lower and it seems more manigle for a highschool jazz band with is cool but it would be nice to get a littlemore suport with some more woodwinds and less rythm section

  • i need more sax in this. all of the woodwinds need to pump it up and really slam this.

  • You did great! But the original had more... Punch? Yeah, I think that's the word for which I am looking.

  • That's because the original was an octave or two higher at some of the parts.

  • Some more flutes would be welcome. -_-
