The horadrim destroyed his vessel and sealed him away underneath what would later be the town of Tristram, the Dark Wander, or the warrior from Diablo 1 defeated Diablo who was possessing Prince Albrecht, The hero from Diablo 2 kills Diablo possessing the Dark Wanderer , when the hero shattered his soulstone in hell his spirit was supposedly banished forever... Ah, don't get the soulstones and worldstones messed up.

The soulstones were stones used to trap the demons in, but they managed to corrupt them over time to give them more power instead of trap them, but by crushing them you also set them free.

The worldstone was a stone made to enforce the barrier between hell and earth, with that gone the barrier will start weakening.

Oh and terror hate and destruction can never truly be killed. They will only return to hell where they will grow once again

Um, yeah I've beat Diablo 1, 2 and the expansion, and if you knew the storyline, you'd know that Diablos soulstone got destroyed and that means hes gone, forever, so it cant be him, and if it is, then theres a serious flaw in Blizzards storyline and I doubt they'd make a mistake like that.

The soulstones destruction Doesn't mean he's dead, the prime evils can't be killed. the story holds that some time ago the prime evils made there way into sanctuary (the world in Diablo), and since they couldn't be killed they were trapped using the soulstones. Over time they corrupted the stones and so managed to free each other. By destroying the soulstones you free them from this trap thats holding them in sanctuary and by defeating them banish them back to hell.

This is all well and good but at the end of LOD Tyrael is forced to destroy the now corrupt Worldstone which served as a protective barrier since sanctuary's creation. This presumably leaves the world open to the forces of hell Like never before.

I hope the story line is as good as the previous ones. I really loved the script in Diablo II so I'd always listen to the characters without skipping. Even now they're very enjoyable games... Well, actually the Balrog thingy is Diablo himself. The idea of making game Diablo, as the mythical lord od Destruction, came to Blizzard with Diablo I game in 1997. Whereas LOTR: Followship of the Ring came in 2001, althroug the quality is ofc different, not to mention "diablo" as a devil came up already few centuries ago, and "balrog" creature came much later. Google "Diablo" and "LOTR Balrog" pictures, you should get my point.
