  • Though this happened several years ago. XD Great job.

  • It was a little slow in my opinion. It doesn't sound that good to be honest but for a high school band playing a college level piece, not bad honestly. Dynamics weren't good. But the important thing is, you had fun. Sounds like though you guys rarely practiced. :P I'd recommend telling that teacher to start breaking down difficult parts so you guys can play them better.

  • I PLAYED THE CLAVES!! our band director is stupid. In our rehearsals, all we practiced was scales and tuning.

  • @freakin1random

That's bad. That should be done at your own time.

  • the whip and gourd was the best. for the percusion at least, im not to good with anything else

  • oh brendan! we sucked SO much!! hahaha!

D: i wish we were alot better... thats why i quit band. :[

  • @diana102393 :D Haha good times. We did suck, but you can't say it wasn't fun.

  • Were was the bass clarinet on that soli section?

  • @Bandgeek11393 Yes. There was even a Contra Bass clarinet.

  • A good effort.

The tempo dragged and sped up soo many times.

Tuning is a major issue here.

    Intonation as well.

Lack of dynamics was also in effect.

Now I play horn myself and this is not a challening piece notes were not hard. And i also understand that horns are hard to tune but you do have a hand to tune. Here the chords and play. And what happened at the muted section.....My gosh.

You guys had a great attempt. Thank you for posting =D

  • it wasn't perfect, but i always appreciate a good effort. :)

    don't listen to the haters

just do what you have to do to get better everyday :)

  • Maybe it's cause we have such a large band, I don't know, but at the Lowery Freshman Center we're only freshmen (duuh), and we can play this piece quite well compared to this.

  • This band was not ready to play this piece.

  • i dont get why in high school symphonic bands u girls have to wear those long gowns and guys hav to wear a tux

  • supposed to be a tuba solo... i have played this song before... that tuba solo could be SO SO much better... DYNAMICS... you need a broader spectrum; tubas you never decrescendoed or crescendoed on that solo... Please learn how to breath impulse and tongue

  • yikes

    sorry but this was horrible

  • Not one good thing about it, eh?

  • I apologize, I know that sounded REALLY harsh of me, but...it just wasn't great, unfortunately

  • Nobody cares what a bari sax player thinks. They have the easiest part in the entire band, which is why I quit playing bari sax after one year.

  • ok, dude, first, just because someone plays bari sax doesn't mean that they don't know when music sounds good or not. second, I DON'T play bari. sax anymore, I play flute and I played flute when I made that comment. I know that comment I made 5 months ago was a little harsh, but if the band isn't ready to play an arrangement full of runs and accidentals (refering to your earlier comment) then you should try and play it.

  • typo, i meant to say if the band isn't ready to play an arrangement full of runs and accidentals then you SHOULDN'T try to play it

  • Although everything that has been said is true (dragging, rushing, intonation issues, color problems, etc.), my biggest concern is the lack of dynamics in the piece. The whole thing feels very limited in terms of dynamic contrast. I really don't think I heard anything below a mezzo-forte. If anything, the bottom end of the dynamic spectrum can be explored a LOT more, which will also serve to bring out some new and interesting colors and textures throughout the ensemble.

  • i love this piece and i totally boom it out on my bass clarinet!! listen at 3:27 and 6:42

  • hunny...if u were somewat of a good player or had an good director you would kno that a bass clarinet is not supposed boom out but to try and blend their sound into rest of the bassline to make a louder blended bass sound.....

  • Heh. No, you're supposed to play really loud to prove to the brass that they don't have a monopoly on the low notes. :-)

  • that would be the point of blending into the rest of the bassline...inexperienced one.

  • Heh. I've been playing clarinet, bass clarinet, contrabass, and occasionally tenor sax and Eb since February 1976. By now, I'm firmly entitled to type with tongue firmly in cheek. How long have you been playing?

  • First of all, stop being a jackass that thinks that they know everything there is to know about music. Second, she was obviously making a joke..... retarded one.

  • Comment removed

  • lol the horns need a lot of work in this...t-dones weren't that bad, i kinda liked it. percussion was good

  • fuck it i change my mind

im going to have to be an asshole for a second

but usually you can tell within the first couple weeks whether your band is going to be able to play a certain song well enough to perform and this just isnt acceptable

i heard rushing, dragging, intonation problems, rhythmic errors, wrong notes, squeaks, people not playing together and what else?

we scored 5 superiors and 1 excellent on this at county and were taking it to state next week

  • Well good for you!

We're are not the BEST band in the nation (take my word for it) but we're still proud to play in a band.

  • i dont think i can describe how horrible this was in under 500 characters so ill just use 92

  • yikes . . awful intonation.

why so many wrong notes on a technically easy piece?

I'm afraid this band just isn't talented enough for this piece. Sorry.

  • what ever

  • Don't be a douchebag. For most high school students, this is a very advanced piece of music, and some never get to the level of playing 12 sixteenth notes in a row where there are random accidentals on every other note on the run. Every band has good players and bad players, maybe this band has a lot more bad players, but the director has to provide something for the good players to learn.

  • @johnBjohnBjohnB Whats a "douchebag"? I get called that all the time, but I'm not sure what it means. I am so totally confuzzled!

  • It's a name similar to jackass, or egotistical bastard.

  • @johnBjohnBjohnB

yep, even the bass clarinets have that run :(

We either treat it like a glissando, or don't play.

but we get a nice soli, and even a fake solo! I love this piece, but I doubt we will play in our concert.

    @jeffington- a douchebag is a general insult.

an actual douchebag is an unhealthy device for a girl to "clean" herself. It actually makes her smell worse, and causes other problems

  • So this is really good. Our band is playing it for adjudications. It is a little slow, but really awesome!!! What group is your marching band>

  • Its this whole group. Search JBHS Marching Indians :)

  • i love this song our symphonic band is playing this i LOVE the bass clarinet part!! cause i play that part

  • Yeah, so is the bassoon part! :)

I miss playing this song :(

  • played this freshman year, favorite song everrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

    i play bass clarinet.

    my part was awesome

  • ok so im playing this piece in band and i think that it is a little sloppy Joe and it could go a lot faster and bring out the gourd more.

  • Maybe the presto should be faster?

The whole song seems to be kind of slow.

  • My hat is off to any high school band that attempts this one. It's a fantastic piece.

  • at my school i gotta play the glaves and something else, so this gave me an idea of what to do, and nice playing

  • omg that was the best year of my life this year sucks though cuz all the good players left

  • The clarinets could use more

    articulation at 3:28

    but overall nice!

I loved playing this when I was in symphonic band

  • I will be playing bass clarinet for this piece... it is our audition piece to get into symphonic band.

  • Good luck :)

  • complicated but nice.

  • oh god...oh god....oh GODD!!!! (or buddah)

i'll be the only oboe next year!!!

  • omg BRENDAN!!! YOU SOUNDED SO AWESOME WITH YOUR SOLO AT 6:42!!!! rofl and galina was ok too XD jk she was good. :D You guys were awesome!!
