I couldn't agree more with everything you say. I love doing projects and am almost disappointed when I come to the end of an enjoyable project. There is something magical in being able to build something of worth and of good standard. Thanks for all your vids. I am only too aware of the time and effort it takes to put something decent out there. Thanks again and may we meet in heaven one day.
You at least will understand when I say that after I get finished fighting the government one of my plans is to build my wife and I our new home. I think you are doing great. Getting stuck is just part of the adventure and learning. Thanks for the videos and the interesting adventure.
@wranglerstar haha, hes just an actor, your friend reminds me of him. I started collecting ol axe heads and rehandling them thanks to you.... jerk. But honestly, your videos are great, a breath of fresh air, hope to see, and learn, more.
Just imagine doing all of that while the forest is burning!!! As a wildland firefighter, I know how deadly snags can be as every so often a firefighter dies because of one. Be safe around the equipment, especially the winch! Good luck in your endeavor!
this vid hade me on the edge of my seat. the title alone made me wonder "death" to who? or what? the cat pulling on that tree i was wondering if it was going to fall on the cat or if the cable or chain were going to break.. hoss is a brave man to stand there. and the actual DEAD tree ... I almost fell from my chair... great vid Cody... Thumbs UP!!
I know that while i've helped a farmer friend just north of Madras build his cabin, we did it by strict spec. He's kind of a perfectionist but taking a considerable amount of time sawing logs, (we did all of the cutting with a chain saw) was one of the keys to doing it right, doing it slowly. an excellent resource for cabin building is from the swedish resources. the cabin we've been working on is just off highway 26 at the intersection of fir ln. on the agency plains a few miles north of town
Just responded to another video of you falling trees, got it now that you are building a log home. Thanks and can't wait to see your videos on your log home construction !!! Love it to see your experiences ie Learn by doing. Also love to see that you are using materials from your land.

This is what I call reality tv...you show the failures as well as successes. I am curious just how far your new house will be from a major road? It looks remote for sure. Also, what are the plans for emergency medical situations (i.e. heart attacks, ect)?
Hey Cody, when you get a spare minute I've got a large hickory nut tree that I'm going to be taking down, oh and bring your big saw mines not big enough !!! LOL... I know what you mean about hard work clearing land my wife and I did the same thing 22 years ago and now we can sit back and enjoy it . thanks for another great video and be safe.
That was an awesome vid, Cody! You give a pretty good idea of what it takes to clear land and how dangerous it can be. Thank you for sharing! Keep up the good work and Keep sharing the knowledge!!!
Dude....that was cool. Had me on the edge of my seat for a sec. Have you thought about turning this into a reality show. I bet that History Channel would pick it up.
Awesome video! I really like the way you incorporated time-lapse photography into this video - it enabled us to see how the work gets done in a short amount of video time. Thank you so much for sharing this project with us!
I am really appreciative of these video journals you are doing, cody, about your homestead project. I wish to do something along the same lines myself sometime. Stay safe, and god bless. Looking forward to more.
For the 12 x 16 foot cabin we built we didn't use any heavy equipment, we had to hoist the logs up using a log ramp and ropes or by hand. We stripped the bark off the logs by hand with draw knifes, we had to peg it with rebar as we went up on the door and window side. The most time consuming part of the 2 by 2 thick cement foundation we had to pour to be to code with the county (five yards of concrete). First log (sill plate log was flattened on one side and bolted to to foundation.
sorry guys i'm actually quite tech savy 25+ years on pc's the net ect. I guess we all goof. Keep up the good work cody <- guy that emailed you about OPSEC
I am very intrigued. How/ where do you get land like this. Is it under the Homestead act? Forgive my ignorance, I live in one of the biggest cities in the US. I WOULD LOVE to purchase a patch of land and build a home. Seems like you are in the middle of no where. I thought I would have to move to Alaska to have this type of opportunity.
I know how you feel about working these jobs,I am ready to stop and go at it for myself.Nice vid.

whats with the video quality of this one? Your video's are normally much better..
JohnCaven312 1 year ago
@JohnCaven312 if by quality you mean the image resolution... this vid has default set at 240p when its usually higher... just click on a higher res.
bk119957 1 year ago
@JohnCaven312 When a youtube vid first comes out, the higher definitions don't immediately show up. Try to refresh the video and you'll see.
