The best thing about Nicolas Cage is that he is utterly shameless. He takes every role he gets and plays it to the best of his ability. Sometimes it's brilliant, other times it's campy, often it's ridiculous, but Cage is devoted to the role regardless of what it is. And the thing is that he is so damn enjoyable to watch, even if the dialogue is absurd or the plot thin. This is why I think he is a great actor, because he devotes himself to his characters and doesn't give a shit what people think.

@Hamgammy I think that's why he gets so much grief to be honest. He puts as much effort into good roles as he does shit ones. If the film's writing is good, and he picks it up, it's going to be a fucking great film 100% of the time. But the problems occur when he goes for shit films with shit roles and tries to act them out as if they're actually worth his time. Because when that happens, he kinda just becomes a parody of himself.

Although saying that.. Whilst some of the films he's gone for have had seriously shit writing, and that some would argue that he makes poor choices in which films he auditions for, I have to respect the way that he just seems to go for films that HE likes the look of. He doesn't seem to give a shit if it will be successful or not. If a role interests him even a little, he just seems to go for it and gives it his all. I think that's pretty cool, no other actors do that.

@yafser It's because a lot of people and critics expected him to become another Marlon Brando or Johnny Depp, cause he did "Moonstruck", "Honeymoon in Las Vegas" and "Leaving Las Vegas" and they were all performances that were more than great, they were different to what anybody had seen, he brought a new perspectives and a new angle to films and the critics feel their expectations were betrayed and feel dissapointed when he does a summer blockbuster instead of oscar contender films

or rather they know what they are going to be asked and they know how they should answer because as soon as he was questioning here whether he drank at school, he came out with his story, straight away. This same process seems to go for every celeb that comes on any talk show. Normally your asked a question and you take a moment to go through remembering and thinking of how to explain it to others, these never do.

@PastafariiChick yeah, i think they do it on purpose. they try not to show their true selves i remember alot of the really elite actors feel it hurts them to show the way they really are to their audience. something like the more an audience knows about you then the harder it is for them to reslly believe you're the character you play on screen. so they kinda just adopt this character persona when they do these interviews.
