this was a great movie becuase it maintained its four color comic book look, unlike certain other movies of crimefighters featuring a winged flying rodent...
I cant believe there were 3 different albums released for this movie and this song is no where to be found on any of them. instead on that I am breathless albulm we get a song titled back in business that sounds nothing like the song in the actual movie.
This movie is incredible. It captures the style of the comic so brilliantly. The sets, the makeup, the music, the casting, everything is just brilliant.
You cannot help but love the villains, with such wonderfully wicked characters like Big Boy, Flattop, Itchy, Influence and Pruneface, you just gotta smile when you see them spread chaos in this catchy musicalnumber!
He's right.. it's not Madonna singing. Madonna has a song inspired by Dick Tracy on her album called Back In Business and it's a completely different song. Melody and everything. This is a nice song too though whoever it is.
Yes it is; Madonna has had so many changes in style, people who have only known her for the past eight or so years wouldn't recognize her in one of her earlier vids. Trust me, it's her; I'm old enough to remember when this movie came out *and*when she made her debut.
Dick Tracy is very original, unique and funny movie. Warren Beatty was great. Madonna was no less impressive. Nice to know that she has not only "flop movies" but such great hits like this one.
Actually that's not it. The song Madonna sings is a different song, but also entitled Back In Business. It's a slower song... (Don't know why they had to confuse us like that.) Anyway, I scoured the web some more and I found the version that's featured in this video. It's in a boxset of songs by Stephen Sondheim called "The Story So Far...". Thanks for your reply though! :) I'm so glad I finally know where to purchase this song!
I don't recall the brutal mob violence scenes. Anyway, there is Flat Top. I read he was a favorite of the comic strip fans who "mourned" when he died in the strip. Out of all the villians you see, Flat Top is the "Joker" or top villian, right?
Yes, Flat Top was the most popular; Big Boy Caprice, however, was the most powerful. Flat Top was actually killed TWICE. Fans were so outraged at his death that Chester Gould "resurrected" him and had him killed a second time!
My favorite Tracy villain is Influence, played by Henry Silva (the one in the green suit and the "monkey" makeup). He was never an important character in the strip, but his makeup is the best: just fanciful enough to not be real, and more frightening than ridiculous.
this is the still unreleased track from the Dick Tracey film. Vocals superbly done by Manhattan Transfer's Janis Siegel and Cheryl Bentyne with singer/songwriter Lorraine Feather.
Indeed, and, like all the other songs in the film, written by Stephen Sondheim in his inimitable style. This sequence was originally going to have an instrumental piece over it; that was written by Danny Elfman and actually recorded. (It's a cool tune.) Madonna then said she wanted to take a crack at it, and of course wrote and recorded her own song for the montage that got rejected in favor of this great song. Wish they'd release it but at least it's FINALLY on Youtube. THANKS!
is this slightly sped up or something?
no matter, grand song!

Damn, Tracy's behind bars, Tess is missing and their city is falling apart! If this keeps up, there won't be a city left!

madonna doesn't sing the one in the movie and the lyrics are slightly different as well as the speed
DaLovelyOne5 3 years ago
Indeed, but I think this is definitely the superior version. It is much truer to the spirit of the period I think.

Apparently, being the girlfriend of the most controversial plainclothes cop in the city is enough to get you mentioned in a front-page headline.
