  • i make 1000 of these views.

  • Best song i ever heard before. The sounds, and Tim Riley is AWESOME! :D

  • Awesome!!!!

  • lol, they're still clapping and adjusting their toupee's and high fiving and riliy's already in the dressing room.

  • Jay is one of the four greatest tenors ever in my opinion.

  • Jay Parrack is probably one of my favorite tenors of all time, does anyone know if he is still singing anymore?

  • Tim Riley is awesome

  • Great

  • This is literally insane.

  • Absolutely love this song!!!! Found Gold City on Pandora Radio and found them on here as well. As a Pentecostal Holiness preacher, I agree with every word of this song and the entire group, especially the powerful bass singer, Tim Riley, and tenor Jay Patrick really hit home with an urgent message from God that we cannot ignore. It's a great song, but don't forget what their singing about. God is building a church to take out of this world very soon and I hope everyone who reads this check

  • Magnificent !!!

  • This is my favorite version of Gold City!

  • Love this song!! I love their tenor and bass :) great job!

  • such an asset to the best of quartets!!!!!!!! Excellent fellas!!!

  • NOOOO-BODY compares to Tim Riley

  • I saw this for the first time on Precious Memories and was very blessed with this song, bless you all

  • The tenor is Jay Parrick, son of legendary Kingsmen tenor Johnny Parrick.

  • hehe, i like this video because all the Gaithers are in aw at the quartet! that's so funny

  • What an exciting group....How bout that bass!

  • wowowowowowowowowowowowowow!!!!! gratest quartet ever!!! can you tell me the name of the tenor?

  • Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't that Mark Lawry at 1:23?

  • @rml695 yes it was

  • @hoover4000 when was this

  • @rml695 hi.....so nice...

  • what year did this video come out?

  • I found the lyrics, I'd like the music if anyone has that. Or direct me where I can get it.

  • IS very good, is me favourite for audio

  • WOW good job timmy!!! i have sang bass for a long time but nothing like tim!!

  • Are you sure that's a G1? Sounds like an A1 to me. Either way, very impressive!

  • hay you know the two girls in green on the front row. They are the martins there my cusins. cool hu?

  • Honestly, it's disappointing because I am a bass singer and I understand how amazing Tim Riley is, but no one gives their lead Tenor any love. He's just as impressive in his own respect as Tim. This whole group in general is absolutely amazing. Does any one have any idea of some other good songs with this bass/tenor combo that are pretty good?

  • @foncker63 I'm Not Giving Up is another really good Gold City song... You would probably like that one as well

  • Hoover4000, I have to thank you for turning me on to Gold City. It was this very song that started me listening to them a couple of years ago. Love this line up of GCQ members--especially Tim Riley. Now, I cannot stop listening to them! Can't wait to see them live when they come to Illinois! Keep the songs coming. Take care and thanks again!

  • He makes the G1

  • Just wondering if anyone knows where I can find the lyrics to this song? Most times it is easy to find lyrics, but I can't seem to find them for this song. thanks for any help.

  • @ourhappyfamily4 I have the lyrics to this song if you have never found them. my quartet sings this song.

  • just type in "Gods building a church lyrics" into google and it should be one of the first few, thats what i did :-)

  • i found the lyrics if u want

  • haha, what a bass voice! Go Tim Riley! This is one of my favourite songs from Gold City

  • @odbranak I was blessed enough to here them IN PERSON a few days ago! Tim Riley literally shook the pews!!!!!

  • wish i could find the karaoke version of this if anyone know's tell me?

    ~Hunter~

    God Bless

  • Hunter, Gold City used to sell a cassette with the songs from that album (including this one), but unfortunately, it is out of print. I believe you can still find accompaniment tracks for this song by other companies (not the original, but the same song at least.)

  • hands down my fav. Gold City song. I remember when I seen them a little bit after this song came out. Great bunch of guys

  • GAHHH TIm Riley is AMAZING

  • Che figata pazzesca!!!

Sarebbe il mio sogno poter cantare in un gruppo così!

    Grandissimo Tim!!! G1!!!

  • This is my kind of music!!! Tim is great with the bass vocals. I love it.

  • Absolutely the BEST EVER Gold City Lineup! Great Song...wonderful!

  • I LOVE this song, it may be my most favorite Gold City song~~this Gold City was my favorite group~~ they are all good, Jay Parrack is the absolute best!

  • WLgrad05.......the video is called "The Dream" Gold City made that song with The Old Time Gospel Hour Quartet! Halarious!

  • im looking for a song too hoover. i think it is gold city. they are riding the but to taco bell and someone dont want to sound like sandi patti. sorry if thats not making sense but thats all can remember

  • Absolutely love this song...Gold City is fantastic!

  • I am trying to find a song. Don't know the name. Hoping someone can help me. My pastor's wife used to sing it. Early 90s.

Lyrics: He's the one that I live for

I want to live my life so that others can see Him more

I want to live my life for Jesus

    Crown of thorns.Cross of nails

He gave His life for me

    Crucified, He didn't fail

...... I want to live my life for Jesus.

She said it was Gold City. Is anyone familiar with it?

  • this vid is awesome! i totally luv it!! lol

  • Yeah, Im a baritone, Ive been trying to move more towards bass cause I like the bass parts better. Unfortunatley I will never be as low as Tim Riley, he is amazing.

  • Dude me and you have the same life story! haha

  • LOL......is that Justin Fennell at 1:39/40 back in the days of "hair"?

  • Can I get this arrangement anywhere? I love this song and I think I want to this for my church

  • our quartet will be working on this song

  • my church did this and this person named jay was so funny

  • J.D. Sumner is about as low as it gets. But I would rather listen to the words of the song than worry about all that!

  • but can he sing ? if he's lower than Tim Riley AND can sing, he could make a huge impact on leading people to Christ =]

  • that bass singer is awesome but my dad could go lower than that like 5 notes

  • cool!

  • dude you posted the same thing in another video. get a video up here of your dad singing lower than a G1 and we will believe you. no fry, please.

  • it's an Ab1 XP

    (hehe)

  • UUHHH....then your dad is better than one of the best bass singers in the US. Why isn't he famous??

  • Why isn't your dad famous?? Not putting him down or you down....but what happened??

  • I love how they have one of the best if the best basses and also one of the best tenors in gospel music.

  • ...Not to mention the lead, Jonathan, and the barytone, Mark. They too are very gifted and talented singers....unfortunately good barytones often don't get the attention and credit they deserve

  • thats why theres a mark trammel trio and lefevre quartet (Gold Citys old baritone)

  • what homecoming video was this on???

  • 1:25

  • OMG! Ilike it... great bass singer!! Come on TIM... :-)

  • Great song.I'm roumanian but Ilove this songs!!!!!!God bless you!

  • I LOVVEE THIS SONG!! .. Greeat song..

    Ooohh loovvee the Basss!!

  • Good luck, rofl.

  • Tim retired from the group, but I think he still owns the rights to the group and occasionally performs with them. They were one of the all-time great male quartets, just behind the Cathedrals and the Statesmen and just ahead of the Stamps and the Kingsmen.

  • Tim still owns the group. I don't know if he performs with them anymore though.

  • He does on very special occasion.. but his last permanent position was filling in until they found replacement.. now he just owns and watches his son (who now sings baritone for them) do what he used to!

  • Love this! What a great lead vocal!

  • Tim is great bass like J.D Sumner , Big Chif and London Parris,Ilove this quartet and Ilove this song.

  • Yes tim is a great bass like J.D Sumner, Big Chif , London Parris .I'm romania(a country in Europe) but I love this songs and this groups.THEY ARE GREAT.Good blessyou!

  • i love this group! My sister says that the bass singer sounds like he's farting through his throat but shes a nut

  • i remember seeing paul downing in concert 100 years ago, and man he was unreal low.

his natural talking vocal range was like double low c

  • Who's the lead tenor singer? His voice is so unique and poweful. Does anyone know what year this was filmed? Keep it up man!

  • At the time it was Jay Perric. He has since left so has Tim.

  • Jay Parrack is his name.

  • THEY are greaat!

  • I saw them in concert (these guys) years ago. The tenor & the bass were outstanding & it was interesting to hear the blend...sounds great !

  • it`s cool to see other famous singers there :) the tenor and the other one is a bass singer, can`t remember their names.

  • I also love the reaction by David Phelps at 1:39

While David has vocal mastery at the high Tenor range ...

... he cannot do what Tim Riley does ...

... who has vocal mastery of low Bass ...

A video snapshot of one gifted singer showing his respect to another gifted singer.

  • My knowledge of Gold City is quite recent

(no further back than when I entered Youtube) ... so I have no emotional attachment to any singer.

Having said that ... this is the best grouping I have seen for Gold City.

The contrast between Tenor and Bass (with the Lead/Baritone) ... ... is simply awesome ...

I would dearly love to purchase a "best of"

DVD video with this group that has:

    God's Building a Church ...

In Time, On Time, Everytime ...

    I'm Not Giving Up ...

  • The tenor is more like an alto, don't know if I like his timbre. I like Tim Riley though.

  • Jay Parrack is Johnny Parrack's son. They did a CD together a few year's ago, too. It's a whole bunch of great songs sung by two great tenors. (It gets pretty high-sounding, too.)

  • LOL 2:47 Glen points at the bass going "yeah you hit that note". Awesome song!

  • @Piano451 I love it when Glen turns to Larry Gatlin and says, "THAT'S BASS!"

  • aaaaaaaah!!! My other song! I love these guys, tho I laughed at him at first:) I was barely more than a child. Thank you for these videos!

  • so damn good. im not even religious but thats just great singing. tenor and bass are ridiculous

  • who's the bass singer? Tim Riley?

  • that's right, Tim Riley.

  • who is the tenor?

    he's awesome!

  • the tenor is Jay Parrak

  • I love this song. Can we get the lyrics?

  • omg i saw david phelps at 1:26 lol

P.S. i barely see him on these songs

    very good song btw

  • How old is the tenor? He looks a lot younger than the rest of them.

  • Not sure if my information is right, but, isn't Jay Parrack related to former Kingsmen tenor John Parrack?

  • Tim Riley--up there in the top bass singers of all time--don't forget GC put out 2 or 3 best songs of all SG history..."There Rose a Lamb"..."Midnight Cry"...

  • dont you meen 'down there' with the best...

    anyway, he is truely mind-boggeling.

  • could somebody post the lyrics please.

i'm from germany and doesn't understand everything.

  • wow, the bass is very incredible, im so amaze, keep it up sir, nice to see that you are using your talent in God, God bless, miss hoover tnx for this video, God bless

  • Gold city is pretty much awesome... range is amazing.

  • i feel like jumpin right now!

  • 1:40 - You can see David Phelps saying "he's good"...now THAT'S a testament. I'm new to Christianity so I'm not familiar with all the good music out there but I just happen to catch this video last night on the Gaither show...I had to hear it again and I knew it would be on youtube. These guys are phenomenal. That bass singer is crazy good.

  • Does anyone know who the tenor is? I love his voice! It gives me goosebumps. what a great, great song!!

  • jay parrack

  • @valerie68505 yes, he tocks! it's a shame he isn't with the group now :(

  • i feel like running!

  • tim riley..legendary. Jay Parrack..glad to have known him for 6 years..this is the best quartet they've had to me. Every body check out my videos btw

  • Of course the bass is amazing, but so is the tenor, incredible. He hits those C#s and D5s with such ease and accuracy. The chord on "purified", every time it returns, is one of the best sounding chords in vocal music I have ever heard. Mad props

  • These guys are unbelievable! Fantastic!!

  • This is an incredible performance. There's something almost hypnotic about it . . . !

  • at 2:10/2:11, does tim hit a f1?

  • The note I think your asking about is when they are singing sanctify, glorify... and when he hits his low note that isn't as audible as on other versions of this song is a low A. One step up from his low G's he sings. Awesome!

  • no he hits A1 but thats deep enough

  • yeah, it was hard to tell. thanks!

He does hit those g's in the second chorus

  • And to add insult to injury, Tim can pop those low notes and you can actually still understand what he is singing. very articulate. AMAZING!

  • thanks for the full video hoover

  • love this group!!!! mary11848

  • I can't even sing the tenor part... and I'm a girl. Then again, I'm also an alto... naturally. But my music teacher had me singing soprano for ACSI. I never could figure out why... maybe it's 'cause I'd NEVER taken music class b4 (homeschooled! :D), and it was easier for me to sing the melody than the harmony. I'll get it eventually, though... I hope! :) But that tenor can sing crazy high! I LOVE quartets! WOOOOOOOooooooooooo!!!! God's building a church!

  • All of the bass singers can't keep their eyes of Tim Riley, first you see Brock Speer moving to the side to see Tim, at 1:58 another bass singer (don't know his name) looking on in amazement, 2:27 Gene McDonald can't stop smiling, and 2:39 Gene getting down! man this is awesome

  • i accidently gave you a thumbs down,. meant to give you a thumbs up!

  • And the elderly gentleman at 2:48, anticipating the low note, pointing down toward the basement in accompanying Tim Riley's performance.

  • Tim Riley is simply the best, tone and clarity in the lower register

  • Tim Riley is awesome without a doubt... but the lead sung by the tenor is quite amazing as well. Great vocals, great harmonies and what looked like great fun. Fantastic post.

  • I know Mark Lowry has seen and heard it all, but look at his reaction to Tim's ripping low notes.

  • That tenor sings so high! My dad showed me this, and I loved it. My dad is really into quartets, and I like them too. The base is really, low, too. :)

  • Tim Riley is Awesome!!!

  • It's a shame that the Gaither's don't have Gold City on more. They have to be in the top 2 or 3 groups in Southern Gospel

  • How can I get the lyrics of Gold City's music? I've never found these on internet.

    Thank you!

  • Even old timers like Glen Payne and Hovie Lister are reacting to Tim's awesome bass singing.....The appreciation all the friends show for each other is blessed....

  • I think they should do a capella. The instruments cover over some of what would be really fun to hear from these guys.

  • when was this video from?

  • I'm pretty sure its from the Gaither video "Sweet, Sweet Spirit"

  • Hey hoover, when is this video from? I would also like to say thank you for posting all of these videos. god bless

  • AWESOME AN POWERFULL BASS!!!

  • Genious - Genious - Genious !!! ***

  • One of the best gospel performances I've ever seen or heard. Great vocals. Southern gospel rocks!

  • Jay - The BEST TENOR EVER

Tim - GREAT BASS, JD Sumner is my favorite though

  • Tim Riley... What a gift from God. He is such an extradinary man. God Bless!

  • Just noticed the reactions of David Phelps and Mark Lowry through the second chorus....you'd think they didn't know who Tim Riley is

  • Gold City-Simply Perfecto!!!!!!

  • In response to simsman1975, The Anchorman"s double live cd in the late '90's with "revive us Again" is the single one greatest album to EVER have been made!!!!!!!

  • Oh my word i sang bass in choir but that guy blows me away with the talent and power he has while bellowing those low notes omg i wish i could have the talent to do that

  • His notes are INCREDIBLE.... such force. NO ONE and I mean that can belt out these notes with that much volume.

  • Take notice that after the final note of the song, the guy standing next to Jake Hess turns around says, "Mercy!!" lol. impressive lung power.

  • Thats Larry Gatlin next to Jake. He and hisbrothers are on several of the Gaither Videos.

  • jay parrack and tim riley and mark trammel make this the BEST gold city ever

  • I'm an atheist-secularist with zero interest in the message of Gospel, but this is great music.

I wish modern pop used contrasting voices this way.
