All putting that into the pledge does is belittles other religions and beliefs. Christians, you are not the only people in the country. Have respect for other beliefs and religions. I mean, I'm willing to say the pledge as long as, "God" is not in it.
Realitically, taking the words "under god" out of the pledge is not a "religious issue" or a "patriotic issue", it is a first ammendment issue. To endorse religion over non-belief is against the idea that all beliefs be respected equally and no religion favored. No one wants to "ban the pledge." They just want to take away the unfair favoring of relgion from the pledge. It's only fair, and just because you want to do what "god wants" doesn't, and never has, mattered when it comes to rights.
