  • The Stig! LOL

  • 2:14 lol the music cue mached up with the start of a new paragraph cool

  • I like to think that the Stranger was caught in a Trap-book in the style of the original ones that Sirrus and Achenar are in, and that these link you to the "floor" of the Star Fissure, essentially making the Stranger an escaped convict.

  • Not sure if i've reviewd this before but damn i remeber this game came bundled with my first PC Years Ago; and i could never get past the mechanical age -- finally gave up, will be watching the whloe LP and the LP's of the other games to see where i screwed up and what i missed -- plus The Stig, classic!

  • 11:55 A goat?

  • Will read book first. Why the Riven music in the beginning?

  • The best game ever.....and the best story teller ever!!! I love the pasion you have for MYST series....After all these years I still love all the games....Riven is my favorite by the way :)

  • "all we know is, he's called the stig" loled so hard at that

  • 9:16

Stranger: Dear God above, what happened last night? HUH?! Wh...where am I? This is...the same as the picture in the book. What on Earth (or off it, for that matter) is going on here? Well, I know one thing, I won't gain anything by just sitting here. I'll have to search for this island's inhabitants, if there are any.

Stranger: Dear God above, what happened last night? (falls back to sleep, but after a beat, opens his eyes, which grow as big as dinner plates) HUH?! Wh...where am I? • I'm currently writing Myst into a short story/novelette. This has been immensely helpful

  • I just realised that I wasn't actually subscribed to you! This injustice has now been rectified. Your Let's Plays are consistently great...I've just finished watching 'King's Quest 4', and now have to decide whether to watch 'King's Quest 5' or this one next :)

  • wow i thought the voiceover at the start with the story was part of the game, maybe i'm too used to expecting scratchy mic crackle and nerds that sound like a mix between napoleon dynamite & spongebob squarepants

  • bah so annoying you get a good story and that's when youtube decides to fuck up and act like it's constantly buffering the video every single other inch even though the buffer bar is all the way across the board

  • You should be a reader for Audio Books.

  • "All we know is, he's called The Stig- Err The Stranger"

Lol can't belive you watch Top Gear.

  • @TheSoldiersMind Why not? After all, it's the greatest car show... in the world.

  • @Dilandau3000 I hate cars, but Top Gear isn't a car show... it's a sitcom!

  • @Dilandau3000 And Kitchen Nightmares is the best cooking show, am I right?

  • Yay!! :D

  • I like your style. And your voice.

  • Haha i beleive you are the stig in myst : D

  • Memories... bad memories... help!

  • Well about time you did this one! Now if only you could do Myst Exile, you'd have the complete series done =D

  • OMG You are LP'ng MYST !!!!!!!!!! Boy am I late to the game, you are on vid 3 already damn!

  • I've only read D'Ni, so it's cool to actually get excerpts from the others.

  • YES!!! Thank goodness I have been looking forward to this series for so long! It's too bad it couldn't be RealMyst but I understand why :)

  • definitely have to watch this, I'm glad you're doing it!

  • I love top gear it's one of my favorite shows

  • Your reading voice is so nice. I love the Myst series and the books as well. Part of me wishes more of the Myst games would come out, but I also believe they ended the series well. I can't wait to watch this Let's Play!

  • Thank you! Even tho I've played this game many times before I'm sure I'll learn new things I may have skipped before thanks to your elaborate explanations, as I did in your previous LPs from the Myst series!

  • @Anielca22 "in the next video" are the saddest words in the english language :)

  • OMG Thank you Dilandau! I will savour these moments!

  • I love Rivens music, its shame Robyn never made any more music like that :(

  • Yay! Intro backstory!

  • Youre doing Myst again! My dreams have come true!!!

  • Do you use ScummVM to run Myst? Is it in a state to be playable? I tried it before and got bugs with the Channelwood age, but with the classic version. I do not have the ME version, that is said to work better.

  • @stuehleruecker No, I'm playing it in a virtual machine with VMWare Player. The Masterpiece Edition needs some additional video codecs that aren't implemented yet in ScummVM, so half the videos don't show up.

  • In regards to the San Fransisco Library one of my oldest memories of Myst (As I was a little boy and watched my brother play) was the very beginning the Myst book was on a pedestal in the center of a circular library and the only direction u could move was towards the Myst linking book. As to whether is was my young mind conceiving this I am unsure... However when I first played Myst as an Adult I noticed it this wasn't the case. I find this odd...

  • "Some say that he found the Myst book in the San Fransisco, and that there he was looking for books about photography... All we know is he's called the Stig... Uhm I- I mean the Stranger." You sir are my hero 8]

  • Out of curiosity, which version of Myst is this? I know it's not realMyst, and I know there was a Myst Masterpiece Edition. So is this that version or the original version?

  • @Phanto5692 This is the Masterpiece Edition.

  • The Stig? Nice! I am really looking forward to the rest.

  • OH MY GOD SVEN I LOVE YOU SO MUCH

  • Yay! Sven- its like all my christmases have come at once! haha Such a surprise to see this come up in my subscriptions.

  • Youe are awesome, Sven. A brilliant game with a very well thought idea and plot. The universe behind Myst is just amazing.

I want to experience that universe from beginning to end. In what order should I read the books and play the games?

  • @Bajamamut I'd say the best order is The Book of Atrus, Myst, Riven, The Book of Ti'ana (although that could be read anywhere, as long as it's before Uru), The Book of D'ni, Myst 3, Myst 4, Uru, Myst 5.

  • @Dilandau3000 I would have put every book in that list at the beginning (since it's all backstory) and conveniently left Myst 4 out. 4 raped the Myst Universe continuity SO HARD!

  • @Dilandau3000 *SPOILERS* I thought it was: D'ni, Ti'ana, Atrus and then the games. After all, in Ti'ana it is explained how Atrus's grandfather met Ana who was the first surface dweller to make contact with the D'ni civilization, right?

Correct me if im wrong but I've read the book of Atrus only and have started Ti'ana just recently.

  • @Lizzardman666 If you go purely chronological, I guess Book of Ti'ana comes before Book of Atrus. Book of D'ni however takes place between Riven and Myst 3, as it is Atrus's experiences in that book that make him decide not to rebuild the cavern but write Releeshan instead.

  • An original Myst LP! It's always fun getting back to the beginning.

The game really doesn't give much to go on, does it? I think half the people who tried wandered around in a daze for awhile asking "Who am I? What do I do?!" It really forces you to think independently :)

  • WOOOOOOO

  • WHat ABout Kings quest IV

  • @PhantomJerad I will be uploading both a King's Quest and a Myst video every day.

  • Indeed this is a nice suprise to get on youtube and see this on my subscription list, thank ya Sven

  • Yay! :D Great surprise since, this morning, I was watching your latest King's Quest IV video, and this had yet to upload.

    Great intro. :D

It'll be the first LP of yours that's a game I've played that I'll be watching as you upload it. (Uru Live doesn't really count since, while I played Uru, I've never played Uru Live.)

  • The effort is definitely seen, even in the intro video. I love the opening with the excerpt from The Book of Atrus, and a brief peek at things to come for the next part (mostly, the island itself).

I can never grow tired of Myst Island, it's such a fantastical place, even all these years (and Myst games) later.

So, how does it feel to be back on the island, doing this adventure once again?

  • Great reading job, Sven!

  • i remember when i first played this game...what a game XD

  • definitly worth the wait!

  • Amazing introduction, great idea and love your narration!

  • :-) Very well done. The scrolling works really well and seems well worth all the effort you put into doing it (there was a lot of effort involved, guys). How exciting to be back at the beginning!

  • @nleonard49 - Yes, I know it takes a lot of effort. I've never done an LP myself (I want to someday) but I have done video editing and so I know the things Sven needed to do in order to make everything good. It's not as simple as it looks! :O

  • @WarthogDemon Plus, he's a perfectionist, so isn't happy unless it's as best as he can make it. And I know he put a lot of thought into how to do this particular LP, and it already shows!

  • So happy you're doing Myst!!!!

  • I actually liked the photographer angle myself when I played this game and read the guide, because that's what I wanted to be at that time.

    Memories.

  • What makes this version different from the original?

  • @WorldChallenge All the images are 24 bits color (the original used 8 bits paletted images, which a single palette for each age, so the images had quite a lot of dithering), and there is a built-in hint system.

  • Fantastic start, Sven. Loved the excerpt from the novel and the accessible commentary for first-time players and viewers. Can't wait to see more!

On a side note, wasn't the strategy guide for Myst released before the novels were written? This could explain why the San Francisco library was used as the location for the Myst book, even if it still doesn't match what we see in the background at the beginning. :-)

  • @thetopcrusader2 Yeah, the strategy guide was released way before most of the backstory was really fixed, and contains lots of inaccuracies. Besides the San Francisco bit, it's also obviously set in present day (rather than 1806) and implies that the stranger could actually read the description of Myst island in the book (and on top of that, it says the description mentions things like the library which Atrus built, not wrote).

  • After Myst, you should also do Myst III.

  • I'd rather loved to see you do a Let's Play of Myst V, considering there is a good Let's Play from the first one done by ShadyParadox.

But on the other hand, he did it for 'Real Myst' so it will be interesting to compair it to the original Myst.

Will there be a Let's Play of Myst V in the future?

  • @Konstantine666 I have already done a Let's Play of Myst V, a long time ago...

  • @Dilandau3000

wow, now I feel realy stupid, how could I possibly miss that one? o.0

    Well, my apologies.

But as I said, I'm realy looking forward to this one too! :D
