This is actually a common misconception: while yes it is illegal to record audio with an "eavesdropping" device without the consent of all parties there are several problems with this being applied to northside copwatch. First a video camera has been repeatedly upheld as not being an eavesdropping device. Second we video record mostly from visible locations where the officers can see our camera: they see the camera, they know it is recording, they don't say anything, this qualifies as consent.
Third we only video record police activity, police are public servants thus it is in the public interest to monitor their activity. See Cassidy vs ABC.

You can not record audio without both parties constent in Illinois.
