  • my friend's d pad broke the same exact way. only diff is he was playing ultimate marvel vs 3. glad they will send a new one ima let him know.

  • no point taking it back to the shop every time its broken. just put some strong glue on it.

  • the twisting dpad is only a slight improvement over original but it still sucks dick.

Just get a hori ex 2 turbo, best dpad ever!

  • @axelgear666 I'm not joking btw the hori ex 2 dpad is comparable and even surpasses the snes dpad to my astonishment

  • The same exact thing just happened to my d-pad for the same exact controller (silver)...

  • no real. chrome for forty bucks

    say what

  • My dpad flew off in the middle of a match in SF. I was noticing it wasn't responding well to my inputs and I just thought it was because I was too used to my PDP versus pad (which also broke, which is why I was back to this). I still finished the match with no dpad -- and won (godlike lmao), but this seems like a widespread problem. I will be contacting MS about it as well.

They just should have released it in the plus mode to help durability. I never flip it back to the disc.

  • my second one is about to break after two months of umvc3, i'll have to stop playing and that's just wrong

  • @hellion131 I know it's wrong but there IS only one thing we can do, I posted this earlier so I'll just tell u k. Buy a new one and return the broken one and get ur money back, works every time at different stores of course. Try it, I did it 3times already and I didn't spend a dime. Just make sure u keep ur controller in pristine condition so they can't tell the difference k. Your Welcome. LoL

  • My D-Pad broke while playing Sonic Generations :( and I LOVED this controller :( I still use it for CoD though lol.

  • Yeah, my controller broke while I was playing dark souls, which requires the use of the d-pad quite often.

  • This JUST happened to me. It shot off with quite a force. Just glad it didnt hit me in the eye. Did anyone find an aftermarket retailer? I'd like to do it myself.

  • If you're a "hardcore street fighter player" you'd be using an arcade stick. Nice try though.

  • @icetrey87 Correction, TOURNAMENT players play with the arcade stick. I've been playing Street Fighter for almost 15yrs now Sir. Just cause I don't use an arcade stick doesn't make me any less of a "Hardcore Street Fighter Player". Everyone has their own preference to what they wanna use when they play StreetFighter. Thanks for the comment tho. ;-)

  • @MasterMITSURUGI hey speaking of which, is the d pad good for street fighter 4?

  • @MasterMITSURUGI I'm a hardcore SF player, and I'm playing in my first tourney in Feb, and I swear by pad. I bought a stick after falling for the hype, and while it's nice, if you haven't been using a stick for years already, it's almost pointless. I'm WAY faster and much more accurate and effective on standard, so-called horrible pads. If you like stick, use it.

And btw, yeah, my controller's dpad chipped and broke off lol. *sigh*

  • Dont throw it at the wall

  • @ReFormHD DUDE, why didn't I think of that. Hey EVERYONE, ReFormHD totally figured out why these things keep breaking on ALL of US in THE EXACT SAME WAY. All we have to do is NOT throw it at the WALL, genius. (Being EXTREMELY sarcastic) @ReFormHD - Seriously dude?

  • @MasterMITSURUGI I have the exact same controller, mine didn't break...

  • @ReFormHD Well congrats dude, your obviously NOT a hard core gamer or Street Fighter player. The results & comments on this video speak for themselves. Just cause yours hasn't broken doesn't mean WE'RE doing something wrong buddy.

  • This happened to me yesterday....

  • @Sdotmurr Sorry to hear that dude.

  • SHIT! GEARS OF WAR 3 CONTROLLER BUST LIKE THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Yup same exact thing happened to mine, that is the last time I get a new controller, just get cheap 10.00 controllers from hon kong they work the same

  • mine broke off yesterday, the shit got me pissed, i was in the middle of a skate 1 session, and my other controllers keep disconnecting, fml

  • Same thing happened to my controller today. The part in the middle broke off just like yours. Arggghhhh

  • @Okshutit I'm sorry to hear that.

  • i got the gears of war one on the 17 of September for the launch and it broke off today .. Y cant ms make a product that dose not fail lol

  • @sam49789 Oh wow, that sucks real hard cause it's a L.T. controller. I wish you would have seen this b4 u got it so you wouldn't use the D-pad at all. That would've saved it from coming off. So far my 3RD replacement is still working till this day. I don't only use it for Street Fighter tho & I work 7days a week so I'm not on it as uch like I use to be.

  • You're not the only man. Mine broke off too. Same exact thing happened to me. I searched to see if other people have this problem and you were the first person that came up. Going to see if a local shop can repair mine. That sucks dude.

  • Are you kidding me? I should have checked those materials. Almost bought this sonofabitch. I checked the internal mechanism and it looked alright but I was totally expecting the cross to be made of metal.

It's not about how hard you hit it. As long as it's made of plastic, this solution of a D-pad is going to break eventually.

  • FUCKING FINALLY!! somebody that does not do a review stating the obvious, "umm... yeah it's pretty cool, the buttons are different colors and the d-pad transforms into a cross" You show what we really want to see, does the thing work?, does it last?, does it resist hardcore gaming such as MK9 SSF4? the answer is obvious, THANK YOU SO MUCH DUDE, You just saved like 60 dollars

  • Aw shit. Just bought the Gears 3 version of this controller yesterday.

  • This controller is the scum of the earth. I am not that hardcore of a gamer but I expect my stuff to work properly especially if I pay good money for it. I bought this beginning of this year and it just broke on me. I barely use the D-pad. Fortunate for me I got a little more use out of mine. But Microsoft said "No we no replace it fo you sorry!" I said can I speak to a supervisor same crap there. My controller broke underneath +

  • I just had a similar thing happen, but mine broke below the surface (actually luckily). Called Microsoft, and I've had the controller since January so they told me to go eff myself. Even pulled out all the stops, "can I get the floor manager on the phone", "I've been a customer for 10 years", etc. etc. Nothing.

So I did what any respectable gamer/tinker does, I pulled the controller apart to check it out... A few minutes, a little super glue and sand paper later - Good as new. Maybe better

  • @BobDaGrump Really? Ok.

  • @MasterMITSURUGI Actually ya, not sure if you're into modding controllers but I can now say I've taken all of my xbox equipment apart - system, accessories, etc. It's not difficult at all if you have the correct torx wrench and don't mind taking a chance. Not too hard actually.

For your problem here though, it doesn't look like you can fix it like I did. the plastic stick broke below the surface on mine. That hole you have in your dpad is a tough one.

  • @BobDaGrump Exact same thing happened, but i didnt glue it back together.

  • Yeah, same thing here, man. Just happened to me while playing Mortal Kombat - I'm pissed.

  • @mpr21288 Just do what I do, buy a new one & return ur broken controller & get ur money back. Easy.

  • EXACT same thing here man fuckin garbage is there a single Dpad for 360 that does not suck balls?

  • ARGH I am from the Philippines. My DPAD broke while playing Dead Or Alive 4. I bought the controller 4 months ago. -.-

  • @arthmael17 Yea for some reason that's how long they last for a horde core fighting game player. I just got my 2nd replacement from Wal-Mart & returned the one I had b4 it broke. You know what those Idiots did. they put the one I gave them right back on the shelf for resale at WHOLE PRICE. I know cuz I was looking at it myself with my own eyes. Those bastards.

  • @MasterMITSURUGI that sucks, unfortunately for me there's no microsoft support here in the philippines. will i get banned if I mod this controller lol. hope the parts fit though dammit. >.< im so frustrated

  • i've had 2 of these now, crap controller you know exactly when the d-pad is gonna come off, when the piant in the centre comes off then you know to expect the d-pad to come off not long afterwards, won't be getting this one again, will be getting my money back, absolute fail of a design microsoft, get a grip will ya

  • This sucks I was just about to buy one as well microsoft always disappoint me it's getting really rediculous now

  • Alright boys & girls, here is how I take care of this problem. If u got this controller & It breaks 2 or 3months later, just buy another one & return the broken one & get ur money back, repeat but don't go to the same place everytime like a dummy. I'm on my second go around with this process, I do the same with my headset. Try it, It works & saves u $ on shit that's NOT made to last! :-)

  • myfriend got his 2 months ago and he still has his....OOPS...nvm....lolol jk

  • If I get a replacement d-pad, will that work? Or is the whole system different for the xbox 360 Twist Controller?

  • @facethemusic1 I'm not sure. Just replace the whole controller through MS.

  • My controller broke in the same way..MS BETTER FIX THIS SHIT...im going back to PS.

  • Mine just broke and I looked up this video, man this is sucky

  • I too was playing Mortal Kombat tonight and the dpad suddenly dropped onto my lap. I want my money back.

  • Mine broke while playing Mortal Kombat. All they have to do is make it the same as the Dual Shock D-pad and it would be perfect.

  • @DreadRaptor85 I disagree. This 360 D-Pad is way better than the DS3. I mean come-on, It's the same shit since PS1. Granted they never changed it cuz very few complained about it but I'm one of the few. Overall control is great but after about an hr of getting my Street Fighter Alpha on my thumb would start to hurt. I can play SSF4 A.E. for about 4hrs+ straight & my thumb doesn't hurt at all.I was the one who posted this video to show what will happen if it's not used a specific way. That's ALL

  • @MasterMITSURUGI

What I meant was that if the D-pad was integrated into the controller, it would be better. The new Dpad is like an add on.

  • @DreadRaptor85 Oh ok. Answer this tho, do u think the D-Pad will work any different, better or worse, if they did that?

  • use glue and fix it

  • @legopart1 Ha, If only it was that easy. That won't work at all.

  • Turn the Dpad to the normal playing mode and I think that it should still work, not the best but you still can use the remain surface.

I have The standart one (Wired with USB Adapter and Windows driver)

I realy wanted to get one until I saw this video,

I think that you not the only one that this thing happened to him.

  • the d in d-pad means dissapiontment-pad

  • @yoyopooyou LoL, funny. It's actually the best "Directional-Pad" for the 360 I've played with so far. It's great UNDER the HOOD but needs work over the HOOD.

  • same thing happened here

    gf $65...

  • Did your replacement work? I'm looking for a Xbox controller that has a decent d-pad for games like SF and MK but it is so hard to find one. I am down between this or the MVC edition from PDP. Or I might just stick to my ps3 controller but I don't have a lot of friends who play on ps3. Ha!

  • @Grimicyn Yea my replacement worked just fine as long as I only used it in DISC mode. It still works till this very day. That's the trick to it, don't use it in PLUS mode, it won't last long when it comes to Super Street Fighter 4. To be honest it works the same either way.

  • @MasterMITSURUGI

Then what is the point in getting the controller? I wanted a better d-pad but seems like it is impossible to find for games like MK and SF. What a bummer! Is the disc version much improved at least over the original? I may just grab it for ps3 but PSN is a huge fail lately.

  • @Grimicyn Dude, It works great, & the same, either way. The whole thing with the modes is purely for the user. I figured that out for myself. Overall its a perfect D-pad all around for fighting games. Trust me, It totally improved my timing and accuracy in SSF4.

  • my controller will not long charge or turn on... had it 6 weeks and just turned off in the middle of some call of duty and hasnt worked since.

  • on my controller the left analog stick sprints but stop when i let go. only lasted like 2 or 3 weeks also. but i waited too long to return it. :(

  • The exact same thing happened to me...TWICE!!! I think I'm over it now.

  • after seening this video and reading all these other reveiws i can now say HELL no to this controller like the biggest problem with this controller is the D-Pad witch was MS biggest change and like a bunch of people have to return it and get anotehr one witch will most liekly break i was going to get this but now im not taking the chance ill stick with the original thanks for this video reveiw on it saved me 60 bucks

  • Im on my third controller, lucky Best Buy replaces them no questions asked. But this time they were out of stock. So i said forget it, give me the Razor Onza.

That was an even bigger mistake!

So I'm taking that back too!

MS need to be shot in the balls for releasing this faulty crap especially with the tainted RRoD issue still associated with the 360.

  • Over 600 views in 4months. Sweet! Right now this is my most viewed video I've posted. Thank you YouTubers.

  • It seems to a common problem with this controller i just had my second one do the same thing again. If you ask me, in order to keep this from happening repeatedly they should replace the plastic D-Pad with either reenforced aluminum or carbon fiber since either are more durable than the plastic they use now.

  • Hi, I need some parts from this controller to fix mine (not the d-pad). Anybody sells a broken one?

  • @eried Well what's wrong with yours?

  • @MasterMITSURUGI The analog left stick is not smooth (the rubber on the top is damaged)

  • You guys are all abusive... Ive owned mine for like a month, and I haven't broken it... Stop getting mad and smashing your controllers.

  • You guys are all abusive... Ive owned mine for like a month, and I haven't broken it... Stop getting mad and smashing your controllers.

  • @WeAreTwoDoorsDown i agree if you take care of your things this wont happen if had mine for 3months perfectly fine

  • @xXMrModderXx Then lucky for you. Just because it didn't happen to you doesn't mean it isn't a problem. Do you think everyone that owned a 360 needed it to red ring before it was considered an issue? Some people will experience the problem and others wont. It's naive of you to suggest that it's through misuse that causes this problem.

  • I've had FOUR of these stupid controllers. I hate it because I LOVE the color and is the main reason I asked for it for Xmas. I open it up Xmas morning and the dpad fell right off before I even touched it! Had to wait two days for best buy to take returns, got a new one and had the feeling I should have opened it there to make sure, but didn't and got home ... SAME thing!! I am now on my fourth, this one has lasted almost 2 months, but after 3 days of marvel vs capcom 3, it fell off. I'm not ro

  • My dpad broke the FIRST day. I had only used it for about 2 hours when it broke. I was using it in plus mode. I went to switch it to disc mode and the whole dpad came out of the unit. At the end of dpad (the part that broke off of yours and seemed to still be stuck into the controller unit) was a small broken hoop that used to anchor the dpad into the unit. I am replacing the controller today but I suspect any replacement will be just as vulnerable. I will update here if the replacement breaks.

  • @aeongod WOW. Here's a good tip on how to use the replacement controller when u get it. Only use it as a disc, it worked so far for me. Its really the same thing once u get use to it. Overall its an excellent D-pad for Super Street Fighter 4. Check out my videos. Hope all is well.

  • @MasterMITSURUGI So far so good with the replacement. I've been using it mostly in disc mode and it works fine. It switches more smoothly than my last one as well. I haven't used it for anything dpad intensive like street fighter yet though. Hopefully it lasts I really like this controller otherwise.

  • @aeongod That's good to hear. I agree, this D-pad is awesome for Street Fighter. I still use it today. I've been using it in disc mode only so its doing very well. Lucky for me I only went through 1 replacement. I hope it stays that way.

  • meaning are they still making them or they gonna run out n no 1 else can get them

  • @NiZzy161 Oh, I'm not sure about that. I don't think these Controllers are Limited.

  • is it limited

  • @NiZzy161 I don't understand your question. "Is It Limited"?

  • Mine only lasted 3 days! I did nothing to it and the dpad just popped out. Best buy replaced it though.

  • @skcuspar03 WoW, areyou fucking serious. 3days? That's insane dude. Are you a Street Fighter player as well? If not then what game did you play with it & how were you using it. Disc or Plus?

  • @MasterMITSURUGI Nope I was calling in a spy plane on COD lol it was in the plus position. I had barely used it before it broke which leads me to believe that it was broken when I purchased it.

  • Well, I finally got my replacement today.(Jan/5/2011)They just sent me a NEW one, everything included so I got another play&charge cord and battery cuz I sent my controller without the play&charge cord and battery. Sweet.

  • I really didn't have to say much cuz It was less than a month when my controller broke. The reason why I called MS is cuz I lost my receipt so I couldn't get another 1 at GameStop. Well so far that's 2poeple It broke on. I expect many more.

  • I sent it off today (UPS) & it only cost me 9 bucks. Not bad, anyways I'll comment again on any new info I recieve. Thank you for watching & posting.

  • @MasterMITSURUGI hey mine just broke! same shit...what'd you say to microsoft to get them to repair it? or to ship u a new one?

  • @darkproduce15 I really didn't have to say much cuz It was less than a month when my controller broke. The reason why I called MS is cuz I lost my receipt so I couldn't get another 1 at GameStop. Well so far that's 2poeple It broke on. I expect many more.
