  • i love how they tell you how to be creative...

  • @chance1234567890 - Me too... But it's all fun!!!

  • I had to replay the video several times - keep getting distracted by the Martini :)

Thank you for the video great info...

  • @NoeGarciaPhotography - LOL. Thanks for watching.

  • Not true hen it comes to hdslr 4:2:0, I lready used any lighting, decent lighting, he'll even the great Mercian slr shoot out failed on the best lighting they can find when it came to recoding greenscreen clean, so much spill and noise in all canon as, 5 dmkii, 7d, 60 d , the ex1, ex2 and fs100 shot clean clear no spill green videos in their tests, can you confirm if it was their lighting?

  • @SkyFilmography - I can't confirm anything specifically BUT I've done green screen on my 5D Mark II with various lenses. "Lighting the GS" and the talents "proper distance away from it (to avoid spill)" is crucial. Understanding color smoothing, color keying and other techniques in post is also your friend. Hope that helps.

  • What's the best lens advise to a new 5dmkii owner who wants to shoot green screen , I read ppl saying use Nikon lens, ziess cp2 etc etc

  • @SkyFilmography - You could use any lens. The "key" to good green screen is proper lighting and the right software for keying out the green. I've shot GS on old Hi8 cameras and it's worked fine.

  • I'm looking to buy this camera as a new film maker looking to make documentaries. My friend said it's not a good choice cuz of the audio issues. No control etc. Do you agree? Or would something like the mic you were using work just fine?

  • Comment removed

  • @StellaisBack - The audio issues were resolved years ago. As with all cameras you should use a good quality mic. It's a great camera.

  • Nice video! I like your studio! Also, I saw Pee Wee in NYC for his Broadway show last year! I actually was getting all weepy and laughing at the same time! Anyhoo, I'll be subscribing and hoping I'll be able to get my very own 5D real soon.

  • @Sprenklefish - Thanks for watching the clip. I had tickets to OPENING NIGHT in LA and at the last minute I couldn't go!!! Hope you get your 5D. Cheers.

  • Nice vid! And I like how you talk...

  • @HollandAmericalover - Thank you.

  • Hello, Im more concerned about the size of the film because my files vary from GB. I am concerned on how to make the file size as small as possible even before I place it on final cut pro (I would compress it first but the quality will be lost)

I read that people would normally place it on final cut pro first but their 8 min vid is like 1GB and mine is like 4 GB when its like a 3 min video. I don't know what I do but it comes out huge. Any tips to control the original file size?

  • @JoveInLA - 5D footage gets compressed when you import with Log And Transfer. The quality is still amazing. Files sizes are still large though.

  • Graffiti tag PASO TKO

  • @nonegraff1 - Tru Dat...

  • Hey Guys... Thanks for all the views and all the comments/questions (email has been overwhelmed) over the past year. Keep'em coming!!! -Demi

  • Great great camera for photo and video. I use sennheiser e914 microphones and an Allen & Heath mixer for the sound. But for that you always need power around :)

  • @computerjantje - I have a "studio sound" set up too. But often times the Rode video mic gets used and produces good results. Thanks for watching.

  • why do u use final cut when after effects or cinema 4d areso much better?

  • @Tavor21Actual - Final Cut Pro is a great "video editor". After Effects is a different program for different work.

  • Great Video and very informative! Thanks! I just purchase my 5D Mark II and I am ready to have fun with it!

  • @mgportraits - You made a good choice. The 5D Mark II is the best camera for the creative person at any price... Good luck.

    -Demi

  • What is the model name of the rhode mic?

  • @filmmanvick16 - It the Rode Video Mic.

  • Why didn't you upload in hd?

  • @sjohnstone11 - The size of the compressed HD clip (over 6 mins) kept failing to upload so I just did it in SD. I'm happy with the quality. Thanks for watching.

  • You're awsome --- the wine glass siting there on your right is just groovy man!

  • @MrBernie001 - Thanks. I went through a Cosmo Phase...

  • Could you give me some help with my rode video mic? I have been having a lot of bother with it. When I record with the mic, the sound is very quiet, I have to hold it really close to my ear to be able to hear it. So obviously the battery is fine so what else could it be? The only sound settings I can find on my camera are mic level and mic level settings. Mic level is on and mic level settings is on +2, the highest it can go. Please help?

  • @AStickManProductions - What camera are you using?

  • @DemiTheCameraMan JVC Everio GZ-HD10EK

  • @DemiTheCameraMan - Sounds like a bad mic. I'd try it on another camera to be sure the camera isn't the problem though...

  • that lens kills you though when you zoom in and out during recording because it doesnt have the constant aperture

  • @ExitMediaProductions - I feel ya. BUT, that was done on purpose for the "look". When I want constant aperture I use my 70-200mm f2.8. Thanks for watching.

  • Hey, Great vid.

Which GlideTrack system did you use?

    Jr.

  • @jrmoves - It is the older one that does not have rollers. It's the three footer. Thanks for watching!

  • very informative, thanks for the fast email response also

I am so getting this the quality speaks for itself and great alternative to pricey cinematic cams

    MAKE MORE VIDS lol

  • @groomlake67-It has it's pros and cons. A zoom lens, of whatever price range you can afford, has a place in many timelines... Thanks for watching.

  • zooming with a variable f.stop is a no go :)

    nice test. thank you

  • @jackie20ization-The 5D is a "cinema" camera and the XHA1s is a "video" camera". The 5D will require you to buy several different lenses to get a good "cinema" game going and it doesn't auto focus like a video camera. It really depends on your application. What are you wanting to do?

  • does the 5D have autonatic video mode?

what is the best for filming

is the 5D Mark 2 video mode better or is Canon XH A1S or Canon XH G1S?

  • @ theanzer - 1920 X 1080 @30p. Thanks for watching...

  • 1080...?

  • @midtx350z-Thanks so much!

  • Good writeup

  • /watch?v=d7uQHvqr6k0 it was made with 5D Mark ii in January 2011. Professional Music Video

  • @GinuF0iNe - The 50mm f1.8 is about $99.00 and many use it on a budget. 50mm is a must have for cinema. You would select lenses by the type of shot you're after too. If you need some zooms that would require a zoom lens. Each lens has a different look and usually comes in a "budget" version. The best thing to do is put each on your camera and evaluate the look for what your after. Bigger camera stores usually have the 5D and lenses to try out.

  • what are some affordable lens I can get for a canon 5D mark II that has a cinematic movie look??

  • Thanks for the comments and emails. A new installment about the Canon 50mm f1.4 lens is coming soon.

    -Cheers.

  • @CountSmokula-The pups are popping out like crazy right now. Saw several that didn't make it a few weeks ago. Birds were eating the carcasses. If Ur up this way let me know. We could meet for lunch/dinner/drinks etc. Always good to make new friends or re-aquiant with old ones...

  • Hey awesome video/ review.. We also love going to see the elephants seals near San Simeon as often as possible; Also right about now it is pupping season there. Probably later this month or early Feb. we plan to do the Monterrey,Carmel, Avila Bay, Pismo Beach etc. coastal getaway.- I can't wait Anyway the Canon 5D , looks Sweet Quality ..Keep the videos coming ... Later

  • The mic on the XL2 "stereo" mic is not bad. When I used to film with my XL2 I used an Azden mic with a Beachtek adapter. The XL2 also has a built in audio level monitor which is great. The Rode Video Mic is really amazing though. Can't beat the bang for buck!

  • @AdventuresInEurope - Love that flip out screen on the 60D...

  • I tested out my new 60D today and loved it. I know it's no 5D though. Once again thanks for sharing this information. I appreciate it.

  • @Jeff-The XL2 is a great camera. Used mine for many years. Going to the 5D was another world tho. Made the switch about a year ago.

  • Very cool Demi. Now I have to start looking at upgrading some of my equipment. That Rode mic and Manfrotto tripod would both help out a lot. I recently purchased a used Canon XL2 camcorder...looks like I should have considered a Canon 5D. Hmmm....

  • @jeffthammond Hey Jeff does the XL2 shoot in the 16:9 aspect?

  • @adventuresineurope yes, it shoots in 16:9 which is what i use primarily. i purchased it to increase the video quality of the dvds i shoot for my wife's community theater company. i wonder though how the xl2 video quality compares to a consumer hd camcorder.

  • @jeffthammond The XL2 has some great optics. I'm wondering what bitrate it records in... It's definitely a keeper.

  • @adventuresineurope i also wonder how the xl2 stock mic compares to the rode mic that demi used in his video.

  • Great review Demi! Lot's of good information here. I'm looking forward more. Thumbs Up.
