Yoko didn’t break up the Beatles, that’s just the first conclusion the fans jumped to, lacking a better explanation. George broke up the Beatles, by quitting, because he couldn’t stand Paul and John, mostly Paul. He’d quit once and they begged him back. But the situation hadn’t changed, so he declared himself solo after the Let It Be sessions. He’d already made a solo album last time he quit. John and Paul were also at odds, so solo sounded good to them, too. Ringo was like “Aw, fuck!”
John actually said that on the day of his murder about 5 hours before he was killed. This video was about 10-12 days before he was killed, but the audio (the voiceover) is from his last interview.
@NeilFraudstrong That kills me inside. Knowing that he said that and he said 'I hope thats a long, long time' and he was killed that day. It makes me sick. Fuck his murderer. I dont even wanna say that faggots name. Poor John..):
@Julesnshane Odd to see John and Yoko just strolling around Central Park. A typical fan asks the typical question "when are the Beatles getting back together?" Lennon should have told the guy the truth - never! (and with the same venom he used when referring to the band while talking with reporters). John once said the Beatles "was nothing!" Yet it was the reason he had the plush life he and his Siamese-twin Ono enjoyed and the reason his legacy is so strong even today. Nothing? I think not.
@redletter2008 Bit harsh that-Lennon created The Beatles...c'mon he was a great songwriter-probably the best in the 20th century....i heard a story which i read in a book about some guy who knew Lennon just before he died-and he said Lennon was paranoid and scared of these so called fans in a way of how they would come up to him, and he wanted to just go away-hence his reply to that guy in the video
John got very claustrophobic around people. He hated to be stared at, it was his biggest pet peeve, and he hated when people would close in around him and he would get a bit of a nasty temper whenever that happened. He was very big on his personal space. I guess it was a reaction to the Beatlemania days.
If I ever met John Lennon, I would probably try to be calm and say, "Hey, I am a big fan of your music, could you sign an autograph?" But it'd probably just come out as "OH, EYE, COuld yOu, SiGN... please..."
I knew a woman who worked across the street from a Nathan's in Greenwich Village. Lennon loved Nathan's hot dogs. He particularly loved the red onion sauce that's only made in New York. For some reason it's unavaliable anywhere outside New York. if any of you folks out there come to New York for a visit, you have to try the hot dogs with the red onion sauce.
Ya know whats so odd is how John looks like he's a 50 year old man when hes barely 39 when this was filmed... aged 20 yrs in 10 yrs;;;; Very odd indeed..... Both those men. McCartney and Lennon... Both touched by something for sure.
"..untill im dead and burryed, and i hope thats a long, long time.." john, if only that had been a long long time. if only god had taken mark david chapman instead of you, the world would have been a much more peaceful place. john, i feel as though i have a piece of you with me, and you know we all love and miss you. John Winston Lennon.. Rest In eternal peace, you were a god upon men and we all love you.
so when does he sign an autograph? because i saw a 1 second handshake through a fence and he keeps walking. stupid qualm, but cmon its a 1 minute video and you can't even properly identify what happens in it lol.
Yes, my bad, I am obviously lacking intelligence. Instead of bringing up a gripe that hundreds of other people have brought up, why don't you just watch and appreciate the video.

that guys so lucky! if i got to meet John i would pass out, wake up, have a mini heartattack, pass out again, wake up, piss myself, and then start screaming :)
I met Lennon a few times he walked around NYC alot ..he was a guy (who just happened to be a genius and a huge inspiration ) but he was a guy ya know walking around just like anyone else , Especially when he was in ELAPHANTS memory he was always down town alot of people I knew ran into him one went and had some beers with him and smoked some pot ...,He was a nice guy John I wish they would of thown MARK CHAPMAN into a pit of hungry tigers and snakes!
Yeah, people have this idea of him as a mad recluse and I guess to some extent he was, but he was very visible if you lived on the Upper West Side. He frequented La Fortuna, his pharmacist was on W. 72nd Street, he would frequently patronize local record shops on W. 72nd Street and in the Village. John was an easy man to spot to local residents. That's why John loved New York. People would see him, but just say, "Hey John, how's it going?" instead of cornering him.
The guy mentioned the Blue Album. haha That wasn't an actual Beatles album even, just a compilation. Maybe he had just gotten into them. He's definitely a fan considering how excited he is.
hahahahaha that's the thing i love about new yorkers, they just talk to you like they've known you for ages! and you know what i actually think that's the same reason why john was so drawn to the whole place.
Always imagine how that guy must have felt - meeting his hero and getting his autograph then in no time at all john being dead. It must have been a haunting experience.
John was a great man, we loved him and his music. What i like about him is that he preached for Peace and Love and was not afraid to talk about it! Try to find someone today who preaches Peace, Love and hope in 2011. The only thing people are preaching now are for their stocks and profits. How can i make more money! How can i crush the poor and middle class. John Lennon was a true man of hope, this is why he is still missed to this day! John, rest in Peace brother. Your spirit lives!
I still believing in love and peace .. my work wont be ready till i'm dead and buried and I hope thats a long long time. why did this man need to die, rip john
People who want to be famous are nuts! Imagine guys like that yelling at you all day. That would get old real quick. @Vegas01973 Well, that's the price of fame. I guess it goes with the territory. The big money you make kind of makes it a bit easier. You have to remember, though it may get annoying at times, it's the fans who buy the records, go to the concerts and keep you relevant. It was only later that John over-paid for the price of fame. 0:55 "I consider my work won't be done until I'm dead and buried, and I hope that's a long, long time."
Little did he know, little did anyone know. Mark David Chapman, you're a thief; for you robbed the world of a great man & visionary but with his memory and legend, you could not rob it of the hope he inspired.
@muttilo not even close.maybe 3 years of the 1990s had good music. the 80s had good music for the entire decade. once kurt was dead, all rock &pop sucked for the most part
boy: o my god i cant believe it i met you i met a beatle when are you guys getting back together when are the beatles getting back together John: TOMOROW . then he says in the tape or to the interviewer he says his work is not finish till he is dead and i hope tht is not a long long time i felt bad :(
I'm glad that Yoko decided to take so much video of John over the years, because I was just a baby when he was killed, so I didn't get to know him while he was alive. Even though he's been gone for 30 years, me and other young people can still see hours and hours of footage of him, and appreciate both the music and the man.
@meanmachine210 Perhaps. But I think John was an angry man and he used his feigned "peace" activism to compensate for it. And he made BIG BUCKS off of it without lifting a finger as well. I like some of his music, he was creative, but like most musicians he was a fake, an act. He had a schtick, as they say.
danesesrocky76 lets not talk about things that we obviously know nothing about. the album your referring to(although the cover is blue) is tiled Plastic Ono Band Live Peace in Toronto 1969.The Blue Album is a Beatles compilation 1967-1970.
No the blue album was Johns live peace album from toronto with yoko and eric clapton around 1969! John was on Heroin and throwing up before the concert. this was In his own words! Not bad but not his best work. Money, dizzy miss lizzy, cold turkey, and yoko squeeling, are some of the albums tracks.
I doubt that he is referring to that. He asks him that right after he asks him when The Beatles are getting back together. The Blue Album was another compilation of old Beatle songs from the years 1967-1970.
@danesesrocky76 Yeah Your probably right, I forgot about that one! It was the early years greatest hits and the later years hits. Beatle fans had every song on the blue and red albums already, so there was no need to buy It. but It sounds like that may have been It. who knows we would have to ask the kid, or man now! Anyway Happy 70th Birthday John!
It's so nice to see John in this short clip. I wish he were still alive today! He was such a peace activist and lovable human being! I am sure he would have shook things up pretty good so they wouldn't be like they are now, all screwed up by screwed up politicians and industrials who only care about them selves and profits! POWER TO THE PEOPLE! Power to John!
John lennonn was a true musican, songwriter and a man with a true sense of humor.I feel had mark chapman not been there that tragic day that john and yoko would of made many more albums with videos. lennon just missed the dawn of the mtv era and would of found a new younger crowd that would of enjoyed his music. I also feel he would of helped ringo and george on there albums
Does your dad remember where in the park this was? It looks like construction work was going on. You dad was lucky to have met him, I think this was like 1 week or so before he got killed.
@NeilFraudstrong ... no way. we're paying good taxes to keep that bag of shit alive. If there is one person on earth that deserves to die a rotten death, it is that scumbag piece of shit mark david chapman. I WANT TO KILL MARK DAVID CHAPMAN!!
@frankwhite1ne does he still have the paper john signed ? i believe that its your father though. And did he have any prior knowledge that he might run into lennon?
@frankwhite1ne Man how cool! Indeed What an honour to your father! (&for both of you) / It looks like John didn't mind it at all, the more he seems to be amused in it & a bit proud.
The Blue Album is one of the endless re-releases of Beatles material that came out in the 1970s. I think it was like the greatest tracks from 1966-1970 or something.

John, they'll never be another like you.

Must be unbelievable watching John Lennon walking on the streets surrounding for average people, just like if he was one of them.

The 80s only sucked cuz of ronald reagan and the murder of lennon. the 90s and 2000's suck 1000x more than the 80s
kliff215 1 year ago
@kliff215 90s were better
muttilo 1 year ago
@muttilo not even close.maybe 3 years of the 1990s had good music. the 80s had good music for the entire decade. once kurt was dead, all rock &pop sucked for the most part

I'm glad that Yoko decided to take so much video of John over the years, because I was just a baby when he was killed, so I didn't get to know him while he was alive. Even though he's been gone for 30 years, me and other young people can still see hours and hours of footage of him, and appreciate both the music and the man.

The way John treated his first son was disgracefull.
FaganRoberts 1 year ago
@FaganRoberts by this time johns was starting to get to know his son and spend more time with him but sadly he got killed
meanmachine210 1 year ago
@meanmachine210 Perhaps. But I think John was an angry man and he used his feigned "peace" activism to compensate for it. And he made BIG BUCKS off of it without lifting a finger as well. I like some of his music, he was creative, but like most musicians he was a fake, an act. He had a schtick, as they say.
FaganRoberts 1 year ago
The last thing he said on this clip is very sad

danesesrocky76 lets not talk about things that we obviously know nothing about. the album your referring to(although the cover is blue) is tiled Plastic Ono Band Live Peace in Toronto 1969.The Blue Album is a Beatles compilation 1967-1970.

Happy 70th Birthday JOHN!!!!!!!
danesesrocky76 1 year ago
No the blue album was Johns live peace album from toronto with yoko and eric clapton around 1969! John was on Heroin and throwing up before the concert. this was In his own words! Not bad but not his best work. Money, dizzy miss lizzy, cold turkey, and yoko squeeling, are some of the albums tracks.
danesesrocky76 1 year ago
@danesesrocky76
I doubt that he is referring to that. He asks him that right after he asks him when The Beatles are getting back together. The Blue Album was another compilation of old Beatle songs from the years 1967-1970.
NeilFraudstrong 1 year ago
