  • Jordan plays great but strings on Oasys sound terrible. Old good analog strings such Solina, Farfisa, Korg Delta, Roland Paraphonic 505, Hohner Strings etc are far better. Sorry, but it is true... I hate all digital workstations for lead stage playing. They are good for home studios only.

  • backround is making me vewwey deeeezie. keeps spinnung. ia goin toooo poook.

  • some movie producer should hire Jordan for a Movie soundtrack, don't care how shitty the movie could be, we finally would have a piece of movie soundtrack from Rudess

  • noitcerid thgir eht ni etirw ot woh gnittegrof em ni detluser oediv siht fo ssencipe eht

(If you took the time to decode that, you have too much time on your hands...)

  • Sounds like battle music

  • Why are none of the controller LEDs lit?

  • @sp4zzer cuz the sound isn't coming from the keyboards... It's comming from his fingures. Litteraly

  • crazyous...i can't speak anymore about this super MAN..

  • Perhaps his greatest composition for strings played on keyboards! A masterpiece if he indeed wrote this piece. Based on his other compositions of bumbling hackery, my guess is Rudess is not the original composer.

Very Baroque in form. Classical lines run throughout the work at times approaching the immortal Mozart...

Makes one wonder what masterworks Vivaldi, Bach or Mozart could have produced with this keyboard.

    -Kevin Moore (dream theater)

  • @Zakariah1971 Everything that Rudess plays on videos demoing sound patches is improvised.

  • @Zakariah1971 most probably just an improvisation.

  • Brilliant

  • Jordan Rudess improvvise 4 voices fugues.

  • As someone said somewhere... Imagine Mozart, Beethoven, Bach... with one of these keyboards...

  • @Hayacafrita and they PALE in comparison to Jordan Rudess.

  • Im sorry but Im getting DIZZY!

  • sounds like final fantasy music...

  • Did i just see someone say TUOMAS HOLOPAINEN is better than JORDAN RUDESS? That's just absurd. The members of Nightwish are musical incompetents who are good enough for playing the elementary pop-gothic metal of Nightwish (with the Hans Zimmer rips here and there). None of them hold a candle to the members of DT, or any other competent metal band for that matter.

  • @Obelix5150 I should add that I DO enjoy listening to Nightwish. But I recognize that they aren't great musicians. Its a shame that most other Nightwish fans are woefully blind to that fact.

  • @Obelix5150 I respectfully disagree. No, Nightwish are not GREAT musicians, but they are not "musical incompetents" either. Listen to their earlier tracks, like Crownless, if you want complex riffs and varied song structure. You can argue that Nightwish is nothing special (especially compared to DT), but it can definitely hold its own in instrumental skill against almost most metal bands.

  • @Geborren They can't do anything live though. Have you heard Empuu slaughtering the Symphony of Destruction solo live? He can't tap for shit. Tuomas can't play any of his more technical stuff live either... when he tried to play the studio version of the Planet Hell solo live in 2004 he fucked up a lot, therefore he simplified it for later performances... and the first piano riff in Pharaoh Sails to Orion always made me wince... he just cant play those damn arpeggios cleanly...

  • @Geborren Also since my original post, I've realized that the thing that pisses me off about nightwish isn't the band themselves, but Nightwish fans who think Empuu's the best guitarist ever. there're a lot of such fans. Or those who think that Tuomas is Beethoven meets Liszt meets Shakespeare.

  • @Obelix5150 and yeah, i totally get your frustration with fans. btw, i just checked out your channel, and i now have a new solution to nightwish's problems. you could simply replace tuomas, and the keyboards would be awesome. haha

  • @Obelix5150 i do know what you mean about some of their live sloppiness. but i would argue that nightwish is more inconsistent than just plain bad. listen to the from wishes to eternity version of the pharaoh sails to orion, the original tv broadcasts of gethsemane and sacrament of wilderness, and the 2008 rock werchter version (or any version, for that matter) of dead to the world. none of those are simple songs, and they're all played pretty cleanly live. and those are just a few

  • @Geborren Mmm. Yes, they can do SOMETHING live lol. Again my problem isnt the band per se, after all i'm a Zeppelin fan and Page plays pretty damn unclean at times... but when a Nightwish fan says Empuu plays Over The Hills better than Gary Moore, I have to facepalm... and thanks xD

  • @Obelix5150 No, same here. Brilliant composers (Tuomas, anyway), mediocre musicians.

  • @NingenSucka I wouldn't call Tuomas a mediocre musician. He's a great musician, and comparing him to Jordan Rudess just isn't right. Jordan is great, amazing, yes, but Jordan and Tuomas led different lifestyles and use their music in different ways. I think it's best to respect that. No one of these guys is any more of a musician than the other.

  • @Obelix5150 That's just stupid, sorry.

  • me gustan los sonidos graves, son bastantes reales

  • Tasteful.

  • he's a 100 man band

and if he had a good voice he would be a 101 man band

  • @Kradantoste he has a fine voice. not incredile, but fine.

  • I'm better.

    Just kidding. :3

  • Wow

  • Ahhhhhhh! Finally music with meaning...

  • The background is giving me motion sickness xD

  • i agree but still tuomas is maybe not the best...but one of the best composers that exist right now (better than jordan)

  • @Diablos199 Tuomas has nothing on Rudess. From a compositional aspect, Rudess is the product of classical training and combining styles from areas of romanticism, atonal, classical and jazz. Tuomas fits perfectly into Nightwish...he is Nightwish! But he can do nothing else but Nightwish...his other bands are horrid. Also...he steals almost directly from Hans Zimmer. Film score composers are supposed to be the ones doing the stealing not the other way around!

  • tuomas holopainen is better in my opinion...great musician...great keyboard player...and the best composer that exists (only on the symphonic - gothic metal area)

  • @Diablos199 well, my mman, being restricted to one area doesn't make him the best then...symphonic metal is not what I perceive as the most influential style of music

  • riding a bike with a mounted keyboard in circles around the laundry room, towels and pants on display, what could be more of a natural and perfectly sane activity?

  • I found myself breaking into a little Placido Domingo. Who knew :P

  • the backroudn make me sick xD

  • almost sounds as good as a low quality orchestra recording. I mean that in a good way.

  • Looks like he sliding down a massive staircase of doom while playing this masterpiece lol

  • haha the perfect background music while i look for pants

  • Oh man he should conduct a score for a film!

  • Well I guess you should stop sippin on that Haterade and realize that his talent is way beyond anything you think about Jordan Rudess.

  • Shut up troll ! xD

  • Nice.

  • I love the " 'Sup BITCH!" stare he gives his keybaord when he's finished. :P

  • and the best thing is thats not even a screen, thats really hes house!!!!!!!! :O:O

  • Hahaha.

  • lol! of course!

  • ROFL

  • damn straight it is lol

  • @RhythmDramatist It's above his house, his awesome orchestral arrangements give him the power of flight.

  • @RhythmDramatist No words can describe how hard that made me laugh xD

  • Really awesome, he is a master of his craft! Oh... and the Korg Oasys isn't too bad eiter hehe : P

The bit from 1:02 to the end is very moving, beautiful stuff!

  • lol with that strings sound and with that background I feel like in some Super Smash Bros game jeje, Jordan is the best :D

  • Korg Oasys 8,500 $ it,s yours awesome sound Jordan is very rare talent!!

  • could I also buy a jordan as an extra with the keyboard?

  • Rudess is the shit.

  • Why do people thumbs down a positive comment? Perhaps they don't understand that it's positive.

Perhaps it's the fault of human community to adopt an adjective for coolness that has to do with defecating. Odd, isn't it?

  • lol

  • The background makes my head spin.

  • this vid feels like "the weakest link" lol

  • 0:01 lol wut

  • I'd love to see Rudess and Uematsu work together.

  • That'd be cool.

  • I know this post was 8 months ago (still not that far down the page), but HELL YEAH! Let it happen!!

  • ahahahah cool :D

the sound like super mario 64 ^_^

    jordaaaaaaaan the best ^_^

  • Buy the Roland fantom G8 =D

  • Jordan Rudess: Where Metal meets Final Fantasy.

  • @wrs6565 Final Fantasy < Jordan Rudess

  • @Legarsdu76 Wrong. You obviously don't know a damn thing about Nobuo Uematsu's genius.

  • @PrimalLight2323 iLoLed .. I've seen many Final Fantasy orchestras and moreover i can teach you some masterpieces in piano .. Your commentary isn't appropriate because JR and NU are 2 lords of music in their own style ..

  • @Legarsdu76 I've seen Distant Worlds and The Black Mages perform and am certain I could teach YOU masterful piano arrangements.

Your comment contradicts yourself, saying that they're two musicians of their own individual styles and yet your previous comment said, "Final Fantasy < Jordan Rudess".

You obviously don't know what you're trying to say and instead opt for blatant hypocrisy, whilst stroking your own tiny ego.

  • @Legarsdu76 LMAO!! you got fuckin' owned man. quit acting like you're the shit, no one gives a fuck.

great video of jordan as usual!! :D

  • @wrs6565

    HAHAHA

  • Improvvvvvv

  • This guy is so good that the improvised example above is a piece of cake for him and he can make 100 more equally as beautiful and still totally different from each other, and do it without trying. He's like the Stephen Hawkins of keyboards.

Whoever doubts his talent, skill, and musicality, get his album "Rhythm of Time"

You will cease to compare him to ANYONE

    ;)

  • "Rhythm of Time" is an excellent album. I would also recommend "Resonance", "4NYC", "Secrets of the Muse" and "Rudess/Morgenstein project" to those who are interested in Rudess more 'emotional' compositions.

  • Idk man this guy is amazing but its all like one big solo. Im not saying hes not Face melting awesome but look at people like RJ his "Throwing Fire" video is brutal but at the same time 100% melodic and he can fit solo's in aswell

  • nice nice nice! Does somebody has sheets for this one? He should indeed make music for Final Fantasy haha

  • I'm sure a lot of this stuff is just improv

  • WTF, why did you just insult him for no reason??

He's right. It's all improvised. There's no sheet music for this. This is Jordan Rudess, the guy is like a computer.

  • "Whats is the best keyboard for strings and orchestral stuff?"

Korg OASYS. Bar none. Go do some research about the OASYS and you'll see why.

  • I am going on a trip with the background

  • wow the background is fucking up my mind

  • lol!

  • Jordan Rudess and his Orchestra

  • FINAL FANTASY! he should do some music for it..

  • BIG TIME thats the first thing i thought of when i heard this tune.

  • i thought the same the moment i heard it lol (benjorino7)

  • fucking awesome !!!!!!!!!!

  • he is all thhe orchestra

  • i swear. he's like the beehtoven or mozart of our time.

  • just watch to amadeus and you'll se that the actually is. ahuauhuhaa

  • genius

  • wow he is talented thats for sure and that synth is just as brialliant.

  • good!

  • For people who say he isnt a pianist your wrong he studied classical piano for quite some time before falling in love with synths .He could probably kill on piano as well as he does keys

  • its hard to reach a good lvl on any instrument, but some instruments have more "options" then other. you can play more genres on the guitar, rather then on the violin, and you have more techniques. but its harder to start playing on the violin( mostly because there are no frets). so the violin gets more respect. its exactly the same thing with piano and synth. you have more options with the synth, but its harder to start on the piano.

  • Why's it harder to start on the piano then the synth? The one dosn't leave out the other, it's basically the same instrument they just sound different (create pitch in different ways)

  • not really, the way Jordan Rudess use it, is not the way most of the synth technician use it. synth technician use only 1 hand on the keys, while the second is "on all the other crap".

my friend actually doing a psy trance(and he doing nice money from it) and he showed me how he playes a repeated arpeggio, then he do something with the filters(or what ever its called), and its sounds insane.

  • No, it isn't. As someone who plays guitar and had 4 years of piano training at school. Piano isn't as difficult as the violin to begin. It takes a few minutes to actually play something (although quite an easy something :D ) on piano but I spent lots of hours on violin and was barely able to produce a good sounding note, let alone a piece. Being fretless is an issue but the main problem is the right hand.

  • "Piano isn't as difficult as the violin".

its not what i said, i said that its harder to start playing on the violin rather on the guitar.

  • piano is considered the easiest instrument to pick up and many musicians, including myself start off with them and move onto other ones. (i played keys?piano for 10 years, then added on guitar). It really helps with guitar since most guitar players are bad at timing and theory (piano is theory heavy). but being easy to pick up doesnt mean the actual playing of it is easy. it has a lot of discipline compared to guitar and songs take really long to learn, depending on difficulty.

  • You can get fretted violins...

  • i just wanted to make a point.

well as much as i know, only the electric violins have frets the frets are lifting the strings and effecting the sound. personally i never even sew a violin with frets, but i'm guessing that it will sound much worst then a violin without frets.did you ever had the chance to play/listing to fretless bass, for my surprise it was really different from a regular bass, in m opinion it sounded much batter.

  • I wasn't going against you or anything, I just thought I'd point it out. :P

  • god?

  • The original background was his room. It was very messy with skidded up underpants hanging on the rusty radiator, a dead dog in the corner and a pile of puke with some up the wall. Why else would you make it so obvious that you have changed the background?

  • Amazing player! Especially when you take into account how hes endlessley spinning around like that. And the angle hes playing on (downhill). Thats probably why he cut his hair off cos otherwise it'd get in his eyes. It must be like trying to play whilst on a rollercoaster! Respect! ;-)

  • gr8 song but the background is painful to watch after some time :P

  • ahhhhh never ending helixes destroy my eyes!

  • skill

  • This is an amazing instrument. I am in to sound effects. Have anyone tried to recreate a discharge sound of a 150kg guy, after he left a Mexican buffet? If yes, record it and post it. it should get at lest 1000000 viewers.

  • hmmm really ..who plays piano better than rudess? ...that's not a defence question I'd REALLY like to know cause I mean Jordan Sounds amazing...never heard anything better....

  • Its true there are many better pianists than Rudess.

But he isnt a pianist, heys a keyboard/synth player.

    Probably the best there is.

Well IMO he is, there may be the odd exception.

    Rudess <3

  • Hes also in that Liquid Tension Experiment...

    great strings

    wow fuggin cool!

  • Yes, we know.

  • and ben folds is a good musician but to be honest I am a better pianist then he is.

  • biarm, I disagree

  • Chuck Norris*

  • Jordan Rudess play like a god...everybody know...

but Rick Wakeman play like god + Cuck Norris =D

  • lol, not really.

  • you guys are all crazy. there are so many good pianoplayers in the world that are much better then jordan rudes.

  • I'm sure there are some pianists better than him, but not ''so many''. There are few that have impressed me like Jordan Rudess have. Plus, most play compositions that they didn't write themselves.

  • You need to give us some YouTube examples of guys that are better than Jordan Rudess. If you know of SOOOO MANY keybaordists that are better than him, please enlighten us.

  • LOLOLOL! Guess you never heard ANYTHING from DreamTheater, did you?!?

  • sure. i hate it

  • You need to give us some YouTube examples of guys that are better than Jordan Rudess. If you know of SOOOO MANY keybaordists that are better than him, please enlighten us.

  • i dont give you a youtube sample. but i can give you some names. oscar peterson, keith jarret, billy kyle, ben folds, dave grusin, brad mehldau, herbie hancock, vladislav sendecki, larry vuckovich, thelonious monk

  • @arroyomusic yes please, no one tops him.

  • @biarom definitely not

  • AAAAAAAHHHHHHHH GOD I WANT AN OASYS!!!!!! *splooge*

  • Around 7000 dollars.

  • Only one man better than Jordan...but he retired....Rick Wakeman. but Jordan is a god

  • rick wakeman's composition blew. we was a fast player but when it came to writing ability and overall talent, rick wakeman pales in comparison.

  • You are totally my synth idle...i hope to some day be as good or better then you...

  • If you become better than Jordan Rudess I'll be both your guitarist and your roadie...and I'll work for free.

  • Good luck with that

  • buena pelaoo... claro que el teclado ayuda mucho

    nice

  • nice!

  • and id like to add, that is stunning and amazing even for a small portion of himself

  • amazing, but no way near enough to what his full potential is

  • Absolute virtuoso!

  • this man is amazing!!!I think is the best of the all world!

  • OMFG, dare I say that Jordan's keyboard playing is more stunning than Petrucci's shredding?

  • Yeah, Rudess tears up Petrucci. No comparison. If you listen to Dream Theater prior to Rudess, Petrucci is playing sweet, melodic lines in his melodies. Ever since Rudess joined, it seems that Petrucci went to shred-as-fast-as-you-can mode. His melodies are not nearly as melodic and frankly, not as musical as before. He seems to try to compete with Jordan's lightning technique.

  • I perceive it in another way. The first Jordan-in-DT album, Scene from a Memory, has lots of melodic guitar solos e.g. Spirit Carries

On. After that they work on 2 albums which the band said are Dark and Heavy. That's why 6 Degree and Train of Thought have less melodic solos but lots of shreding parts.

  • Their latest album, Octavarium, shows another style. The band has mentioned that Octavarium is an album which is a conclusion of their music. In that album melodic solos can be found, e.g These Walls, Razor's Edge.

  • Rudess is a Legend!

  • Its amazing, the beauty you can create.

  • He got the sound of a whole symphoni orchestra!

  • Very beautiful... Where did you find it ?

  • Cool!
