  • Im really amazed by your understanding of the music. People say things like "be yourself", but I dont think they know the true meaning of this catchy slogan untill they see you :)

    Great video!

  • @eriksven1 Thank you very much. I worked hard at this music most of my life, it didn't come easy!

  • This is unbelievable... You are so inventive, sir, well done.

  • I'd like to know a little about how you did the neck & the bridge for this,as I am trying to build a few instruments now

  • @NuclearLullaby It is apiece of pine carved round in the back. The pegs are just stuck in the headstock every which way. Guitar machines would have been better. Best of luck

  • Sir, I'm confused as mush as I'm amazed. You have an American accent, at the same time you have such a good understanding of the music from this part of the world. Congratulations. But how could you achieve this?

  • @TheDayMatt Thank you for your comments. When I was 5 years old, my mother played Turkish, Greek, Armenian and Lebanese records in the house. She was a dancer on 8th ave, and brought me to the Greek clubs, where I heard that music and saw the instruments, bouzoukie, oud, and kanun. I fell in love with the music of all of the middle east. i travel to Turkey every year and study Turkish language at NYU.

  • @ghazikankan That is a fascinating story sir! I have so much respect for you.

  • I made the neck out of a piece of 1x3 pine, the pegs were an assortment of oud, saz, violin and viola pegs I have. Thanks

  • very nice where do you get the neck, bridge and pegs from though?

  • cool 0.0 really greet !!

  • Actually Oud is an Arab instrument which can be used for learning Arab,Turkish,Byzantine music etc.Great instrument

  • Awesome

  • Wall board, from the rare composition wood tree, found only at Home Depot has the best resonance! Hi! hope all is well!

  • does itr make a difference if it is maple or oak? John Vartan wants to know...

  • Just kidding, that really is not bad !!! Think of all those wasted hours down the music store sweating bullets trying to justify hundreds of dollars over a bottom end rubbish instrument that you 'know' you shouldn't buy, but usually cave in and do ! I am definitely going to try make an electric oud of some sort ! Thanks M8 !!!

  • I used my underwear drawer but it sounded shit ! I'll have to try the sock drawer next time.

  • You are God, you can take anything and make music.

  • Amazing!

  • U r such smart one

  • This is so ghetto

  • Hello, what is the name of the song you sing????

  • @dreacul Aynaya Baktim Sac beyaz Olmus (I looked in the mirror, my hair turns gray)

  • @ghazikankan I definetly love it!!! Thanks! Today i`m buying from internet oud strings and i`m making my own !!

  • That covers ouds... But can you make an Ood from a clothing drawer?

  • @goldsmithmk No, but i can make an Aad, Id, Ord, or a Oug.

  • wow how can your clothing drawer oud sound that good?

  • I love this man

    Thank you

  • Afwan.

  • I am a Palestinian guitarist, Still a beginner lol.. But sir, I love this idea, I love your playing, and that was Awesome! I am going to show it to my cousin cause he's an oud player :) Shukran :) ( Shukran = Thanks :D )

  • lol

  • it sounds better than my oud :D :D

  • Perfect , I loved that ... Thanks

  • Great job Scott, this sounds better tha n John Vartans Karibian man!!! I don't know why people are paying thousands of dollars on oud, they don't even know how to tune them :)

  • Funny ... Important to mention that the length of the string measured from the bridge to the edge should be 60 CM

  • Scott, you are a genius!!

  • hard to believe but wht a great sound from tht box

  • also u can made an guitar , in the same way ,

but the question is why u didn't ???

  • Scott, you are one amazing dude! First, you make costumes from mom's lady things and now this! I miss your mom. I remember our trips to Turkey very fondly. (Donna, wife of Double-man)

  • @djhbdancer Thanks! Turkey was fun. All my best!

  • a very interesting idea! :D

  • I love the humoristic touch you gave to your video. LOL!

  • La bella oud strings

  • The stringss?? WHat type

and please show us exactly how u make one.

  • Thanks!...I used LaBella oud strings...old, worn ones actually.

  • ohhhh my god this is amazing...I would never have thought of this...super creative.

What type of strings did you use????

  • haha wow, that's great and creative with a good oud playing skill ... great

  • ROFL that was amazing!

  • Genius! It sounds great too.

  • Remarkable! This guy's a genius. I didn't think it would sound anything like as good as it does. I've always wanted to make a larger version of the Oud - a kind of bass Oud. I wonder if I could simply use a coffin? of course I'd have to take the stiff out first.

  • كويس بيستغل الادراج استغلال تانى بدل ما يتبول فيها

  • you are the man!!! anybody who can make a drawer sound this good is an artist!!!!!!

  • @Louie25k Thanks!, I like your site also

  • ياعيني عليك مخ عبقري

  • HOLY FUK IT SOUNDS GR8! =D

  • amazing...............مجنون

  • Applause, very cool! ...and next time, you build one from your toaster...

  • very funny old perv

  • Great video, and great sounding Oud!

  • @CJbouzouki

    Great bouzouki playing!!!

  • @ghazikankan this is hardly a bouzouki... oud is very different.

most bouzoukis are fretted, while the oud is "free". It makes for a much different spirit.

  • @cloudincloudout the person you are trying to explain to, is the one that posted the video :P

  • very good!!!!! i loved this! i'll make my own oud now!!!

  • Very inventive...open the back and put your sheet music and extra plectrums in it to take to recitals! :)

  • re ton pousti ti ekane??? xaxaxaxaaxa

  • Well done!

  • very nice!!!!you must produce your own instruments and to sell them

  • you're truly funny and professional :D , thank you .

  • Smashing video!.. what a creative person you are!!!

  • innovative.

For a foreigner he sings very well though !

    Cheers man

  • I was on your show in NYU Poly last night. You were amazing!!! And you know what we didn't know this song. Your turkish musical knowledge is unbelievable.

  • كس امك ياجرار وصل فيك الاستهزاء تصنعه من

    دولاب الملابس ليه وش شايفه

يازنوه اه ليتني عندك والله لكسره على راسك

  • You play such beautiful music, sir.

  • Oh, YEAH!

  • wow mad props to you man! that thing sounds quite good! your really good too, both as a player and a musician! two thumbs up for musicality and ingenuity!

  • amazing man!

  • what is the name of this beautiful song?

  • "Aynaya Baktim (sac beyaz olmus)" I looked in the mirror and my hair was gray

  • Nice job Mr. Wilson! Making the music universal is something special, and thats what you do as I see. Best regards from Istanbul.

  • Thank you for your comments! I miss Istanbul, hope to return soon.

  • Very brave and sounds amazing! :) Cheers!

  • Scott I remember years ago you send me pictures of your, I believe, double necked (or was it triple necked) oud+. I am very impressed with this and I love your playing. Thanks for sharing your talent and your great humor.

  • Thank you for your comments, sounds like great music in Massachusetts!

  • wow

  • greetings form turkey. we are proud of with you. you shoul be an ottomans grandchıld

  • niiiiiiiiiice :)

    5 stars

  • You're completely missing the point of this.

  • you should be making guitars buddy not ouds !

Faruq turunz oud costs about 7000$ !!

    but anyway nice try !

  • My "Fareed of K-Mart" ouds cost $29.95, but you can get 2 for $39.95

  • The guitar is an Arabic instrument because the Arabs who developed the Indian sitar to Guithara which is now guitar

  • @Q8yGodfather And tar come from persian meaning "string".Peace

  • oud had specific dimensions !!

and it's not made out of drawers cheap wood !

It can take up to 6 months to build a good oud !

and you can not use metal ! just like you did for the neck attachment !

there sould not be any ( air) coming out of the back of the oud !

your oud is completely unsealed !

  • If you knew anything about Egyptian history, in the 14th century, all ouds were made out of clothing drawers from the tombs of king Faruk of K-Mart. It was only in the 16th century that cardboard and plastic were introduced into classical oud construction !!

  • @AbuAljori is that the point here? to make a perfect oud? he says, this is how you make a oud out of something THATS NOT SUPPOSED TO BE MADE AN OUD OF.. stupid people... anyway.. awesome oud you builded there, it sounds amazing, very deep sound.

  • Bravo!!!!

  • Thats amazing!!! Wow

  • u r the man

  • waw ... really impressive !

now I can build my own oud without paying so much money for shops. but there is only one problem, as far as I understand there are the neck has specific dimensions (lengnth and width) how did deal with that prblem ?!

    and thanks for the video

  • I wonder if you could make an oud out of a wardrobe?

  • impressive

  • arabic not turkish

  • oops sorry the music is trukish but the orgins of oud is from arabia not turky thhats what i meant

  • watch?v=GdYzmfAPeUM

    watch?v=6B7smMZxFYU

    you can listen original version

  • hahahaha.. I have to say this guy is definitely creative.

  • 2:19 ههههه يقصع قمل

  • you have to be crazy, stupid and cool to be improvise things like this uncle :-)

  • nice idea, but not easy to do. For me the bridge and the neck and those sticks are not easy to do, but when I turn back to my country I will try :)

The song also known as "agla gozlerim"...

  • Thank you for your comment, all my best!

  • the best!!

  • Ha! What a great step up from box-and-rubber-band guitars! How fun!

  • it's "Aynaya Baktim, Sac Bayaz Olmus" - I look in the mirror and my hair is going gray.

  • WOW sounds great. What is the name of this song?

  • What does Turkish music have to do with the Oud(arabic instrument)?

  • Everything, the best ouds are made there. Also, they have great clothing drawers in Turkey, too!

  • very clever!

  • I'll never look at my clothing draws the same way again! Wow, that instrument and your playing both sounded excellent.

  • my mind is blown away.

Best video I've seen all week

  • My wife would bitch to no end about the drawer being gone.

  • You're a real genius. It sounds just like an oud. Much cheaper than an average oud for sure.

  • ahahahhah love it. you're gooooood

  • woooooooow wooooooooooow woooooooooow

    its reaaaaaaaaaaaly nice!!

    what the hill!

exeactly the same voice! or better :)

  • Hi..brother

this is very good idea :))

    i like it so much..

    have a nice day

  • والله ياهي فكره حلوه

  • Are you crazy? He did add something useful, encouragement to people who don't have access but could make something simple that WORKS. He isn't making fun of the oud, he made a fun oud! Good job, Mr G. Ignore the morons.

  • By the way, that thing has amazingly good tone too, better than some I've heard using "traditional" materials.

  • VERY TRUE!

  • @sweetvery22 you dont get the damn point here.. he is not making fun of the oud itself, he made a fun oud.. its nice to se how you can make something actually sounding like a traditional oud with something thats not supposed to be made an oud of...

  • ههههههههههههههههههههههههه

    والله تماااااااام

  • وش رايك يا ابو حسن

    مو احباط لصانعي العود؟؟؟ هههههههههههه

  • Arabic Translation: Wesh your opinion Abu Hassan

    Mo foil makers lute??? Hahahahahaha

Okay, I think something may have been lost in the translation..?

  • هههههههه والله فنان ناس تصنع العود من درج !!

وحنا نحوس الحله حوووس يالله نلقى الزين

  • Arabic translation: Hahahaha God and the artist of the people has made lute!!

Hanna Nhos Hillah Howos Wonderful receive Zein (corn)! Looks like a nice complement, Mr G :)

  • Arabic Translation: Hhahahahahahahahahahahaha

    And God Tmaaaaaaaa

    Indeed. WHAT???

  • awesome work

    keep creative

  • awesome...

  • great idea.....briliant

    thank you for sharing

  • Now that is honkin!

  • The trick here is you need to be An Oud Player like Mr ghazikankan. then you will play anything even a Car Caz tank or a frying pan with 12 strings tuned as (DFADGC) .

But you will get tired of the look and you will seek an expensive OUD, believe me.

  • Fantastic, that sounds much better than any Iraqi oud. Nice singing too..

  • Sounds better than his real ouds. Wonder why?

  • simply awesome...

  • What kind of strings are used? Are they made specifically for an oud? Could another type of string be substituted? Also, it's true that the complexity is in the neck and pegbox. However there is no fancy bracing anywhere. Just simple hardware store angle brackets on the back of the neck. I think I would like to take this simple idea and build a slightly more instrument-looking version. Like build my own box and brace the back of the neck with a carved block of wood. Thanks for the vid!!

  • Creative indeed.. and I enjoyed listening! Although let's be honest... the intro is a teaser making it look like he'd actually describe *how* to make one... the real complexity is in the neck and fretboard! Hope this vid brings lots of energy your way...

  • You made me hate the day I bought my expensive oud, I wish I saw this before then:)

Very creative my friend, and a very excellent oud player, more taqsims please

    Thanks

  • woooow make one for me and i will buy it from u

  • Now do we find out how to make a Baglama Hydra from a closet?

  • Ha! Fantastic comment.

  • ;-)))))!

    Great!

  • ROTFLOL Are you available for performances? I'm picturing my next taxsim right now.

  • Scott, Gothic Cabinet Craft has NOTHING on you. hehehe. Layla

  • OMG...hilarious and informative! I am going to enter my husband's sock draw right now!

  • That should have said 'empty'...not enter...I'll empty AFTER I enter! 8)

  • This is amazing!

FYI.. He keeps touching his hair because the song he's singing in Turkish Aynaya Baktim mentions having grey hair :)

  • OMG!!! THIS IS AMAZING!!!

  • that's just great
