  • the g2x is the best phone out honestly. but great video bob! every time im looking at a phone review i always double check and make sure i watch yours first!

  • @d0ttd0tcurve Thanks! Keep in mind that this Schmackdown is with the version of the Nexus S that runs on T-Mobile.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • I got the G2X and it kicks both these phones asses! I had the G2 and it was soooo slow but the G2X is way faster

  • NEXUS S FTW IT HAS SUCH A LONG BATTERY

  • i ran my quadrant on my nexus s and it had no problem with 2d and 3d graphic test!! this is unreliable video

  • @Mrliljp11 Quadrant has been updated a couple times since this video was made. One of those updates made Quadrant compatible with Android 2.3.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • If you really think that the Super AMOLED is the best you really havent used and iPhone 4 have you?

  • Both are ok, but myTOuch 4g can be slow and laggy at MANY times idk if its just me, it dosent have much great battery, then the nexus s dosen't support tmobile and 4g speeds with the hd video camera. ima wait for the htc sensation or newer phones so, Im going back to my iphone 4 :)

  • Wow they just because SHIITED on the Nexus i know its not that bad...

  • Tmobile FTW!!!!!

  • tmobile 4g FTW!

  • Quadrant failed because the version of Quadrant you are using is not compatible with Gingerbread. It has nothing to do with the phone itself. You has fast boot enabled on the mytouch 4g as well. If you're going to accurately compare two phones, make sure the benchmarks are compatible with the hardware, and turn off fast boot on the mytouch.

  • Quadrant failed because the version of Quadrant you are using is not compatible with Gingerbread. It has nothing to do with the phone itself.

  • you have fastboot on, on your mt4g

  • so wich 1 is beter in yur opinion my touch 4g or nexus s

  • @TheMxcnkid In my opinion, the myTouch 4G is better, but it's a close call. The Nexus S has a wonderful screen and a sexy design, but the myTouch 4G has 4G data speed and that makes the difference for me.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • @wirefly It also has 720p while the Nexus doesn't. And don't forget the SD card support.

  • the mytouch 4g has fastboot turned on

  • @diilpace i have off and still fast..

  • I think this review makes the Nexus S look a little worse than it REALLY is but overall I'd have to say that the MyTouch 4G is the best Android phone available to date.

All you people complaining about the UI are smoking crack! Its not "slow" nor "buggy". If you wanted boring, vanilla Android you should have bought a G2

  • @jinc11 Can you tell my why you think the Mytouch 4G is better than the Nexus S?

    Im curious

  • I just want to say that the MyTouch 4G booted that fast because you had it in "fast boot" mode, which means that when it is shut down, its in hibernate mode similar to a laptop.

  • The MT4 does not boot that fast, you had the phone in "sleep mode" as the OS is stored in the memory, real booting times are very close.

  • @fafeifa actually yes it does Boot that fast. MyTouch 4G has the new "quick boot" feature built in. turning the phone completely off, then turning it on and thats the time you get. its awesome.

  • @kennyJRT pull the battery out and see how long it boots, i know cuz i have both phones and both are nice but the review is not accurate.

  • @fafeifa Let's remember how people use these phones in the real world. I didn't do anything to the myTouch 4G, yet noticed that it booted much faster than the Nexus S. The myTouch 4G has a feature that lets it start up from an off condition MUCH faster than the Nexus S, a feature that the Nexus S does not have. No one will take the battery out of their myTouch 4G when they shut it down at the airport or overnight... they will simply turn it off and back on.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • @wirefly well i just said the review is not accurate as you failed to mention it in the video while you perfectly knew that the MT had such a feature. While the feature is nice, it also drains the battery if you have this little battery and you trying to conserve it for this important call, you may get an unpleasant surprise the next day you turn the phone on.

  • @fafeifa oh I see...

  • not to say your wrong but thats not supposed to be black on the mytouch 4g, so FAIL. i have a theme that is black and you can really tell

  • 9:29 Phone Sex!!! = ]

  • @Bob

Sorry for the double post, but you're doing people a dis-service by not properly using Quadrant. First, it's not a "processor" benchmark. It benches CPU, GPU, memory, and even the file system. The score you get on the free version is a flawed score that should not be used for comparative purposes.

Get the paid version and you'll see how these phones break down. You'll see the CPU is superior on the MyTouch, while the GPU is superior on the Nexus (when it runs).

  • I was disappointed to hear you call the lack of AT&T 3G support on the Nexus S to be "crippling." Really? Ok, I could understand if you brought up the lack of support for T-Mobile's "4G," but even then, crippling would be a bit excessive. Both of these phones are sold with a carrier subsidy on T-Mobile, so of course it's not going to support AT&T's 3G Bands! The MyTouch 4G doesn't support AT&T 3G either!

  • @jaykresge We actually went to a store, stood in line and purchased an "unlocked" Nexus S at the full retail price. I think it's fair to assume that many people purchasing the unlocked version at $500+ think that the Nexus S will work equally well on T-Mobile and AT&T, otherwise what's the point of "unlocking"? We want to let those people know that AT&T does not work as well as T-Mobile, even in a full-price "unlocked" Nexus S.

    Wirefly

  • @wirefly

Which store? The only store I'm aware of as selling them is Best Buy. They give you an option to purchase unlocked, or the option to buy it subsidized on T-Mobile. They are also told to advise you that if you buy it unlocked, while it will work on AT&T, it won't support 3G

That doesn't change my point either. You're slamming the phone as being "crippled" for not supporting AT&T 3G. I think you should put your AT&T sim into the Myotuch as well. Then compare.

  • @jaykresge Best Buy. I didn't do the buying, so I don't know if the purchaser was told about the lack of AT&T 3G capability - however, that information didn't filter down to me and others looking at the Nexus S may not know that, either.

Since the technology exists for the phone to work at 3G on two networks, I think "crippled" is as correct as any other term. The device's performance is diminished on AT&T. Perhaps I should say that it's "AT&T challenged"?

    Wirefly

  • @wirefly

Sure, but make sure you say the same about the MyTouch 4G, as it is also "crippled" in that same department. The Nexus S was designed for developer use on T-Mobile, as well as Euro/Asian 3G bands.

The fact that you put the AT&T sim into a T-Mobile phone shows bias. It would also help if you understood what quadrant does before commenting on that program as well. That was laughable.

  • @jaykresge With respect, I'm not convinced. The myTouch is actually branded the "T-Mobile myTouch 4G." No one would expect a device branded "T-Mobile" to work with AT&T. The Nexus S is branded "Google," which has no carrier implications. Yes, the myTouch 4G is made by HTC, but it is sold as the T-Mobile myTouch 4G.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • @wirefly

You're not stupid, nor would I stoop to that level. But, you are obviously playing dumb. So this comment is for the readers, not you:

Bob works for Wirefly. They are in the business of selling subsidized phones online. They are not a (credible) reviews site. The Nexus S is ONLY sold through Best Buy (and they make it obvious that you're buying a phone for T-Mobile). Bob has to show bias towards the MyTouch, because it is a phone that Wirefly sells. That is why he slammed the Nexus S.

  • @jaykresge I think his point is...don't bother buying this phone for AT&T...you will be very disappointed...getting 0.5mbps on edge...buying unlocked phones in the USA is a waste of time and money....who wants a SUPER phone that only gets 2G speeds....

  • face it samsuck fans . samsung will never be as good as HTC period. So all those 10 million suckers that bought the samsung galaxy phone wont see the official 2.2 for a long time. I got suckered with the behold 2 when it was touted to have great hardware a year and a half ago. Now the samsung galaxy 2 will probably have 2.3 so many won't see 2.2 on the first galaxy . why because samsuck wants you to buy a new phone instead of supporting their current devices. yes samsung you suck

  • Wow this is amazing. You come on here and do a comparison yet totally cripple one of the phones your comparing. The Nexus S is capable of the same so called 4g speeds you are getting on the Mytouch 4g if you put a Tmobile sim in it. Also you put the Mytouch into fast boot (ie no boot animation) and then comment on how fast it boots....ridiculous!!

  • @Trumble76 Actually, the Nexus S doesn't work with the highest-speed version (HSPA+) of T-Mobile's network, while the myTouch 4G does. If you are in an area with HSPA+ coverage, the myTouch 4G will get significantly faster connection speeds than the Nexus S. I'm not saying that the Nexus S is bad, just that it's not as good as the myTouch 4G in this regard. I didn't demonstrate network connection in this video, so the AT&T SIM in the Nexus S wasn't at issue.

    Wirefly

  • it was too quick! doesnt the mytouch got htc sense UI? how come he didn't go over what that is! need more details of what the phones can do besides storage.

  • It needs to be noted that the Nexus S is NOT "crippled". The Samsung nor Google have made the ATT speeds slower. The issue is based on hardware. The 3G networks for T-Mobile and AT&T are different frequencies. Meaning that the internal cell modem simply can't connect to the AT&T network since it is designed to run on T-Mobile. There are very few phones that will run on all 3G networks, the Nokia N8 is one of the only that I know of.

  • @Marc128000 So, it's possible to build a phone that runs on all 3G networks (since the Nokia N8 does it), yet Google and Samsung build a phone that doesn't have that capability. If that is not "crippling" the phone on AT&T, what would you call it? The manufacturer made a decision to reduce the performance of the device when used in a certain way, although there are examples of others that have full performance. You can use another word, but it is still "crippled."

    Wirefly

  • I'm a fan of the Mytouch 4g but im more of a phone appreciator and i noticed something about the video, the networks are turned on , T-mobile's HSPA + is being ran on the Mytouch 4g while AT&T's EDGE(2G) is being run on the Nexus S which doesn't seem quite fair, it seems a big handicap in this smackdown

  • @mariobudhai

Yup, the author decided to take two phones sold on T-Mobile, and then put an AT&T sim in one.

  • Lol at all the little idiots taking this personally. Get a life!!!

  • So how's my Vibrant users like their phones? The myTouch4G Ownz the Nexus S lol. Nexus S is just a plastic Vibrant slap on it with Gingerbread 2.3.

  • LOL really biased review. stupid reviewer ever

  • I love My Mytouch 4G! Best Android Phone I ever Used!

  • Interesting review. First let me say that I own both the myTouch4G and the Nexus S. I have been very unhappy with my myTouch4G overall. The specs are GREAT but the software design is quite possibly the worst ive seen on an android phone. THe UI is buggy and cheesy to me. LOTS of potential. Nexus S has a pure clean/fast/simple UI and the screen beats the myTouch4G out of the water. I recommended the Nexus S but you should look at the myTouch4G in the store to decide which is best for you.

  • @NorfolkWeather you have a defective device because there is nothing buggy about my mytouch 4g

  • @NorfolkWeather I had the same experience with the MT4G software making me angry. But I use it with Cyanogen Mod instead of the stock rom and I have to say when relieved of it's bulk (sense ui) it becomes an exceptional device.

  • quadrant was built for Snapdragon ARM processors

  • that boot speed on the nexus s is fast wowww

  • @lanceealy the my touch was faster!

  • this smackdown sucked. didn't go over pic/vid quality, texting, voice command or anything. It didn't even have a tmobile 3g ability for the sim. I think the mytouch is favored because you can get it on wirefly and the nexus is only at best buy right now.

  • @Manenuff21, I totally agree. What a moron. He acts like the quadrant test is such a big deal. Obviously there is reason why 2.3 is not liking the app...and that makes the NS a bad phone? Stupid...

  • why would you compare a smackdown without using the t-mobile sim when going against another tmobile device? how will you be able to compare speeds?

  • MyTouch is KING AGAIN!!

  • thanks bob! i'm happy i bought the mt4g. i love this phone! i almost bought the damn vibrant... that would have been a pain! i wish the mt4g had the super amoled screen though, not that it's lcd screen is bad

  • you hate on the nexus s.

  • when u buy this phone from wirefly(dot)com does it come with the plain white box like u have in the video or do you get the packaging from t-mobile that has everything packaged in the carrying case

  • @adilworth04 At the moment, Wirefly is not selling the Nexus S. The package we show in the unboxing video is exactly what we bought at another retailer.

    Wirefly

  • @wirefly I'm sorry I wasn't specific. I was talking about the mytouch 4g when I asked if u buy it off of wirefly will it have the packaging from tmobile that's a carrying case or a plain box.

  • @wirefly Ah... I'm not in the office now but will check on Monday.

    Wirefly

  • This was great info. I was debating between the two phones.

  • the nexus is over rated just like the iphone

  • the nexus s's chin isn't called "chin" anymore, its called a "DONK" XD

  • the nexus isn't crippled its just made for tmobile, but their saying u can use it on at&t if u want, but u won't have to hack it to do so.

  • i think the MyTouch 4G wins here not just because of the 3.5G(4G, whatever) speeds. It has WiFi calling. and that is cake, win, and internet.

  • @r0b0leadr so does th nexus s google voice

  • Nexus S appears to be a Vibrant with a front camera. Can't believe this phone which was supposed to be a "flagship" doesn't even run on T-Mobile's 4G network.

  • @quakerwildcat its not a vibrant with a cam it dosent even have touchwiz ui like the vibrant its a nexus phone with a front cam plus tmobile so called 4g isnt even really 4g it almost has the same speeds as there 3g now

  • The Nexus is seemed promising to my next phone but not anymore

  • Why don't you turn off fast-boot on the MT4G and boot it up from off? The Nexus S would boot up first then.

  • we can't assume that all applications will function properly with 2.3 Gingerbread. You didn't give the nexus enough credit especially by saying you will never get high speed on the nexus s. yes you will get that speed if you are on t-mobile. this phone is intended for t-mobile so you should be using their sim.

  • @IAlanakiI 3G speeds yes, but not 4G

  • Quadrant doesn't work on 2.3

  • @wirefly what is the difference between the armv7 processors, i see that the nexus s has a rev 2 and the mytouch has a rev 1, does that mean the nexus s processor is better

  • mt4g ftw

  • mytouch is so ugly
