i'm 15 and i wasn't aware of who Elizabeth Sladen was until she had passed, but i am the biggest fan of her now, and i feel immense guilt that i didn't discover this amazing lady sooner. R.I.P Lis, i can surely say that EVERYONE will miss you terribly. and we all love you.
She kept her illness so hush-hush (as was her right, to be honest), I was blindsided when I opened the paper that morning and saw that she had passed, I let out this huge gasp, my mother wondered what was wrong, and when I told her even she knew who Elisabeth was, and she was never a Who fan. And this is a small paper in Louisiana, the fact that they actually wrote up a piece on it shows just how much of an impact she had.
she will always be one of my favourite companions because she really was unique, and they're right, when i think of the doctor who companion, SHE is the one that comes into my head, she's so youthful but at the same time you can see all that experience that she's got, she saves the earth every day the only difference between her and the doctor, in my opinion, is that she's content to remain on earth. but she really will go on forever, all the fans she's got will make sure of it
RIP. I only started watching doctor who when Billie Piper was with Chris and seeing this made me see how much of an impact on the doctor who universe she was. It's more sad that she was only 63 years old.
I write with tears in my eyes as well...I love you so much...my Sarah Jane. Never will there be such a companion as you were. I will miss you and think of you often. :(
Just one more. I'm sure many of you have seen: This Is Your Life Tom Baker 3. If you haven't, dial it up on Youtube and watch it, I won't say more and be a spoiler. Just watch it if you haven't.
Elisabeth Sladen as Sarah Jane was always the best companion, when she returned to the show I was thrilled, and it was so well done. Thank heavens Russell knew instinctively what was important. But I always knew it was very much because of the actress, her skill, her warmth, her character. God bless her now.
Its Really hard to think she has died, It doesn't seem like its true,Everytime i watched her spin off series Sarah Jane Adventures it took me to a whole different world, My ife won't be the same without you Elisabeth! R.I.P
Also, I recommend viewing on You Tube: 2011 BAFTA Actor and Actress Deaths of this Year-includes Elisabeth Sladen. And many of you younger fans might enjoy seeing the DW episode The Five Doctors. In it, Sarah Jane is reunited with the 3rd Doctor and gets to meet the 5th doctor Peter Davison. It also ties in to the DW episode The End of Time.
Thank you Janet for posting this. At 56, I got to see all the DW episodes and agree with David and Katy that Lis was the ultimate Doctor Who girl. More than that, I think Anjli summed up how wonderful Lis was by fleshing out an endearing and enduring character in Sarah Jane Smith. In all the Sci-Fi world, the two best stories ever done on TV were Pyramid of Mars from DW and The Temptation of Sarah Jane Smith from SJA. That Lis did both says a lot. May God cherish her in heaven.
I never saw the old doctor who, and first met Sarah Jane mhen she was in School Reunion, but as soon as she apeared, i knew she was fantastic. I have watched a couple of her old episodes on this, and have followed the SJA series since it started. She is, and always will be, the best companion ever.
Liz Sladen was a fantastic actor and will never be forgotten. good bye sarah jane, good bye Elisabeth Sladen, we will never forget you.
Elisabeth Sladen is brilliant. I wasn't born in time to see the old Doctor Who, but I still felt massively connected to her, because she was the proof that companions never gave up on the adventure. I met her properly in the episode with Rose, and it gave me some confidence that Rose wouldn't just go back to her mum and forget about him.
RIP Elisabeth, Sarah Jane, the best companion by far.
I was shocked when i heared, elisebeth sladen is.. a wonderful person, even though i never had the pleasure of meeting her she will be sorely missed by all whovians
Elisabeth sladen will never be forgotten and i hope she knows that.Although Elisabeth is sadly gone and she can't be with us any more, to all her fans of Sarah jane adevtures we will celebrate every Febuary !st and we will remember the most wonderful actress from 1948-2011 and PLEASE never forget Elisabeth sladen. Amen(i agree)
I... My God. I can't come up with anything. Elizabeth Sladen was a beautiful, amazing woman who played that Wonderful and amazing character. I was lucky enough to see her in a local pantomime. I... I first saw her back when I first fell in love with Doctor Who - Watching old episodes with my Dad, I've been a massive fan since. I never thought her as old. To me, she was timeless. She still is. Farewell, Our Sarah Jane, Time and Space has halted for you.
I wasn't Lucky enough to meet her in person. And I wasn't Around till LATTTTTE AFTER she was born or when she is in Doctor Who. So the only chance I got to see her in action was Sarah Jane Adventures Which Is a real Sham as I love her she is so inspirational. Its so sad how she died and I only thought she was 40 Max and finding out she was 65 was a great surprise
no one told me until a hour ago, the whole time i was like, "No, dad you're lying she isn't dead!" for a full 40 minutes, until he showed me the wiki post and i was devastated. I didn't even know she had cancer, i really need to start reading the newspaper. :(
Damn. Anytime I think of her passing, I still cry. She made such an impression on me. Doctor Who was my favorite show growing up. I named my daughter Sarah Elisabeth after her :) And she's 11 now and loves watching Doctor Who with Daddy. :)
@DWhoFan2011 Early in the commentary on "Planet of Evil" Tom, with great feeling, remarks to Lis, "I don't think I've ever been as truly happy as I was then, with you, Elisabeth". He also teases her affectionately about a scene where he is looking at her "absolutely adoringly" and then a bit later says he "fantasized about adopting her".
It was only after Lis left that Tom got difficult to work with. He genuinely adored her, AND their DW time together.
I was home sick when i first heard the news. My dad told me, and i was devestated. She was my name sake, and my idol. I wanted to be just like her. She was wonderful and I know while she may be gone, her legacy will never die.
when sarah jane first left the tardis so abrutly i was left bereft for 30 years and then she came back and then again suddenly sarah jane is gone and im heart broken all over again
I think its great. People loved her back in the Pertwee-Baker years, and she made a come-back. She Amazed people of the Classic Series, and came back to do it again with the New Series, and she did brilliant. I love that when I look back to School Reunion 'Who's she?' and to Today, she is still the Greatest Companion Ever.
I've got an idea...let's give Sarah her own spinoff! and put K9 on it...what do we call it? Sarah Jane in Action? Sarah's Story? The Sarah Jane Adventures? Naaaa, let's call it K9 and Company! after all a triangular shaped cardboard box with a rc motor moving it will draw more viewers than Lis Sladen ever will! Oh by the way, let's cancel Doctor Who! Nobody wants to see it!
Is the entire planet-wide TV industry composed of brain-damaged spastics???
its amazing how much you can miss someone and the extreme heartache it can cause you i think we can all agree that she is an inspirational person and a breathe taking actress and she will always have a place in our hearts. we all love you Elisabeth :')
Still can't believe she's dead, I was devastated when I found out and thought that it was a mistake. But I think, had she told anyone about her illness, then people may not miss her that much as it was expected. Anyhow, we shouldn't dwell on her death, instead we should remember her for the brilliant actor and person she truly was
i realy miss sarah jane she was so amasing shes my fave campanian i started watching doctor who a couple of years ago and have tryed to watch all of her old episodes and i loved them i realy love sarah jane adventurs all my family watched it and now i fealo sad every time i see a old episodes :'( love you sarah jane :'( <3
Sarah Jane Smith was the best Doctor Who companion of them all. Really loved her performance on "The Time Warrior", her DW debut. I got goosebumps watching this tribute. Elisabeth Sladen is missed by millions.
Odd how someone you've never met, can impact your life so strongly. Liz was a timeless beauty and an effortless talent. Maybe one day i'll be able to see this video. I've blubbered all the way through three times now and still can't get a grip on my emotions. Goodbye...MY Sarah Jane.
I was really shocked about this news she will never be forgotten for young and old people adults and teenagers. R.I.P Elisabeth Sladen or as known in the doctor who family Sarah Jane Smith
We will never forget you Elisabeth. Your wonderful legacy will live on forever and we are grateful to have it. Thank you for so many memories. The ultimate Dr Who companion, and so much more. A great loss.God bless, my Sarah Jane Smith. X
I doubt Elisabeth will EVER be forgotten. I think future DrWho episodes will have a little nod to her as tribute now and again. How can they not?
Im about to go into 3rd year of a 3D Art and Animation course that does stuff like SFX on videos, CGI and other stuff along those lines. Doctor Who and others like it inspired me to do this. I will miss the opportunity to never work alongside a legend like Miss Sladen.
Farewell Elisabeth Sladen...may you find peace in the TARDIS in the sky.
Thank you Janet for posting this. I wasn't allowed to watch this on CBBC's site and BBC America didn't show it after the premier.
I had a crush on her the moment I first saw her in Ark in Space. A nice reminder of the air vent scene here. I went to my first weekend convention because she was going to be there in 1981. I believe it was also her first, at least her first in America. Sweet and charming and everything one would expect, genuine.
I never thought that the death of a TV personality would touch me so much. And what a terrific song to have as a tribute. She may be the face I won't forget. I'll never forget you Lis. Rest in Peace
RIP - Elisabeth Sladen. Thanks for making the character of Sarah Jane so entertaining and bringing so much joy to millions of people. Goodbye our Sarah Jane.
For someone i never actually met she made an impact as the doctors companion on me whe iwas a little girl, and i was happy to see her apear with David Tenant and in her own adventures.
She will be missed. The music at the end was the same song at my mothers farewell.tears
.i grew up watching elisabeth sladen in dr who in the 70s - for me the best era of the series still.
and only six months ago i got to meet her at a film/tv convention.she was inundated by eager fans wanting her autograph, most of whom knew her only from the sarah jane adventures and were not even born when she first appeared in dr who.
and it occurs to me now, that maybe she knew then even while meeting the fans just a few months ago how ill she was,but still attended.
This left me weeping! And it really does represent some of the love that we all shared for her. Fans united in one common cause to remember his remarkable woman!
A very touching tribute to Liz Sladen. A shame that Tom Baker or John Leeson (VA of K-9) didn't say anything. Would have been nice to have seen both of em.
@HPislegend248 Yep he is. In fact here's what he had to say about her passing: "Sarah Jane dead? No, impossible! Impossible. Only last week I agreed to do six new audio adventures with her for Big Finish Productions," he wrote. "She can't be dead. But she is, she died yesterday morning. Cancer. I had no idea she was ill; she was so private, never wanted any fuss, and now, gone..."
Tom Baker is still alive. Nick Courtney (Brigadier) passed in February this year, Ian Marter (Harry) passed away in the 80s and now Lis Sladen. Tom is the only one remaining from his FIRST season as the Doctor besides John Levene (Sgt.Benton).
I didn't mean that in a metaphorical sense of course...
Just meant the man is still very much alive in reply to 'RaphGirl''s comment... He's still just as batshit crazy as he's always been and I find that incredibly comforting for some reason... especially now.
Lovely. Such a loss. I think the fact that so many many people went through the exact same emotions this last week speaks volumes about what an amazing woman Lis was. Disbelief, shock, tears, anger and yes, finally some sort of acceptance. But never forgotten. Never ever. We love you Lis and wherever you are, I hope everyone there is as overjoyed to have you as the world was saddened to lose you.
Don't worry guys - we'll all see her at a Doctor Who convention in the next life.
I know... It's not right. But then again I can see why this news is a 'bigger deal'. You've seen the reactions... millions of people all over the world were deeply saddened by this because she spanned the decades and generations... The Brig will always be a gem of the Classic series but most fans of the new series haven't the foggiest idea of who he is. Lis was an icon to people in their 40s as well as 6 year olds.
Sarah Must live and only the doctor hi,self her self know's jsut where and how she will continue on even in all of doctor who fandom she will live in our hearts forever yes she sure does and will do that as long as there are nay of us ot carry The doctor on and so! it must be!
I had tears in my eyes this entire video, and by the end...do I even need to say it? I've never watched Sarah-Jane with Jon Pertwee,I only knew her from the episodes with Tennant, and also a few Tom Baker episodes, but I loved her character so much, she somehow connected with me,and I guess every last person watching. She will definitely be missed. RIP Elisabeth Sladen, our lovely Sarah-Jane.
My brother watched Doctor Who with Sarah Jane Smith when I was little , so of course,I did too. Unfortunately I was too little to remember them. When she came on in series 2 I knew who Elisabeth Sladen was and her history with the Doctor but I didn't realize just how much I would grow to love her. I had to watch the Sarah Jane Adventures so I could follow the character. My prayers go out to her family and friends, she will be missed.
Tom Baker and Lis Sladen, my Doctor and my companion, when I discovered the show when I was a kid. This new has made me feel very sad. I won't forget you Sarah Jane.
When David Tennant said, "MY Sarah Jane." I think we all felt the exact same way. That's what Elisabeth Sladen brought to us all & why we'll always cherish the companion we knew & the woman who played her.
Doctor Who should do this ginormous tribute. Like an epic episode with like everyone who worked with her on Doctor Who, she derserves so much more. I would have been honoured to meet her and I'm sure I would have loved her straight away
I miss her. What an amazing person.

I've always hated that song "She". Not any more.

Thanks, BBC America should be ashamed on letting the Whovians on this side of the pond seeing this tribute.

so unexpected and sad
.i grew up watching elisabeth sladen in dr who in the 70s - for me the best era of the series still.
and only six months ago i got to meet her at a film/tv convention.she was inundated by eager fans wanting her autograph, most of whom knew her only from the sarah jane adventures and were not even born when she first appeared in dr who.
and it occurs to me now, that maybe she knew then even while meeting the fans just a few months ago how ill she was,but still attended.

A very touching tribute to Liz Sladen. A shame that Tom Baker or John Leeson (VA of K-9) didn't say anything. Would have been nice to have seen both of em.
RaphGirl 10 months ago
@RaphGirl Is Tom Baker still alive? He must be ancient.
HPislegend248 10 months ago
@HPislegend248 Yep he is. In fact here's what he had to say about her passing: "Sarah Jane dead? No, impossible! Impossible. Only last week I agreed to do six new audio adventures with her for Big Finish Productions," he wrote. "She can't be dead. But she is, she died yesterday morning. Cancer. I had no idea she was ill; she was so private, never wanted any fuss, and now, gone..."
RaphGirl 10 months ago
@RaphGirl He sounds a bit demented, if you don't mind me saying so.
HPislegend248 10 months ago
@HPislegend248 Tom Baker is 77.
mccpcorn 10 months ago
@mccpcorn Really? I thought he would be 90 something by now. When was he Doctor?
HPislegend248 10 months ago 2
@HPislegend248
According to Wiki he is, born in 1934.
mccpcorn 9 months ago
@HPislegend248
PinkPunkGirl80 10 months ago 3
@PinkPunkGirl80 I have no idea who half of those people are. Still sad though. Will really miss Liz though. Still can't quite believe she's dead.
HPislegend248 10 months ago
Tom Baker will NEVER be ancient. He could turn a hundred tomorrow and he'd still be ageless.
Lee86Cr 10 months ago
@Lee86Cr OK regeneration is a gift unto those who play the Doctor. Its a fictional concept. I think you're a little too into Who.
HPislegend248 10 months ago
:D
I didn't mean that in a metaphorical sense of course...
Just meant the man is still very much alive in reply to 'RaphGirl''s comment... He's still just as batshit crazy as he's always been and I find that incredibly comforting for some reason... especially now.
Lee86Cr 10 months ago
@Lee86Cr Oh OK. I wasn't alive when Who was on then but I'll take your word for it.

From a long time Doctor Who fan in the U.S., thanks for posting the tribute.
We did not have an opportunity to see this tribute after last night's Doctor Who ep.
I was surprised how sad the news of her death made me when I heard of it last week... and even more surprised how sad my children were.
Thanks again for sharing!

Goodbye, Lis X

Thanks for posting this up, I originally mist it when it went out on CBBC, yesterday.
Sarah Jane, the ‘quintessential Doctor Who companion’, that’s about right.
R.I.P. Elisabeth Sladen, you will be missed by generations both old and new.

its terrible news and all. very sad. but what about the brigadier?! why didnt bbc mention him in ANYTHING!!>??
JoeAndTeddy 10 months ago
@JoeAndTeddy
