Low wages help everyone. Cheap labour leads to lower prices, which lead to higher business profits, which lead to more capital investment, which lead to business expansion, which leads to MORE JOBS.
And the current housing and economic slump of the US can be partly solved by letting more immigrants in to consume and to buy the homes on sale.

1. Companies can take the small and decreasing amount of US graduates and people going into a field and go to Congress and point to the fact that there are not a lot of US graduates and ask for more H1Bs.
2. This will push compensation and job security down decreasing US people going into a field.
This is called a self fulfilling prophecy. If you heavily outsource a job field then people in the US will realize that a field has poor job security and less compensation(increase the supply, decrease the demand, decrease the price). US people will then tend not go into that field and will not go tens of thousands of dollars into debt going to grad school to get a degree for this field.

I have several friends on H1-Bs. Shady businesses say that they are filling "skilled" positions when they are really filling entry level positions, with people with 2 masters degrees from India who get paid $50k/yr. American college grads are not hired because they have the freedom to get experience and then leave the company if they don't pay competitively. H1-B visas don't share that problem... it's a form of indentured servitude and Washington is to blame for not enforcing the rules.
And the jobs gained, are bs jobs that pay no more than 20k a year, no benifits, and no real futere, so it takes two of those jobs to compare with one that has been sent elsewhere. So when you have to have 2 jobs to survive, your children suffers and it creates a whole bigger problem. Its not about being racist, Its about being an American. My read of the audience clapping is there is wide concern in Silicon Valley of getting people with science Ph.D's, trained in American universities, to come work for companies in America. The problem is half of science Ph.D's are immigrant students. They are worried that Americans are not pursuing these degrees, but in the short term they want immigrants. I understand the low skill angle on this, but just explaining their approval of what Clinton said.

every time i apply for a Job "Im an Oracle DBA" with 15 years experience i get to talk to someone from India and I know they are not going to give me a job because I am American and White, they are looking for other people from India with H1B visa to give the job to... its very disappointing to know that i have worked hard gone to school got certified and my profession is now dominated by people from India that are not even US citizens.. IT work is not rocket science, it is the GREED of certain companies, both US, (Microsoft) and Indian, (TATA consulting). Just because India suffers from overpopulation, (which is their own doing) the solution should not be bankrupting qualified Americans that have been in IT for years. Should we enact Indian exclusion act from our visa programs like the Chinese exclusion act in late 1800s.The way Indians use up H1Bs is really unfair for foreign students from other countries who are honest and really work hard to get jobs in their fields.When I see Indians at work,I always wonder what my buddies from college couldn't do that they could do,I mean we all graduated with GPA above 3.5,all smart guys.I even heard that Indians pay other Indians in India to do their Thesis for them.

The whole H-1B thing is a fraud. It should be ended. The TEMPORARY imported workers were supposed to go home after the boom was over. They never left. Instead they are now occupying jobs millions of Americans can do.

This is how Indians cheat their way into the U.S.They first get unaccredited bachelor degrees from fake Indian colleges,then they apply to small U.S college programs for Masters,then once they get here,they suck upto the professors(Indian too?)so they don't ever pay tuition,then upon graduation,if they don't land a job,they go work for Indian consulting firms who apply their H1 regardless of whether they work or not or if its their field.H1 states that one must work in the area of their degree

In Europe, countries subsidize foreign workers, whereas the United States restricts foreign workers by pointless quotas and other bureaucratic measures.
Low wages help everyone. Cheap labour leads to lower prices, which lead to higher business profits, which lead to more capital investment, which lead to business expansion, which leads to MORE JOBS.
And the current housing and economic slump of the US can be partly solved by letting more immigrants in to consume and to buy the homes on sale.

Low wages help everyone? So you think the economy will do better if everyone is making minimum wage? Is that a good way to incentivize the smartest and best workers? To treat them like slaves? I don't think so. We've been hearing that low wages and cheap prices will be better for everyone but look at the econ. It's a disaster. Low wages mean people won't have any money to spend and buy things. No demand == lower profits for companies and more layoffs - as we are now seeing.

The current housing slump was caused by thaking high-paying jobs away from Americans. Immigrants don't come here to buy things. They come here to send their money back to their home country. $10,000 USA pays CASH for a house in India. They would be crazy to want to buy an $800K house in the U.S. They come here to get money and then go home. Letting in millions of immigrants for the past 10 years hasn't created the results you claim.

We are in this econ crisis because we've imported 4-5 million workers from India who FAKE their skills and resumes and can't do the IT work that Americans can do. Meanwhile, they sending their paychecks HOME - to India. Do the math: what is 5 million X $50K a year? That's how much WEALTH is being siphoned out of our economy by these people every single year. These workers have FAILED to perform as advertised. The CA state gov't is going BANKRUPT. That doesn't count L-1 visas which HAVE NO CAP!

According to Dept. of Labor, 89% if U.S. H-1B visas go to Indian nationals. 89%!
On top of all that, the Indian workers are ranked 124th in world worker productivity - behind Cuba's, Guatemala's, and Ecuador's. We've imported 4 MILLION Indians since 1998 to take our best jobs.
Also, why isn't anyone noticing that these imported workers have FAILED to perform as advertised? Americans are ranked FOURTH in productivity. Why are we importing unproductive workers?

Does everyone know that Apple does not employ a single software engineer in India? In fact they closed their R&D center in India in 2005. Apple's stock is around 90.
Meanwhile, Sun Microsystems which won't hire Americans and employs only Indian and Chinese software developers has a stock price of around $5.
MS is going down the tubes because of foreign programmers, HP is too.

When I walk out of a tandoori training mission, I have 5 more phone calls waiting for me at home - all of them are for projects sent to India, screwed up, which companies now call me up to fix. 1. Companies can take the small and decreasing amount of US graduates and people going into a field and go to Congress and point to the fact that there are not a lot of US graduates and ask for more H1Bs.
2. This will push compensation and job security down decreasing US people going into a field.

This is called a self fulfilling prophecy. If you heavily outsource a job field then people in the US will realize that a field has poor job security and less compensation(increase the supply, decrease the demand, decrease the price). US people will then tend not go into that field and will not go tens of thousands of dollars into debt going to grad school to get a degree for this field.

citizenship info: only 1% of h1b workers get green card after 5 years of usa.
46% of those people acquiring citizenship in fiscal year 2006 were from countries like iran, iraq , pakistan.(many of which were never before in usa)

If you would consider my job of $200K a cheap job then yes the H1B program has stolen a lot of jobs. FYI the Indian community in the Bay Area is considered the second richest ethnic group after the Jews. Most of the Indians are or were on a H1B visa at some point of time.

I have several friends on H1-Bs. Shady businesses say that they are filling "skilled" positions when they are really filling entry level positions, with people with 2 masters degrees from India who get paid $50k/yr. American college grads are not hired because they have the freedom to get experience and then leave the company if they don't pay competitively. H1-B visas don't share that problem... it's a form of indentured servitude and Washington is to blame for not enforcing the rules.

That's all well and good, if our own engineers and scientists aren't stuck instead flipping burgers for McD's! There is no shortage of educated/skilled workers in this country and hasn't been, all along. Dobbs is often an idiot, but he was saying that these jobs go to "entry level", which our grads would normally get, as opposed to more advanced positions, which the visas ar for. Also, not shown here but H-1B visas are being scammed for unskilled workers as well, instead of L-1's. All a sham!

My read of the audience clapping is there is wide concern in Silicon Valley of getting people with science Ph.D's, trained in American universities, to come work for companies in America. The problem is half of science Ph.D's are immigrant students. They are worried that Americans are not pursuing these degrees, but in the short term they want immigrants. I understand the low skill angle on this, but just explaining their approval of what Clinton said.

Hillary is a fool. I have no dog in this fight personally (I'm a Brit), but I work in tech, and many of my old mates used to like Hillary-- now, they HATE her with an indescribable fervour. Even Democrats among them are hitting her hard over her support of outsourcing and H1B's. This is one of those single issues that is killing Hillary's campaign, people will not vote for her because of this stand alone.
