i only know Jerry from D'Angelo's Live at Jazz Cafe and his pocket is so deep that i couldn't even imagine he could do all these fast and technical stuff (this is the best lesson ever: only play what the music needs)
Ya Everyone always check you battery they usually only last for 50 hours of playing, and anyways always rent to product you want to buy first. Because music stores have a way of making a crappy thing sound awesome ( not saying Hydrives are crap they are one of my favs)
I have the same exact problem with my HA5500/VX810 set up, with it getting distorted in the lower end. But I used it at a gig and about an hour later into the gig my amp got ridiculously distorted all over, lows, mids, and highs. And I only had it for not even a whole year yet. And I only play it at 1-4 on the volume and about 6-7 on the compression.
I know Jerry personally and this demo doesn't even come close to showing the depth of his skill. He used to stop by my gig several years back, and sit in, and I also had the unenviable task of having to cover some of his parts on a gig 3 years ago. Talk about pressure.... Add to the fact that he HAS to be one of the nicest and most humble cats on the planet.

actualy I do, I bought one yesterday and I'm noticing an odd distored sound whenever I play the E string, it really bugs me I'm looking more into it

My 9 volts we're dying haha, I guess as it lost more and more juice it got more distorted.
Try changing your batteries haha.
After you try it out tell me what happened yeah??
