Not the overture but the end, Nos. 10 & 11 in the score (latter starts at 2:24). "Hérodiade" (1944) is based on a dramatic fragment by the poet Mallarmé, a classical dialogue between the title character and her Nurse. Hindemith actually “set” the text, syllable for syllable, in the instrumental lines, a true tour de force. The ballet was composed for Martha Graham, and though it wasn't a close collaboration - Hindemith never actually saw the choreography - both of them produced remarkable work.

dear mr. Rodriguez...I'm the piano player of this video....as surely you know,performers play like conductors tell them to play.....and if you don't know this,,I'm telling you now.....a good example how to speak without knowing how to perform.....

@Mozart61 I make these comments because I know the music and have the orchestral score and have played many of the parts on the guitar. There are very poor recordings of this piece and I am always in search of good ones. I do have one already. Thanks for your response.

@nauJRodriguez :no trace of rage or "vegeance" vs. your comment from me......i told you only the truth:this is really a wonderful piece,but very hard to play at piano,specially in some fast passages in the middle section.....director really told me to play less softly that B hit,and I simply did it.

@Mozart61 It is also the performers obligation to know the score, although this one may not be readily available. Hindemith's music is not easy! I have more respect for players like yourself than I do for conductors.

This is a great piece. One of the greatest pieces of music ever written. In the last few measures the piano has one tone to hit, a B. This is to be played softly and as the music shows, shorter at the end. It constitutes the tritone when combined with the root of the chord. A good example of performers and conductors not understanding music.

@nauJRodriguez It is not your fault. Yes it is the conductors responsibility. And it is a matter of understanding WHY it is to be played softly. Hindemiths music is often hard to play.
