  • Amazing music that demonstrates how awesome can be the cultural mixtures. Breaking borders helping to break mental limits. And creation it's about that.

Thank you very much for posting it!

  • @YTzHK Your very welcome and, by the way, nicely said!

  • wild

  • Fabulous.

    Without innovation, there is stagnation

  • amazing end!

  • @desariofan :-)

  • the music is at peace with the final harmonic.

  • This was Super Amazing and Super Awesome! ^_^

  • Absolute genius :D

  • The shouting adds another dimension to the music. The sololist is not just playing the instrument but also playing the part.

  • The shouting adds another dimension to the music.

  • @bsaxagent also, shouting in a piece is nothing new; Bernstein did it as well. Look at Slava and his Concerto for Orchestra.

  • Tan Dun seems to be enjoying conducting this piece.

Just as much as I enjoyed listening to it.

  • Oh my goodness~~ this song is lot of fun ^_^ i love it so much~~ especially the " Yeo " !! XD everyone is enjoy the fun of this piece

  • the whole piece is incredible, but the lead in at 4:50 followed by the chord that comes in after the vocalized "yao" is achingly beautiful.

  • All in all, I think the soloist is awesome. But I felt sad for her because Tan Dun made her kneel on a cushion to play for the entire concerto.

    I wonder why.

  • @aqvaice

thats the way you play the Zheng. traditionally

  • @aqvaice Please don't feel sorry for her. This is how the traditional way of playing some of the Chinese traditional instruments so is the Japanese.

  • The energy that one experiences with this Concerto is great. See the hall at the end, when the applause comes? It looks there are quite a few empty seats. It should be packed!

  • I think its inventive, improvisational and sensational. Who gives a damn what Mr. 309058659 says. Its definately not your classical piece but its also not a European piece or American style of music. Culturally if you don't understand the style then theres no point in commenting.

  • That's what I want to hear! At last someone who got it.

  • Of course! Tan Dun is a composition GENIUS!

  • And now just everybody else has to catch on!

  • @LODragonJoe There is heavy european and american influence, just as their is chinese and tibetan. I dont think you can even hope to try to say this is one region's style of music; Its Tan Dun's. He definately doesn't write strictly chinese traditional music though, he mixes his humble chinese upbringings with his Glass and Cage influence when studying in America, with european style string orchestra. Theres always a point in commenting if you have something to say, even if I or you don't likeIt

  • Why shouldn't an interesting piece as this be performed? Just because the musicians don't play in a "classical" way?

  • What does yelling yao have to do anything with being a talented musician? When you're a professional you use much more than an instrument in your hands. I guarentee you that the most prestigious musicians have made some sort of vocal contribution to a performance several times over. The whole "expressionlessly 'prik' musician" as you seem to be describing really is just a stereotype. As it may be, thats your opinion as lacking of knowledge as it may be.

  • LOL! Are you kidding? The 'YAO!'s were the best part! lol

  • @309058659 You...just suck man. Go listen to some Liszt or something.

  • I am so sorry you missed the beauty of this piece. Would you also have shouted down Stravinsky? Or derided Dvorak for his inclusion of folkloric themes.

  • @pete1729 This is an comtemporary music...

  • @309058659 OH EM GEE IT'S DISSONANT DDDD:
