ordered this card 'cause my 9600 gt is dying ....will I notice any performance increase?.I got this card mainly to replace 9600 gt and I'm not expecting anything better.
It won't be a night and day difference, but performance should be better. Just make sure you uninstall your Nvidia drivers and get the latest Catalyst drivers. Then run CCleaner (free download, Google it) and a disk defrag program like Auslogics disk defrag (also free download).
You wont get a huge boost from 8800GT to 4770. I think its not even worth it, If you want a boost from 8800GT buy a 4890 or 260. Or wait untill they launch newer cards.
I'm not sure if the cooler would be compatible, but I don't see the jump from an 8800GT-->4770 as being big enough to justify the upgrade. My advice is to either step up to a 4890 or wait for DX11 cards later this year.
I just checked out the benchmarks for crossfire 4770 and in most games they perform pretty excellent. They beat single 4890 and GTX285 in most games, costing around $240 and $300 respectively when a single 4770 costs only $100. Only problem is the 512mb GDDR5 which will be corrected when XFX introduce their 1gb 4770 soon.
A 4770 isn't really designed to play at higher resolutions (1680X1050 seems to be its sweet spot), but I've installed one in my brother's PC which is connected to a 1920X1200 monitor. Even though it's a little RAM starved with only 512MB, it's managed to run Far Cry 2, Fallout 3, Team Fortress 2, and Unreal Tournament 3 beautifully on max settings.
I've read that the 4770 idle power is 28w, probably b/c of DDR5 memory. The 4670 is ridiculous at 3-4w. I play old games like SimCity 4 and really invest/hold onto my systems. Over the long term what is best bang for the buck?
I know the 4770 kills ratio wise on load, but is the 4670 better suited to my casual gaming and will cost me less in the long run with low idle power. I do enjoy reducing my carbon footprint.
It seems as if you've answered your own question. On average, you can expect the 4770 to perform 60-70% faster than the 4670 making it clearly the better value if you're after performance. But if you value a quiet GPU with low idle power draw and don't play many modern games, then the 4670 seems like the better pick.
Oh, and by the way, I highly recommend getting the HIS IceQ version of the 4670 even if it costs you an extra $10 or so. Just make sure you have two PCIE slots available on your motherboard.
Thx much, that is a kick ass version! Quiet is a priority. I doubt I'd ever "splurge" on a CrossFire setup... anyway my MB is the P5QL Pro, 1 PCIe x16 slot, then 2 more PCIe x1 slots; so no luck there I guess.
If you mean an extra slot for cooling, yup no prob, new system with lots of room.
ok this is really low but ok can i run this card with a 250w psu ok i know its not a lot but i have e5200 intel pentium @ 2.5ghz stock 1 fan cpu cooling fan 6gb ddr2 800 stock vista 64 home premium 500gb harddrive standard not in raid 0 or anything and finally i have an ipibl asus motherboard
I have a Gigabyte GeForce 9800GT 512MB/256bit/DDR3 and I'm not ABSOLUTELY happy with it. Would you recommend getting a XFX, or MSI, or Sapphire 4770 512MB/128bit/GDDR5 to replace it? The price is okay for me, but will it increase performance from 9800GT? Also, I want to know what the difference is in DDR3 vs GDDR5, and 256 vs 128 bit which are respectfully in 9800GT and 4770.
I would recommend going with XFX if you can since they offer a double-lifetime warranty. The performance difference between a 4770 and 9800GT is not huge, so if you're looking at a more substantial upgrade I would go for a GTX 275 or ATI Radeon 4890. Alternatively, you could just get another 9800GT and do an SLI setup. As for RAM type and bus size, I wouldn't worry about it too much, just look at game benchmarks since that's all that matters in the end.
I would say if you have at least 350 watts you're probably okay. Just make sure that you have a 6-pin connector and you have the right slot in your motherboard.
Biostar 790GXB,amd 7750,4gb kingston pc800,and i want to buy this card,i have 400w power supply,is that enough for this card?i have on PSU 6pin connector,or i need more power?:/
I've read a test about this thing. It's about 5-10% slower than the 4850 but it costs about 30 Bucks less as well. However the 9800GT can't even touch the results of the 4770
the link in ur description is talking about the 4750 not 4770 ... so if u did this video talking about the benchies in that link so u have bad luck ... :)
Yes, that is true that a 4750 will also be made available. What I meant to say was that the "4750" which I linked to is in reality an underclocked 4770. A 4750 will use GDDR3 memory instead of GDDR5.
daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn!...............this should be a lil faster than the 4850 cuz the benches are set at 650 mhz...and internatl beta drivers!...so at 99 bucks..those 4850 users are gonna wish they waited....lol i was going to order 2 4830s but now i'm gonna wait the 2 weeks to go for 2 of these...cuz i kinda hav a cheap ass psu so this would kill it
I don't think ATI has anything planned for the near future. Nvidia will probably just slash the prices of their 9800GT and GTS 250 to remain competitive. I don't think we'll be seeing any more new high-end cards for a few months, so your best bet is to just wait a few more weeks for price cuts.
*CORRECTION*: Apparently, the 4770 will require an external power connection (I'm guessing 6-pin). PCI-E slots can deliver up to 75W, but the 4770 requires 80.
Thx for making this vidio

Hi, I have the GeForce 8800 GT (110W) and want to replace it with the Radeon 4770 (80W).
It is said to outperform the 8800 while staying much cooler.
If that's true, that's be awesome.
Do you think the 3rd party VGA cooler "Zalman VF900-Cu" might fit ?

Hi, it's not really about better performance for me, but a cool(er) running system.
It's 40 nm vs 65 nm.
It's 80W vs 110 W.
It's rank 18 = 4770 vs rank 26 = 8800 GT on the list of best graphics cards.
But then again, I change my mind almost daily of what hardware to buy next.
It's not easy having a computer as your hobby number 1.
Look at the SSDs ... I feel so desperate to get one but looking at the prices makes me faint immediately :o)

lederti 2 years ago
Its not necessarily about the watts, instead what is important is the 12 volt rails on the power supply.
Make sure you have a combined of atleast 22-25 amps in total.
eg 12v1 = 14A, 12v2 =14A = 28 amps.
You can find the amount of amps [12v rails] on the power supply. There should be a sticker.

Actually, I was wrong in the video. The 4770 needs 80w of power at load, which is 5w more than what a PCI-E slot can deliver.
