I just feel like cadenzas are traditionally the opportunity for the soloist to showcase their virtuosity, a moment within the piece where they say "listen to ME now." That's not to say that it would be appropriate to go TOO far afield, but I just think the cadenza is the time where it should sound unique to whoever is playing.
I agree with you EXCEPT that I think it is always possible to show your virtuosity within the confines of what is characteristic of the composer. If you listen to Wyntons candenza or Phil's, it sounds just like somthing Haydn would have wrote, yet it also shows what they can do.
yes. Good begining. Nice and strong, maybe a little speedy but ok. Nice trumpet! Strings good on crescendos, horns very good sound and well balanced. NICE SOUND. VERY GOOD OVER ALL.
Maurice Andre probably couldn't play it like this before his 15th birthday, and something tells me that nobody who writes comments on youtube videos could play it half this well either. (Definitely includes myself)
He seems like the kind of player that dosnt join an orchestra or anything like that. with his skills, touring as a soloist seems like it'd be perfect for him. i wish i could play half as well as he could!
Wow... again a slik move. Trilling the first valve with the middle finger. I have to try this myself since i've seen people younger as me doing it .... I'm so jalous.
Awesome job guy! I remember playing this song when I was about your age, a couple years older maybe? Your cadenza was much better than mine. :) You gave me goosebumps! That is a true musician!

Ugh I hate the cadenza. Horrible choice for Haydn. Doesn't sound like Haydn at all. Sounds like Guiliano!
gestrumpet 2 years ago
That's what cadenzas are for.
killface962 2 years ago
I disagree. I think it should sound like the composer wrote it.

I honestly think Maurice most likely played this well or better at that this age.. just one man's opinion.. no need to get hostile.

Why did you move your hand position for the A/B trill at the end of the exposition?
jsteuernol 3 years ago
Because my middle finger is stronger than the index finger ;)
giulisommer 3 years ago
Fair enough. I find that since I've played for just as long as trumpet, my index, middle, and ring fingers are equally strong for executing trills.
