Just read your comment. You're right...there IS no right or wrong...just differences!Hey, look I use a pick from time to time...not usually in the funk or groove context...that's jus' me. To all the others who have replied to my comment, yes.. I've seen his vids with him playin' barehanded...he's fuckin' good. I'm just offering an opinion.Bein' the smartass that I am, I like to spark up a little debate...it opens up a forum to exchange ideas and insights...does it not? Keep groovin'
Alitt insecure...aren't we? Alittle critisism never hurt anyone. Those who can take it are the ones who can advance themselves. Those who don't,stay at the same level.I'm not saying that you suck...you don't.I just don't agree with using a pick for funky grooves. You can get plenty of muted ghost notes bare handed...think Jaco Pastorious,or,Rocco Prestia. When I start putting up clips on you tube, then you can tell me how much I suck...or not.Till then keep it up.
shantypiker, open your mind brutha. Nothing wrong with using a pick on a bass if done right. He doesnt sound anything like a frustrated guitarist to me :)
If it SOUNDS good it IS good. Never heard that one before? DK always sounds tight as hell and he's got a tone to match. A pick gets a sharper attack than you can generally get with fingers so it does have its uses on bass. There's no right or wrong in music piker, just opinion...

A PICK? I'm sorry, man but real bassists don't use picks. What are you? A frustrated guitarist. your note choises are fine ,but your attack isn't. PLAY THAT THING LIKE A MAN!!!
@shantypiker41367 I'm sorry, I wasn't aware that someone had dictated absolute rules as to how one plays their instrument. Real bassists (and any real musician for that matter) play their goddamn instrument any way they please, so long as they get their job done.
Spoken like a true ignoramus. A good musician becomes familiar with as many ways to play his/her instrument as possible. My guess is you've never picked up a bass guitar in your life. I'm also guessing that you've heard someone say that playing with a pick isn't cool and thought it would be bad ass to regurgitate that dumb shit, retarded comment. Honestly, you shouldn't even listen to music with comments like that. Cheers, asshole, from a bass player that uses a pick and fingers.
@shantypiker41367 It's called groove and timing bud, something you not really have XD sorry i dont wanna be a dick because i just love MarloweDK's playing but you just don't play good not because it isn't my taste but your techniques even i can do better and that says a lot
@shantypiker41367 just wanna say, pick bass is a technique. its not wrong to play bass with a pick. some guitarists like finger picking on their guitars, doesnt mean they arnt real guitarists. Its just technique. personally i prefer pick bass because i like the sound of it. but i do like the occasional finger bass. doesnt matter what technique ya use, as long as its comfortable for ya
Marlowe, I have to thank you, whenever I'm feeling confident in my bass playing I just have to tune into one of your videos and I suddenly lose all my self esteem.
I reallyreallyreally dig the tutorials and the jams...tyvm. The timing of your lessons couldn't be better for me. And I will pay when this service becomes product. Excellent stuff. Oh yeah.
haha, nice job! so question, what scales do you use the most, or is it just according to the style and etc. ? i am just curious and you've got me into jamming more!!
for some Keziah Jones discovery, try'n'watch on youtubedotsomslash watch?v=yodD39mlGBI or watch?v=DS71HIhMXwQ or watch?v=BLd7QAEcvnU&mode=related&search= ...great stuff ;o)
Again great groove. Just realized though, you have all these basses and not a single Warwick. Not, that you have to have one, but you seem to have a penchant for collecting basses why not get one? I'd love to hear one of your grooves with that classic warwick growl. I was hoping to get a Thumb BO 6 myself.
yes Warwicks, I've got 2 myself - a fretless corvette and a bolt-on thumb5: great instruments, but I always put them down for months after playing them for an hour or so. Perhaps they do have a too idiosyncratic tone, like a spice you like to have in your food once in a while but not every day... But I'm sure Marl' has his own idea about this, as well as about Statuses, ESPs and other hi-tech animals... haven't you Marl' ?
I was first struck at a Keziah Jones gig back in 93 or so, his bass player Phil "Soul" Sewell was playing a Warwick (a Fortress I think), and I really dug his amazing melodic sense & funkiness, and the specific slick tone of his Warwick. Since then, unfortunately Soul went off and was replaced by very capable but (me think) less subtle & tasty bassists. I guess you should try a Warwick one day or another at your fav guitar shop, but avoid the cheap series not as good as the real ones :o)

Hej Thomas.
Superfedt site du har kreeret her.
Jon, Odense.
