@mybeautifulbailey Because Carrie is a country girl ... and in America being a country singer is very much being in sync with this conservative american family very judgemental mentality of all that is wrong or imoral bla bla bla and americans "love" that hypocrisy. No wonder Carrie has sold millions of records just in the US due to the strong popularity of country music ... Katharine regardless all of her talent ... is seen as vulgar pop singer like so many others. Sad but that's true ...

@Fabian81 Being pop is no way in hinderance to becoming a star and connecting to the public. Look at Kelly Clarkson. Pop music is way more popular and mainstream than country music will ever be so Carrie being a country singer actually was a disadvantage she had as opposed to a pop singer. Yet, she's taken the music industry by a storm racking up millions and millions of albums sold. Look at Kellie Pickler, she sings country music as well, well, where are her millions?

@countrymusicCC The pop music world is historically less loyal than the country crowd. It's not easy for a country artist to also be a pop artist, but it's a lot easier for a country artist to be a successful country artist than it is for a purely pop artist, with no niche to fall back on, to be a successful pop artist.

@nothlithawk777 pop fans may be less loyal to the artist than that of country fans but country artists need to build up a fan base just like any artist. building up a fan base and being successful in the genre is just a difficult, if not more difficult than becoming a pop artist as country fans are quite particular. Being a country artist does not make it easier at all. There has been quite a few country artists on AI, where are they now? Maybe Scotty can make it but that's about it.

@countrymusicCC I believe a girl named CARRIE UNDERWOOD " MADE IT"...BUT otherwise I agree. Katharine McPHEE is one of the best ever on AI,although she wasn't as good then as she is now. I think she actually sings better as a brunette ... maybe it's the confidence level...

@mybeautifulbailey Look for Katharine to get "bigger" very soon. She is starring in NBC's highly anticipated tv musical, SMASH, beginning Februrary 2012 after "The Voice" ! She has also signed a new record deal with Columbia Records and is gathering/writing material for a new album!

One of the biggest mistakes America has made on American Idol, imagine where she would be right now had she won, it's taking too long for her to reach stardom. Then again it doesn't help when her competition is Leona Lewis and Carrie Underwood.

I think in certain way the singles of her first album opened her the way on music industry. I know that some people think that they were a bunch of crap(e.g.Love story) but they were catchy and even though I prefer tha current Katharine , I think all those singles were necessary because we have to accept that america doesn't have exactly a good taste in music, and to become a masive artist she needed all that last production.

Katharine is amazing, I admire her entire work.

Had it All did better than anything on the first album. The new album opened at #27 but should move up. Hopefuly 'Home'

her voice sounds amazing but its hard to watch her & listen to her at the same time. I dont see any emotional connection to her songs or perhaps her voice is so good it appears effortless, still I like her now better than when she was on Idol.

Every time I read one of those "no emotional connection" comments I wonder if we're listening to the same performance. I think she's best on songs she DOES feel her own emotional connection with, like this one, Me, and Mary Jane for instance. When she feels it, she makes us feel it. Well, me anyway.

Im not speaking against her by any means, shes out there doing her thing, more power to her. I just wasnt connected to her on Idol so I was surprised to have become a fan late in the game. Like I said, shes doing things big, & good for her.
